Australia Post were outsourcing their package deliveries to 3rd party people. At the shop I worked at, we literally had one of their people drive up to the front of the shop and throw packages through the open doors and onto the floor. Some of it was fragile items. We had to make semi-regular complaints to Aust Post, because of it. The "Sorry we missed you" part is also true. Once I was waiting for a package to arrive to the same shop. All I got was one of those cards that said no one was there at 11am on a Thursday. There were seven staff members in our open and operating store at the time. I went to Australia Post to pick up the undelivered package, but they were closed, because it was a Friday before a christmas long weekend. It wasn't even a public holiday, but they closed up anyway. I had to go back there a few days later, to be told it was longer than seven days, so my stuff had been sent back to the sender. Four or five of those seven days were when the Post Office was closed. I had to put in a complaint to the ombudsman because of it all.

0:54 I've nearly literally had that happen to me. Working at home, car in driveway, blinds open, lights and radio on. I hear a rustling sound, stick my head around the corner from the office and the postie is just wedging a "sorry we missed you" card in the screen door because apparently that was easier than knocking. He hadn't even brought the package from the van, just the card. We made eye contact and I saw him decide to walk off… then think better of it. "Aww… … I thought you weren't home. I'll go get your thing.". Didn't see that postie many times.

My Dad was a delivery contractor for AusPost for years, and they ran on a three strike system - as in, three complaints and you're fired. Ever. For any complaint, no matter what the reason, no matter whether it was true or not. One person complained that the AusPost magnets on his car door weren't quite straight once (country delivery area, approximately half of his 120+ km delivery route was on heavily corrugated gravel roads), and that counted. That was the only complaint he ever got, but yeah, he got out his spirit level and some fucking glue so they couldn't possibly move.
