Dear Paul, l found you in the early hours of the morning; l couldn't sleep and had been feeling guilty about my lovely box of oil paints, languishing on a shelf, an unopened gift. Well, you've changed all that! Your gentle advice presented so cleverly and beautifully made me want to cry. Tomorrow l will ransack the house for sponges and fill a blank canvas with a beautiful painting, as you have showed us. Thank you Paul for giving us all so much inspiration and guidance. Love and best wishes, Sheila x❤

@@sheilaclarke3692 Hi Sheila - I'm bowled over by your message. I'm so delighted to hear those paints are going to be unleashed. Painting ( creativity in general ) is a very emotional topic. From highs and lows - often separated by a few brush strokes! Well at least where I'm concerned. So have a ton of fun what ever you do. Then make a nice cuppa tea and have a cookie and admire your work. - Happy painting - Paul 🥰🥰🥰🥰😎😎

Hi Jane - I feel your loss, its touched our lives recently too. I use my art as a way free my mind and deal with the situation. So, I fully appreciate how this might be good for you too. I absolutely love painting flowers - almost as much as wildlife, landscapes, seascapes .... did I miss anything. You can tell I'm a painting nut. Don't worry about being anything other than someone taking every day as it comes. In time things will change as they must. Sending you good wishes and a big art hug. Now find someone and pass that on. - Paul 😉😉🤔🤔🤗🤗😘😘

Well youv'e taken the first step on that path. Just saying 'Hi' and lets paint together is a perfect start. Have you got a kitchen timer? If you dont - get one! If you have set it for 30 mins and start the underpainting process in the tutorial. It needs to be completed in 30 mins. Everything! No cheating. Then leave it to dry (oils or acrylics is OK) Then a few days later - you didn't fiddle with it did you - set you timer for 30 mins and paint the bulk of the background. Then walk away for a few days - Then in the last 30 mins finish the painting and call it done. This is a serious exercise in self control and I'll be making a video on this next week. - Best wishes - Paul

Your sense of value and texture here is superb. There’s some photorealism happening here, not unlike some of Estes work. Whether you did this intentionally or not, doesn’t really matter. It’s a gorgeous piece of art.

Wow, Richard Estes work is on another level. His city scapes and urban photorealistic style is mind blowing. I'd like to say yes I I'm a follower of his style. But truth be told I just got lucky ... maybe? 🤔Paul 😃😎

Suddenly my paintings improved and looked less muddy and over worked. Yes, there were lots of happy accidents. But in hind sight no more than before. The bonus was I had many more paintings that worked well and looked so much better. Hope to see you for more tutorials - new videos every Sunday 6.00pm UK time - Paul 😃😃😎😎

Hello Uli - I just commented on another message about my own creative block. Its an internal struggle and can stop us completely if we let it. So I try and stay one step ahead. I look for a simple scene I can paint without stress. These are sometimes the best we'll ever paint ... until the next one that makes our heart sing! Have a lovely week - Paul 🥰😎

Thank you. Great instruction. I try to paint every day and limit myself to a 30 minute “warm-up”. If I like the results, I’ll invest additional 30 min. Intervals, standing back frequently. Love the fact your underpainting is all about defining shapes, not detail.

Hi Margaret - you follow some amazing artists already ( Kevin Hill, Chuck Black etc ) so great choices. I kept the detailing on this scene to a minimum. I wanted to show how little we need to do to paint a scene. One the underpainting was roughed in the rest was so quick and the potential for stress and mud mixing reduced. Try blocking in for 30 mins and leaving it to dry ( use acrylics if you have them ). Then add the least amount of over painting. Choose a simple scene like I did. You'll be amazed at how far your blocking in will have taken you to a finished painting - Paul 😃😍😎

Hi Darlene - I too suffered at the hands of teachers who's sole aim was to frighten the living daylights out of the kids in the class. I was at school in the 60's when there was a shortage of teachers but plenty of ex army instructors looking to retrain. Now, some were truely amazing and became some of my best teachers. But a handful had challenges. One comment that stuck in my head was - don't let someone elses opinion become your reality - I fought aginst those that said you couldn't. So you pick up that brush and paints and have fun. No matter what you paint. Its your world as Bob would say. Happy Painting - Paul 😃🥰😎

Hi Paul! This tutorial was very encouraging for me, thank you! I had been on a creative roll but last painting was just super annoying. Baby wipe city. I thought, is it worth it for me to over think everything? I just couldn’t get it right…my youngest daughter told me to keep on and I did. Wow was it pretty, once I relaxed and not worried about it being just so! Thanks Paul! I love your videos!! Have a beautiful week, your countryside video is so lovely. 😊 🤗😃

Hello Stephanie - I have had so many of these experiences I cannot tell you. I wish I has bought shares in baby wipes and kitchen towels - I'd be worth a mint! But these experiences are pure gold and will shape our future paintings. So the moral is - don't sweat the small stuff. Just paint a simple scene simply and let the imagination fill the gaps. Now lest see if I can do that again! Hold tight for the next tutorial - Have lovely week - Paul and the gang 🐱😹😻😃😍😎

That is what I do, stuff the bad ones behind the couch. I recently started getting them out, revisiting it and redoing them. You are a fantastic artist! I truly enjoy watching you paint ❤ I have trouble painting things like roads, I can't get them to look realistic
@PaulRansonArt
@PaulRansonArt 6 ай бұрын
Hi - yes, revisiting some old pantings can be very useful. If only to show how time and a little experience can help us improve a 'lost work of art' Roads and pathways ... all paved with disasters for the artist. I think a video is on the books for this subject. I'll add it to my 'to do' list. Happy painting - Paul 😃😃😎😎

Beautifully done! Thanks for making the steps so easy to follow, and also to let go of perfectionism. A tricky part for me is to avoid putting too much paint on my brush and creating blobs for highlights.
@PaulRansonArt
@PaulRansonArt 6 ай бұрын
Hi Diane - its a constant struggle not to overlead the brused. Its why I try and show a nice close up of my brush. If its working well then thats the shot I show. Take note of just how open and lacy it is. Thats when you know what to expect. So, if it looks completely glued together then you usually get what I call thumb print highlights. If this happens stop after the first blob. Dry clean your brush and scrape off the blob. Re darken if needed. And try again. I think I do this in a few of my paintings like this one - kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZqeQl3eFosuDa7c. At the end my last bushes are not great so see me fix them - Happy Painting Diane - 😃😎
