In South Africa. We have Ranger raptors, Stomtrak, thunder, wildtrak, and FX4 rangers. I actually prefer Wildtrak. We also have 2 litre SiT (single turbo) and BiT ( bi turbo) diesel, 2.2 single turbo diesel, 3.2 single turbo. In either 6 speed manual or auto but recently they have 10 speed auto. No petrol engines. They all are bulletproof. New spec ranger is here in South Africa. 😍 It's so beautiful. U should see one, Wildtrak V6 PETROL. 3 litre V6 petrol is a good motor from Land rover and it's actually a Ford motor. The new spec ranger is a bit wider and taller than the current spec ranger. Also at my work, there's a Van that I am using for the company is a 2022 Ford Transit Custom 2.2 6 speed manual LWB, technically the same motor as in ranger but it's front wheel drive. Also managed 7.3 litres per 100 kilometres. The car I own is Ford Sapphire GLX with 3.4 V6, it's European spec with a South African Motor. That UK doesn't buy brand new sapphire with it. They have 2.8 or 2.9i V6 German motors. Same thing with cosworth. South African guys can't buy one so they have to import one from UK. It's called Sierra Sapphire Cosworth. Beautiful car with 2 litre turbo petrol. U can have a look at my channel about my sapphire. Have a awesome day. 😎

That is correct the majority of the development on the PX Rangers and now the New Ranger is carried out in Australia and largest development location is Melbourne. Also the testing of the Rangers off road for the Raptors is carried out at Loveday Park and I think near Alice Springs as a second venue. There were other countries with input but mostly it is an Australian project.

The Australian specs are similar to the international with a few changes. Our FX4 is a bit higher spec and has upgraded Fox suspension more designed for offroad, bit better interior and some other niceties. Our Wildtrak is similar but also a bit higher spec with electric roller cover factory fitted that can be controlled by remote and buttons on the dash and in the rear. Our Wildtrak is also a slightly higher spec inside with a different cluster and heated seats. Our drive trains are either the biturbo 2.0 with 10speed or the 3.2 with a 6 speed auto or manual. We also have a Raptor edition which is the top of the range. It looks significantly different with tow hooks on front and rear and a wider body as well as unique side steps and tray mount roll bar. It has a widened track, increased suspension travel, longer front control arms (alloy), coil rear suspension, braced chassis and Fox suspension all around but a greatly reduced payload and only come with the Biturbo. It also comes STD with different wheels with BF Goodrich AT tyres. I may miss one but the trims go XL, XLT, FX4, FX4 Max, Wildtrak, Wildtrak Max and Raptor. Only our base model comes with the small stereo. Recently we got a new Ranger which replaced these featured which look more like a F150 and are substantially different inside and out. New drive trains start with the Biturbo and then a V6 Diesel. The Raptor finally comes with an engine that suits its target market which is a turbo V6 petrol making around 400hp.

In Australia, the 2.0 litre diesel motor has more power (than the Euro spec described above) - 157kw (218Hp) and also has more torque - 500Nm. There are no manuals with the 2 litre motor bi-turbo. There was a 2.2 litre single turbo motor, which was for lower grades and there was a 3.2 litre, five cylinder diesel ( 147kw and 470Nm) with manual or auto. That has been discontinued, with the Next Gen Rangers in Australia offering the 2.0 litre diesel, slightly less power at 154kw but the same torque. However, there is a 186kw diesel with 600Nm and the Raptor with a 3.0 litre petrol motor with twin turbos producing 292kw and 583Nm of torque. I've only heard of the "80,000km" problem with the 3.2 litre motor. Also the last of the Ranger Wildtraks before the NextGen had a powered shutter. There have been some issues reported, but I've never had a problem with mine and Ford have given me 2 x cans of spray for the guides

@@killertofu - good call. The cost for diesel makes it a break even at best. The diesel won’t have a much better torque band than the 2.3 EcoBoost and no where near the range that the torque band carries as well. Pulling a trailer at 70+ mph (I don’t do that personally) will show the diesel’s weaknesses, hp and RPMs. The diesel might be nice rock crawling, but the 6 speed won’t be,,, 😂. There’s a stigma that you must have the diesel to be cool and must have the manual. There’s a reason the manual isn’t offered,,,,, no one buys it!!! Not enough to make it financially viable. 😂 The GM Colorado/Canyon twins have the diesel available, but they don’t sell well. 2022 is the last year for them,,,,. People I know who had them all complained about the lack of performance and the cost of diesel. It’s a small market in North America & even with only one brand, basically, offering a diesel, there’s still not enough demand to warrant continuing with it. You want a small, but well matched diesel, get a Chevy 1500,,,,, want real power,,,, get a HD truck with the big diesels. That’s where you will find real benefit.

Steel bumpers come in handy for low-speed crashes. My old Ranger was rear ended about 10mph at a red light. I felt the hit but was more like a push. My Ranger received a tiny ding the size of a nickel in the rear bumper. The front of the car that hit my truck was demolished, with the front clip and radiator pushed into the engine.

I go hit from behind on the interstate by a Scion xb. The traffic slowed due to construction and this guy nailed me at about 65 mph (I was doing about 35 mph). He scratched the paint on my class 5 hitch receiver (Ram 2500) and didn't hurt the bumper at all. I saw it coming and had nowhere to go.

Africa, Asia, Europe, Australian Rangers made in Thailand. Lived there for 20 years. This body style came out in 2012 with a 5 cylinder 3.2 turbo diesel and a 2.2 turbo diesel. 6 speed automatic engines. 2.0 liter twin turbo diesel came out later for the Everest (ranger based SUV) and was in the ranger raptor that came out in 2018/2019. Ranger raptor is much different than the reacher as it basically just shares the cab and a few other things. Driven on and they are beyond amazing but is twice the price of a 4 door automatic 2nd ranger with the 2.2 turbo diesel. Mine was a 2017 XLT 4dr 2wd with the 2.2 turbo diesel. Turbo was a large Garret unit and the truck made excellent power and more torque than I needed and got 38mpg. Very robust and it’s payload was 2500lbs and I did load it with nearly that with a large roll of CV electrical cable (2360 lbs) in Bangkok and drove it 270 miles to a job site. Only thing I noticed on that drive is I had to increase my stopping distance considerably of course. I owned the truck for 5 years and just sold it last June as I relocated back to Canada. It had about 90,000 miles on it. Would own another in a heartbeat. The 3.2 inline 5 had way more torque than my 2.2 but the 2.2 was very quick and excellent. I had a neighbor in the Thai army who had over a million kms on his (621k miles) he replaced the injectors and turbo at about 400k miles. We need these trucks here. And sadly my truck out the door was only $23k USD back in 2017!

There are also a lot of weird differences. The global Ranger only has multi pack leaf springs (multi-link with coils on Raptor) whereas only the Tremor has a multi-pack leaf in the US. The rest have what can only be described as a giant steel boomerang with a glass filled polymer overload that has a spring rate far exceeding the stock shocks. The door stampings are also different, where the global Ranger has slightly convex doors with a swoosh, the NA spec have concave door sections that close with a rather tinny sound. The NA Ranger also has two power dome sections on the all aluminum hood that gets a bit flippity floppity in heavy wind. The NA Ranger doesn't have a vanity engine cover, except only on the Lariat models. The NA Ranger doesn't have a torsion bar on the tailgate, but the tailgate is aluminum and stupidly light to the point that if anyone complains about the lack of dampening, they are a massive dork. The afore mentioned strut and shock dampening on all but the Tremor was tuned by the Cadillac Eldorado fan club on NA Rangers, boating more than driving. Because the global Ranger doesn't have the 2.3l Ecoboost, and wasn't designed from concept to finished product in less than a year, they don't have to deal with the most awful, ramshackle location for an oil filter on a modern automobile. The NA variant not only has the worst location for an oil filter, but two different drain tray funnels, where the second one is there just to make sure you put the oil pan in the wrong location when removing said oil filter. As you can see, there are multiple differences, for sure.

To add. I think there may be misunderstanding with US and Imperial gallons. 21mpg from the US Ranger would be just over 25mpg Imperial. And 30mpg Imperial is about 24.9mpg US. So the diesel is not all that much better. And in the mountains in Colorado I suspect it would be terrible. There also aren't many engine choices. The older 5 cylinder was replaced with the 2.0 litre. Some markets only got the Bi-turbo, which is slow. 11 sec 0-60mph slow. The single turbo one is probably more like 15 sec 0-60mph. As for the payload. It is an EU requirement to be classed as a commercial vehicle (which gives tax benefits). The vehicle must have a minimum of a 1000kg payload ability. So most pickups and vans have this over here. There is no technical reason why the US version can't carry the same, it is pure marketing from Ford to separate it from the larger trucks. I believe there are lots of other changes, mostly down to the structure, crash impact zones and possibly the fuel tank area. I recall reading parts of the chassis structure are different to cater for the different crash regs in the USA.
