This is literally the perfect after show for non-casual fans of the series who want to discuss fan theories and the big picture. I get that After The Thrones is a show designed to explain what happened to casual fans of the TV show, but I wish HBO would throw some money at Alt Shift X to produce an after show like this. His videos are top notch.

+xMrGoKux That's how conquering works. You don't go there and ask nicely, you MAKE people bend the knee. And if you think anything but Aegon-fire-blood-thing is gonna do it, you are a fool. It was about time she realised that. When you play the Game of Thrones, you either win or you die, remember? :) I don't think she will have even the tiniest bit of Aerys in her, pure Aegon. They cannot fight the White Walkers divided into small groups of *all-I-care-about-is-me-and-my-house*. They need Dany-Aegon and they need it now.
@xMrGoKux8 жыл бұрын
She's not pure Aegon.He was a good leader too and knew to take decisions,he was quite rational.But Daenerys,not so much.That's why I said she has a bit of Aerys in her.Also I know the way Aegon did it was the best.I just wish she wasn't the one to do it.Stannis was my choice for king.

+xMrGoKux Well, Stannis was never my choice for king. I am not sure if she is. Honestly, she is the conqueror, but maybe Jon Snow is the best king they will ever get. I just don't see that happening in GRRM universe. But one could hope. :) Anywho, she is no Aerys, at least not to me. :)
@ellenhart72118 жыл бұрын
Great analysis, but I am seriously tired of people interpreting Dany's power as madness. She's scary, yes, but she's not evil. You can see the moment she decided to do what she did: when she listened to the girl's story about her kidnap, rape, and then beating after her rape baby was a girl. Dany is compassionate. Her actions in Ep. 4 were motivated by compassion and a sense that an unjust system needed to be toppled to protect the innocent. Do I think she will save the day and everyone will live happily ever after? No, I don't think it's that simple, but I also don't think the pendulum will swing completely the other way.
@Gaamel358 жыл бұрын
+Ellen Hart High-level politics is about cold and calculated decisions, not emotions. Leave compassion out of the picture, it's only suited to propaganda, singers and tale writers (and personal relations, obviously). Something Tywin Lannister and Ned Stark (two excellent rulers, even if Stark realized too late that he was surrounded by dishonest players) understood very well. If Ned Stark had obeyed his "compassion" he wouldn't have executed the poor deserters of the Night's Watch, and the Wall would have been deserted for a long time. He wouldn't have allowed his elder daugher to be betrothed to the little shit Joffrey, and civil war would have started much sooner. Dany : she thinks having good intentions is enough to bring justice to the world. She's delusional, has no idea of the middle and long-term consequences of her actions. Compassion is important to deal with family and friends, but as a lord you have far greater responsabilities. Smallfolk don't give a shit about compassion. They want bread, work and a decent living. You don't overthrow a system used for centuries (of not milleniums) in the blink of an eye. See how it ended up in modern-day Lybia or Irak when you destroy the State and leave nothing behind. She's lucky to have a powerful army and very good military advisors (Jorah, Barristan, Grey Worm)
@adriancaine52788 жыл бұрын
+Ellen Hart Her compassion is one of her weaknesses. She is not capable of thinking rational and makes wrong decisions all the time. She would probably be just as good as queen as Cersei is.

Frank Spencer Jon is her half-brother not step-brother. Jon coming back from the dead is big news..everyone' talking about it. Sansa doesn't have to hear it from Jon. +D Mann WRONG! The Umbers ARE NOT loyal to the Boltons!! AND, The Umbers ARE NOT loyal to the Starks!! - all this talk about,.... They wouldn't turn over Rickon, unless they are loyal to the Boltons. NO! They Don't want Ramsay, AND they don't want a male aire to Winterfell and The North They want to rule The North themselves, or want someone in power that the can trust. I don't believe Smalljon hated his father ("was a cunt"), and DOES care about tradition, and I am sure LittleFinger reinforced the fact that the "Warden of the North" is really not a legitimized Bastard (Because Tommen is a Lannister Twincest child), and the family in charge is only there because they betrayed the North by teaming up with the Lannisters (Red Wedding). The North run by a psychopathic, reckless, father killing, turn cloak named Ramsay is only going to end badly for the Umbers, and they probably feel they could better rule the North, or have it run by another they respect with tradition and loyalty. (The way the Starks originally did) They did speak truth about wanting the Wildlings removed from south of the wall, and Jon Snow enabling the "Free Folk" is making it easy to forget their original love for the Starks. The "Pink Letter" (on the show) is from Little Finger with the cooperation of The Umbers.

The Dothraki despise weakness. If Daenerys had been weak, she would have perished with Viserys. I know she is fierce. Astapor, Yunkai, and Meereen are proof enough of that. Many People believe that the High Sparrow told Tommen about the Tyrells or at least Olennas involvement in Joffreys Murder, a piece of information he got from Loras. Thats why Cersei wants the Tyrells to march against the Faith while the Lannister Army "steps down". By doing that Cersei would create a Rift between the Commonfolk and the Tyrells, the two parties that Cersei despises, who then fight each other, with the Tyrells winning of course, and then Cersei would finish the Tyrell Army off and take revenge for Joffrey.

+CaptainWaffle Yeah like Olenna Tyrell is stupid enough to share her kingslaying plans with Loras. Margeary on the other hand does know the involvment of her grandmother in the death of Joffrey, but I don't believe she would have told anyone.

"Fire cannot hurt a dragon". That's a much easier explanation for why she doesn't get hurt, rather than the complicated way it seems the books puts it.
@DBeiki8 жыл бұрын
+AarlandSun But fire can hurt her in the books, GRRM himself has said this. there are reasons to believe in the books that either the ending of season 1 was a miracle, or that it wasn't because of her bloodline that she survived but thanks to the work of that sorceress she burned.
@toby88278 жыл бұрын
+DBeiki It wasn't so much the sorceress as it was just lucky circumstances. She stumbled on a ritual involving King's blood (Khal Drogo), personal sacrifice (her child) and another sacrifice (the priestess). This is a thing that has been mentioned elsewhere in the books I think and confirmed by GRRM. The show, however, is skipping that to just say "nah she's immune to fire because she's The Dragon".
@ivrishcon-abarth388 жыл бұрын
+AarlandSun I was just thinking maybe the Mad King fucked a dragon or viceversa and Daenerys has some dragon DNA :) Anyway, Theon should have a nickname, like Shitrainsuponmeallthetime.
@DBeiki8 жыл бұрын
Toby Gillard It may also be the incantations that mirri maz durr (the priestess) was chanting that have saved daenerys' life. You should check out Preston Jacob's videos about the dornish master plan which touches on this subject. All theories ofc. But my point was that the book doesn't try and explain why dany can't be burnt, because she can.

@CadaverJunky88 жыл бұрын
Holy shit *THANK YOU* for pointing out that Dany is NOT fire proof in the books. She gets burnt at least like two times and it hurts her. She only survived the pyre cause of Mirri's magic. The show is just being the show and doing whatever the fuck it does.

ive been thinking about the symbology of the story circling around Dany and Jon, the song of ice and fire. Can't help that the story is going in opposite direction. Jon ever so compassionate and noble is a shining light, where Dany is slowly descending into a ice cold blooded killer.

In the books, there's a handful of people who could've written the letter. In the show, there's only 2 people imo, Ramsay or the Umbers. I'm leaning more towards the Umbers just based off of how the letter was written. Whoever wrote it makes sure that the first thing mentioned is the wildlings, it overuses the word bastard, and it's not Ramsay's style to write in this way (The letter he sent to Pike about Theon was completely different in tone and wording). Even the seal of the letter looks like someone slabbed some wax down, let it dry, then carved the flayed man into it. I believe that the Umbers are baiting Jon into a battle with the Boltons so they could wipe each other out. The Umbers were loyal to the Starks, but they hate the wildlings more than anything. They most likely hate the Boltons, too. It's just a thought.

Does anyone else think "2,000 warrior wildings" is a bit weak? Everyone's been crapping their pants over these guys coming south of the wall...and that's not enough to threaten a single location of significance south of the Wall. We were told this was a huge army, but that's...a very small town at best.
@theWebWizrd8 жыл бұрын
+R Doom Interesting point. According to awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Armies, the horde of wildlings might have been 100 000 strong, but Thormund only commands about 5000 wildlings total at the Night's Watch. It's not surprising that half of those would not be warriors.
@Doom3148 жыл бұрын
+theWebWizrd I'd go a little higher than 40% of Tormund's personal troops are combat capable--wildling culture is clearly warrior based, and that status is open to males and females. But 100,000 does seem like a plausible number, the kind of number that would cause real consternation. I bet "coming back from the dead" would inspire a few followers. Historically, it's been pretty effective.
@Doom3148 жыл бұрын
Totally agreed, there.
@adriancaine52788 жыл бұрын
+R Doom 2000 Could be a lot. If you remember the thenns and Thormund back in season 4, they raided, murdered and raped their way through several villages without anyone managing to stop them. 2000 could do far more. Especially now after the north lost a lot of their men in the war, and the Boltons are threatened.

I think Dany may have done a sacrifice using the blood of Khals(Kings in a certain sense) via burning them in the hut. This may be the second fire she must light, for death with the pyre of drogo being the fire for life of the dragons. There's one pyre left and it's for love, wonder which royal person will be used for it.
@an.70398 жыл бұрын
I like your theory. But what the Khals were sacrificed for?
@kendjichirac58508 жыл бұрын
+James Sarlson (“Renly”) Not a bad theory. I just hope the next royal person isn't Tyrion x)
@JayMorayEel8 жыл бұрын
Ana Kh. To resist the fire if we're considering tv fire resist to be an inconsistency. Perhaps more likely to gain some manner of control over her new khalassar.
@d.j.mcbride46228 жыл бұрын
+James “Renly” Sarlson I agree, I think she needs blood to power it. At first she used the sacrifice of Mirri Maz Duur -- who was still alive while being burned. In this case the Khals were the blood sacrifice. Just like Mirri they were burned and their death paid for Dany's life. That is why the flames raced to consume them, moving in ways that are otherwise not natural. You could argue that the Kharls were the royalty of the Dothraki
@Brzezi258 жыл бұрын
+James “Renly” Sarlson The final pyre could be Jorah, technically hes royalty in bear island, and not only that hes clearly in love with Dany. We also know hes most likely going to die or be willing to die once he gets Dany back to Mereen.
