I noticed that too. Reminds me of when I was studying Judo, and a former Japanese Silver medalist came to Texas and gave a demonstration of various ways he could throw with a particular throw. He lined up the top ten or so players in Texas, and proceeded to go down the line in Randori (free sparing) and threw each player with the same throw within a few seconds... except for one guy, Bill who laid down flat on his back as soon as the match began. It would be like a Chess player saying "You're not going to beat me with the Pirc, because I'm going to resign before you move." Ramirez really makes Great videos.

Loved this one too. I appreciate your showing when things don't go according to plan and we make a mistake. Still, if we stay cool, then our good set up will help us recover and even win. After seeing your video I played a game and that is what happened. I made a mistake but because the setup principles had been followed i could recover and in the end game fight I was ahead 2 passed pawns and could convert. Getting through the opening with equality or slight advantage is really a saviour. Your videos help that a lot. So, again thank you Robert.

I really enjoyed the second game. I learned that players at that level are all-out attackers. I learned how to defend against a massive pawn storm by trading off the minor pieces and whittling down the pawns systematically. That was amazing! I loved how you had to scramble at the end, and even with the recognized blunders that you saw as you made them, you still pulled it off. Great chess! Thanks!

wow, only one game in so far but that first game was beautiful. I think you controlled every aspect of that game start to finish.. that defense just smothered your opponent and they ended up just shuffling around more than anything. Hey Robert, in the first game with the classical variation I've been tought to take on e4 whenever the white bishop develops early to c4. This is way you would end up with an early pawn attack forking knight and bishop in the center. In the game first game this would go like: 6: Bc4, Kxe4. 7: Kxe4, d5. 8: Bd3, d5xKe4... As far as I know this line equalizes quickly but I'm curious on your take. I haven't seen this line in any of your pirc-videos but I might have overlooked something. Thanks in advance, Anders

@@BamaRider Okay, let's talk about this ... First thing I would like to mention is that even though we learned that when they do e5 on move # 3, we trade pawns followed by Ng4, it is not the case here. On move # 7, it was more accurate to do Nd5 centralizing your knight and more importantly to not have it awkwardly placed on g4. Now, more important than that is the following. Since you are more advanced now and have more experience with this opening, you should know that after white does Bd2, we do not have to move our queen right away (even though I said so when we first talked about it) Instead, insert e5 right away and that prevents white from doing e5 themselves. If they do the discovered attack with Nd5, you simple do Qd8 and nothing happens. Please, let me know if this makes sense and feel free to share any other lines you are having trouble with. Always happy to help 💪

@@NMRobertRamirez Thanks Robert, I'll take the notes and practice. I'm currently low 1200s, my idea is compete with the unrated games vs 1300 players. The last time I entered the 1200 elo, I couldn't stay there, and was quickly back in the 11s after engaging the better competition for a few days. So until I can consistently win against 1300 players I see no point matching wits with 1300 players in competitive matches. I have to get better. Your simplification of this defense has helped me win more.

For me Its nice to see early d3 lines for white and middlegames ideas. Found the last game interesting because often players try to blast you off the board playing the Pirc and with me they often succeed. E.g after g6 some aggressive players play 4.h4 Bayonet attack i think. Never sure what to do here. Ignore it say Bg7 and h5 will come and Rook x knight is scary.

I have a question... trying to play this. I got the short and sweet pirc course on chessable which runs you through the main 4-5 replies. I have tried a bunch of games just to get a feel for it and I struggle to get past the fact that white gets a free attack. Invariably I get to the end of the opening and white has 2-3 pieces attacking and tons of space. Is there a twist on this opening where you meet black in the middle more? Or should I stick to e4 e5 and just try to learn the stuff.

Hello Coach, I had a question, is it possible to play the pirc starting with 1. e4 e5 and then u can play d6 and Nf3 and the remaining plan after e5? Is it possible to play that way, and if no, then what is the reason? Thanks alot, love your videos
@NMRobertRamirez
@NMRobertRamirez 2 жыл бұрын
Hello! The main problem with it is that you will be exposed to many different openings. For example, white can play 1.e4, e5 and then 2.f4 (king's gambit). So, you have to be prepared for that and many other lines they can play vs 1..., e5 👍

Great video! Do you have any tips or videos about getting passed anxiety before and during games? I struggle with it.
@NMRobertRamirez
@NMRobertRamirez 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Alvin for your feedback and for your support to the channel. It's greatly appreciated! When it comes to anxiety, I have had some students who struggled with it and I can tell you this: - It will get better as you improve and have more control over your games. Part of your anxiety might be related to not having a plan or the ability to calculate accurately enough. As you start building your opening repertoire, you will know what to do at the beginning of every game and you will also have some guidelines to follow once you transition into the middlegame. Likewise, once your visualization and calculation skills improve, you will become more effective at attacking and you will also be able to anticipate your opponent's initiatives. - It might also be lack of practice. As you play more (specially rapids and blitz) you will feel more comfortable. I do not recommend to only play blitz, but it is good to do it from time to time. Even if we play a one-hour game, we might get into time pressure and we have to know how to handle such situations. - Lastly, I always tell my students to be aware and ask themselves what is it that their opponent is threatening? Is it necessary to do something desperate such as sacrificing a piece? If the answer is no, then take the time to think of a plan and do not see ghosts. Many times, we make our opponents stronger than what they really are. **Bottom line is that as you train more, you will inevitably get stronger and getting stronger will boost your confidence. Then, before you know it, your anxiety is there only until the moment you shake hands to start the game and then it dissapears. Also, as you make mistakes and experience stressful situations, you will know yourself better. It is all part of the process. My hands still sweat a little before I play a tournament game and the moment I do the first move, it is gone. Hope this answers your question, Alvin! If not, let me know and we can talk more about it 👍

@@NMRobertRamirez Thank you very much for your response. I saw an immediate improvement when I started watching your videos just last week. I played a game today on chesscom using what I learned from your Pirc series and it is the first time since I have played that I did not have a blunder, mistake or inaccuracy with a 93% accuracy. This definitely helps a lot. Not having a set plan or strategy definitely puts me on edge and I am sure you are right about that. I am very glad I found your page. I will definitely be following all of your work and support in any way I can. You are doing great work, Thank you Sir

Not sure how so many points are awarded for each game. My games seem to be for about 8 points a pop so getting from 1500 to 2200 wouldn't happen in so few games. Not by a long shot. Explain, please?

@@NMRobertRamirez Hi Dr. Robert, kzbin.info/www/bejne/ipOcfWafdrqbmZI Thanks for being interactive. I guess starting new accounts frequently might help. I have learned a bit from you already. I just started with you, I've been watching Rosen. The Pirc doesn't have a winning % according to the computer but I am open to your wisdom. I've picked up a couple of things that have been useful. I will be grateful for the KZbin videos since it's not the time for me to be spending but I hope you have some students who pay you or your game is making some cash. Just saying thanks. Uhm... I see that - from your games that I watched until this lesson - you play Blitz. My understanding is that Blitz could help someone that has learned their opening well, increase their rating, but blitz does not allow the opponent to think, and therefore they blunder. I hope to see you playing Rapid games as well.

So many times I find myself wanting to do all important challenge into the center with my c pawn rather than my e pawn. Unless the e pawn is the obvious choice because of the position on the board, it seems pushing the c pawn allows my fiancettod dark Bishop so much more range, rather than my e pawn pushing and blocking that Bishop up on e5, or e5 remaining blocked after pawns are exchanged. I know it depends on so many factors, but generally speaking, am I wrong in starting to prefer to push with c rather than e? Thanks so much for your time!

By watching your videos I discovered that I was playing the pirc in most of my games as black. But I always called it Kings indian Defense. Is there a big difference between these openings if you play g6, Bg5 and O-O?
@NMRobertRamirez
@NMRobertRamirez 3 жыл бұрын
Great question! Basically if you play this system vs 1.e4, it is the Pirc. If you use it vs 1.d4, then it is the King's Indian Defense. The King's Indian Defense is a different monster if you ask me, but I personally have been using ideas from it in the Pirc and vice versa.
