I have a Yamaha dtx4 special and it's excellent. the percussive sounds are very realistic. the key thing about Yamaha is the layering options, having up to two different drums or cymbles on the one pad makes for some exceptional options. I've played the Roland 30 and its OK but Roland doesn't let u later sounds. the new Yamaha ones now offer 4 layering options..

how do you stack sounds ?
@AstroPinoy4 жыл бұрын
1 major flaw is that the snare will only trigger 1 zone. for example. you want to hit the rim and head at the same time, it wont do it until I replace it with DTX-PRO and everything works with not much of the machine gun effect

I have micd acoustic drums. Yamaha maple absolute novea with a Yamaha hex rack 2. If I wanted to start a hybrid kit could I buy just a module and a tom pad or two to mix in with my acoustic drums? I'd also like to get the full electric kit too eventually for playing when company comes over without disturbing them as much.

These feel great but all sounds quickly become repetitive, specially when playing fast rolls. Rolands td30 also suffers from that! Also. Perhaps a key to a more expressive drum sound would be to add resonances within some kits and importantly at least 4-8 different stickings at the same velocity on each drum?

I want this kit but my hesitation is that they have just upgraded the module to the DTX950M but did not upgrade to USB 3.0. Why? Seems like an easy enough update. The transfer rate is SIGNIFICANTLY faster than the 1.1. Does anyone know if a Yamaha service dealer would be able to do a custom upgrade?

just want to comfirm, is it posible if I download mp3 music into my usb flash drive then connect to dtx device to play my music and remove the drum sound? because I want to do drum sound on my own while my mp3 music plays without drum sound. your quick response is highly appreciated. ty
@krenwregget76673 жыл бұрын
no, the drums cannot be removed from MP3s, only from the MIDI tracks available on the module itself. However, you can find LOTS of popular tunes online (including KZbin) with drums removed as MP3s and then play along with those. That's what I do.

What are the amps/speakers recommended for yamaha drums? I have a dtxplorer iv.
@fullcompass9 жыл бұрын
Alpcan Aras Yamaha sells 2 different monitor systems, but a lot more people use the Roland versions. KAT Percussion has some as well or really any powered PA speaker or Keyboard amp. The only thing to look out for is that it can handle enough low end for your kick sounds. A lot of people don't use any monitor at all, just headphones or a stage monitor if they are playing live through the PA.
@AlpcanAras9 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the response. I'm using a 5+1 speaker system for 4 years. It is really well but I need a more precise sound. I also tried to plug it to my bass amp. But it makes the sound digital and bass oriented. My yamaha dealer doesn't sell the yamaha monitors so if you can help me about that I'd appreciate that. Thanks!

Very nice sounding kit in my opinion Tom, but I have to admit the price is SCARY. I've been researching electronic drums now for a couple wks. There is another kit out there the Alesis DM10 X Kit Professional Six Piece that is completely comparable to this kit, with 6 drums, 3 cymbals plus hat, for ONLY 1400.00, depending on your source. Amazon it's 1500. That's CDN as well. Your kit is 6K and I'm guessing that U.S. currency. Even if CDN, that's a huge price jump, from what seems a comparable ekit. Also, while the Yamaha Module seems very good, I believe the Alesis Module offers many more sounds. Really like the kit Tom, but not the price!
@krenwregget76673 жыл бұрын
I just bought one of these kits used off Reverb. I previously had a Yamaha DTXtremeiii SP which had the rubber pads but the same brain and I loved it. In my opinion, the new silicone pads are a real improvement over the old Yamaha rubber pads and even over the Roland mesh heads. The biggest issue is that it uses the same module as my old kit and the stock sounds are not very good which is why I spend time to create/edit my own custom kits or it would be easy enough to run a drum library like Steven Slate or Superior Drummer on this module. In fact, this kit with a good library would be amazing because the physical kit itself plays really, really nicely and the Hex Rack II is the best on the market as far as I'm concerned.
@lucksury4 жыл бұрын
Gotta be honest, the sound difference between this kit and the dtx522k is minimal at best. They both sound great but this one isn't worth thousands more than the dtx522k
@krenwregget76673 жыл бұрын
actually, if you play it... it is. The silicone pads and upgraded Hex Rack are incredible. Physically, this is the best e-kit on the market in my opinion. Yes, the sounds aren't the best but you can easily run an aftermarket sample library on the module.

It's cause the pads dont have positional sensing, and the velocity sensors are kinda shit, so the fills start machine gunning.
@bilalsmith36210 жыл бұрын
HOLY CRAP THAT'S EXPENSIVE!!
@DrummerGrrrl10 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is. However, Yamaha e-drums are significantly less expensive than a comparable Roland e-kit and you have to remember how many drum kits/percussion/cymbals/ etc. that you're getting with the DTX950K module. If you wanted all the kits/cymbals/percussion in acoustic sets, you'd have to buy a hell of a lot of drum kits/cymbals/percussion! All of those would set you back a lot more than this kit does! So, I guess you just have to decide if all the kits and other sounds in the module are worth the price. I'd much rather haul around this e-kit than have to lug drums, cymbals, stands, percussion around! And, the e-kits on this module were recorded from actual Yamaha acoustic kits! I don't know how Roland gets the sounds for their drum module but I would rather lay down my precious greenbacks for the Yamaha electronic drums.

***** Or, you could build your own e-kit. It's not that difficult, there are a ton of D.I.Y. videos on KZbin and you can also check out the V-drums forum on the web. Plenty of folks on there have built e-kits, either using parts of acoustic drum kits or just building their own trigger assemblies/hardware/etc.

Sorry, but I'd Never use kits like this for the studio. I have 40 years of experience so take my word for it. I've done it, and Sorely regretted it. If you're a drummer, even with the best roland kits, the stare's Never sound natural, as you'll never get the right sustain as say, a Ludwig Black Beauty, or the toms in the studio. These are great or gigs, when you don't want to carry all of your heavy shit, and great for practicing at home, so you don't drive your neighbors nuts, but never for the studio, which is a waste, since these cost $4000.00. Screw the neighbors!
