@@Isleofskye saw Rory in 83 and 87, when i was still in school, and then college. He was jaw droppingly good, especially the 2nd time, in Germany, when he played for over 3 hours (NINE encores! Crowd just wouldn't let him leave) Saw Gary in 83 on the Victims of the Future tour. His playing was face melting(it was his metal/hard rock period, and he played mainly a strat and a charvel), but his voice was ropey that night. Sorry i never got to see him during his "Blues" period. No one has or had a tone like his on the Les Paul

Greetings from Germany. Damned, my friend..i'm done.. Your words, feelings you shared are way Moore as i aspected. I once was so lucky to were one of those in this crowd. Saw him back in 1989. A lifechanging expirience for me. Your reaction took me back in time, brought back lovely memories. Thanx for that...Honestly, for a second I was afraid you would be like others. Sorry🤣 Sadwise many are not able to let music emotional touch their hears and souls. Cause of that they are most stressed of his live Performance. And say 'thats too much, he overdo it, he is arrogant and showing of. That makes me sad. He loved his fans and he gave us what we wanted. Just imagine how hard it is to express yourself, honestly, pure, without carering how you look like(especialy his face play😄). In front of people. I'm very emotional too but often not able to show it in public. Thats sad for myself and hurts. Cause i dont know why. But he give me the strenght and faith to learn it. Everyday...(thanks, Gary) And believe me, it takes you much higher when you feel him live in person. Dude, i'm still hyped...again, thank you & bless you. Stefan

Fun fact, that guitar he's playing is called Greeny, it used to belong to Peter Green, made it's way to Gary, and is now in possession of Kirk Hammet of Metallica. It had an unusually long sustain because of the way the pickups were wired.

Over time you will probably be having more footage from the Montreaux Jazz Fest so here's a little hint, Montreaux is pronounced Mont-Row, it is in Switzerland, the X is silent. This is the same town where Deep Purple recorded the Machine Head album, with the song "Smoke On The Water", Montreaux has a long history in the rock world. Gary Moore is a guitar god by the way.

I thought that too. It looks EXACTLY like "Greeny" but this performance was 2010 and Gary had sold "Greeny" in 2006. So this guitar is either a replica (not an official Gibson one - they hadn't done one at that time) or he managed to borrow the real one from whoever owned it at the time. RIP Gary.

That's Peter Green's 1959 Les Paul Standard. Maybe not as a first reaction, but when you have time, listen to Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac for British blues very heavily inspired by Delta and Chicago bluesmen (and women! - Rosetta Tharpe) from the US. Musically, in the 1960's, white American popular music developed independently from the rich material right on its doorstep (with the exceptions of such notables as Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis Presley) whereas young British musicians and their audiences loved the rich blues sounds from America (the Beatles and the Rolling Stones being two huge names) giving rise to The Yardbirds, Cream, Fleetwood Mac, etc. Listen to Love That Burns, Man of the World, and the live versions of Rattlesnake Shake, the Madge Sessions, and Black Magic Woman (covered by Carlos Santana). You will have a very rich vein to mine investigating British blues.

The master of sustain, and certainly could outrun on a fretboard most of the so-called top 10 guitarists that seem to make the lists. Not only a master on the guitar, but his vocal ability wasn't too shabby to boot. His playing ability was put to best use on these ballads that he could produce,to blues,to the hard out rockers, and not many of the so-called top guitarists could boast about that.Just my own biased opinion of course.

Totally agree with you Rob!! I saw Stevie Ray Vaughan six times, Jeff Healey 5 times and many other great guitarists over my 57 years. I saw Gary Moore 3 times! All are 3 of my favorite guitarist that blew me away each and every time! But Gary Moores versatility to play anything and everything was mind boggling to me! Just the viciousness in how he played, along with his guitar tone, for almost 3 hrs turned at full volume at the concerts I saw him at just pulverized right through my body! A true spiritual experience!! Also great voice which never failed in concert. GUITAR GOD!! Sorry about the long rant! I think that's the most words I've ever typed in one text!🤔😬😏 Rock on man! 🎸🎤🎶🤘✌

IMHO, the version found on One Night In Dublin (the tribute to Phil Lynott) is far superior to this one. He's phenomenal no matter what style he's playing; from his metal god 80's days to his later career blues. I recommend opening your ears to "Out In The Fields" or "Because of Your Love" from his G-Force album.
