I was hesitant about it but you've made it a lot clearer how really easy it is. What was left out is about how to retract the tensioners. Looked like the tool was hand made. Thanks for your video, just did my oil pump gears and it was still a pain in the ass with the engine in the car. I had a lot of issues getting the sump oil bolt back in on the tight side. My engine has a baffle in the oil pan which makes it that much harder to get that bolt back in. I dropped it in the oil pan once and thought I would have to pull the engine out to get it. Luckily I was able to fish it out with a long magnet. I finally got that bolt back in and my engine is going back together now.

Nick if your removing the timing chain and the crank is at 12 and the r isn’t up on the passenger side then you need to rotate the crank around 1 more time to 12 o’clock and the r will be up. That’s where it needs to be then.

Awesome vid! I followed your video and changed my gears, and placed the timing chain links as you did. Know this is where a get confused, I decided to turn the engine two times see if everything lined back up. Crank links match every two full turns. But the cam color links move further away from the marks every turn. I'm thinking it's still in time, just has to turn many times to line the color links back up. Any thoughts? I sure as hell don't want to break cams and bent valves lol.
@SpeedAddict7314 жыл бұрын
Dave Weightman thank you!!! it takes 20 something revolutions to get back to the paint marks on the timing marks. If you wanted to you could count and it’s 31 links in between timing marks. So start counting the link after the cam timing mark and stop counting at the link before the crank mark. Should be 31 links. I usually turn the crank two full revolutions then count to make sure nothing jumped time. It never has though. Hope this helps.

Does it make sense to change the housing as well? Seeing that you're swapping out for billet gears, with a stock housing. MMR makes the Hurricane pump with billet gears installed. why are the black chain links not in the same spot when it was disassembled? at reassembling the black chain links go on to the marks but at the disassembling point the black links were not lined up at all, why are they so important to line up after?
@SpeedAddict7312 жыл бұрын
Because even though the same amount of chain lengths between timing points stay the same the chain still rotates. It takes several revolutions for them to come back to the spot. The paint marks are a reference to make sure you have the right amount of chain lengths in between the two timing marks to have the engine timed correctly. If you count the chain lengths in between the two timing marks they are always the same.

Did you replace the timing cover gasket or is it reusable? Great vid btw 💪🏾
@SpeedAddict7315 жыл бұрын
Adrain6845 thank you! The timing cover gasket is rubber it can be reused if low mileage but it’s not very expensive so I would replace it. This engine had just had the mustang timing cover installed about 2,000 miles ago so he didn’t replace it.

Anyone drop the bottom hard to get to bolt on the oil pick up tube meeting the oil pump and it’s deep down in the oil pan. Just happened to me and I can’t get it out with a magnet🥹

How about a Gen 2 longblock on a Gen 1 car? How will you go about it?
@SpeedAddict7315 жыл бұрын
310 you will use gen 2 timing procedures since it’s a gen2 long block. Here is the video below. Watch entire video before performing the job. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aoTWeGSljNCEgNU

So can someone tell me if the starting position is having the key way at 12 o’clock or is there a certain way the cams have to be facing?
@SpeedAddict7315 жыл бұрын
Carlos Villareal start out with the key way at 12 o’clock. To verify the cams are in the right position. The R should be pointing up on the passenger side. Also on the gen 1 coyotes the matrix code on the cams should be up also. The crank Keyway can be at 12 and cams not in the right position. In that case turn the crank one revolution to the 12 o clock position and the cams will be right. Then start the procedure.
