We have to replace the coils and plugs on this Ford Fusion with a 3 liter engine. Removal of the upper intake manifold is mandatory for this service , but don’t worry! It’s not that bad and I’ll walk you through it!

It really helps to know how much time it took for this procedure , no one ever seems to tell you that. Most of these types of vids are edited so you dont know

Thank you for the exact description, I love my Fusion, but this is so arduous for the DIY type. Miss my 72 8 cylinder Skylark, But for todays technology, this is why a good mechanic is expensive a great one is priceless.

So my GF car needs plugs and coils so how many hours is this job allotted for in a shop?

Wats the cylinder firing order ?

How much would you charge for that job?

Nice video! I've seen others where they do not completely remove the manifold, but my EGR valve was completely clogged with dirt! I would not have seen this if I did not remove the manifold completely.

I knew the front spark plugs were going to be easy. It's the rear that is going to be a pain in the ass. I am just surprised you can't just take the whole top off in one piece instead of several pieces. That would take some time off your hands.

Is it different on a hybrid?
@doylesautomotiveservicellc54214 жыл бұрын
Robert Greenhouse hey Robert . Yes it is very different on a hybrid as they have four cylinder engines. Fortunately the spark plug replacement on those is much easier !

Take off the manifold for the spark plugs? Why?
@JosePerez-tl4sw3 жыл бұрын
Ok ford is weird for that lol

Ford GM Nissan Toyota. Most 6 cylinder front wheel drive cars are designed this way. Honda’s are one of the few that don’t require the plenum to be removed.

Too bad he didn’t answer the question... it would be nice to know a ball park round about price.

@@wait4karma I had this done to my Fusion 2 years ago and it cost me around $900. It will depend on where you live though and who does it.
@goldwolf06063 жыл бұрын
Erik Scherer $900 bucks?!? Fuck that man... you got hustled.... this shit is easy as hell. It’s not like rebuilding an automatic transmission... spark plugs are like $2 a pop, $12 total. Coils are $12 a pop of busted. Valve gasket is like $25. About $50 to do this job properly. This fool put it back together without replacing the leaking gasket because he’s crooked. The owner of this car will have to pay the labor again to replace the valve gasket now.
@reesemoerike79233 жыл бұрын
@@goldwolf0606 do you mean the intake plenum gasket?
@goldwolf06063 жыл бұрын
@@reesemoerike7923 no, valve cover gasket. Plenum gaskets are about a quarter each. See for yourself. Rockauto.com
@goldwolf06063 жыл бұрын
Why didn’t you just replace the valve gaskets now? You know it’s bad. Crooked mechanics... now the dude has to pay for the labor again.
@3sonsauto3672 жыл бұрын
Intake manifold gasket yea maybe. The 2 valve covers haven’t even been removed yet. It’s up to the customer If they want to pay the additional parts and LABOR. Most do not want to pay anything extra. It would still be an extra $160-$300 parts and labor on top of the spark plugs change.

I just changed the spark plugs in mine at 145,000 miles and the rear valve cover isn’t leaking yet. The oil pan gasket on the other hand…
