I visited my first bathhouse recently with my new partner, who had visited before. We visited The Club in Ft. Lauderdale which I found to be incredibly well kept, clean and up scale. Inside I found various shapes, sizes and colors and felt comfortable for the most part. It was mid-week and early afternoon so it wasn't too busy, but for my first experience it was busy enough. I tend to be a shy guy so it was helpful for me. I believe we went though all of the spaces and I do not recall a totally black room. The steam room was very dark but had randomly placed dim lighting. It was fun and I look forward to a repeat visit.

Don't really know that darkrooms are meant for chat. Have seen it going on in common areas of bathhouses but never the darkrooms or cruising areas. Just moans, groans and maybe an occasional request order (suck that c**k). Maybe it's more of a European thing.

I am in the UK and used to goto london way back in 1989. Started out at normal gay bars. One particular one in soho used to be fun as you could have fun in the washroom. I then got talking to guys and was told about these places. First time I remember my heart was beating fast through excitement and nervousness. It was a hard place to find it turned out to be between two everyday normal businesses a few steps down to a door once inside there was a window with a guy at a desk I paid my entrance fee and was given a ticket which I was told entitled me to a free drink of my choice. I went in and there was a bar in Front of me I took my ticket and told the barman what drink I wanted. I explained it was my first time here and he kindly explained everything and issued a crate to put my clothes in as it was underwear only night. I went changed put everything in the crate and was given a receipt and told don't loose it I took my drink and sat for a while at a comfortable seating area next to the bar. I then decided to explore. Well the rest is self explanatory. It turned out a very nice fun night apart from walking out like a cowboy lol.

This reminds me of the time I had a conversation in the early 2000s with an astrophysicist of all people in the jacuzzi at Watergardens in San Jose, CA when it still was open. I was asking him what would happen if an asteroid of various sizes were to slam into the earth and I remember the conversation to this day. Fun times.

In my perusal of bathhouses I’ve always checked out the darkrooms as they are very intriguing. The “standing outside tha door” has always been a staple, & once your eyes adjust a bit you can have some enjoyable moments. As far as the flashlight, the cleaners use them to come in and sweep & only motion it on the floor, but I’d be cool with using a red light cuz even if I can’t see your face, one thing that doesn’t change are feet & shoes and that’s how I determine who is in certain spaces. Once I’ve locked that in, I use that as my plum line in case I’m uncertain. As always, great tips and enjoyable videos 😊

I have a tip. If the dark room is in a bar / club make sure you don’t have much on you. Meaning dot bring a wallet , bring your phone thar has your ID on it. Also if you must have your car keys or other important items with you then wear pants / shorts with buttons / zippers on them. My point is that people will pick pocket.

I haven't been to a bath house in 20 years and now that I'm in my 60's I sure won't be going to any, but when I did go all the dark rooms that I've been to was pitch black and it was either a empty room with people standing against the wall, or it was like a maze and you can't see anything. You have to fell the wall to get around and to feel where the glory holes are located. I guess thing are much different in Canada as opposed to the US. Now days with Monkeypox I don't see a lot of people going to it in NYC.

In the early 2000's there used to be a HUGE gay bar in East St. Louis, MO. I can't remember its name and I think it's closed now, but that bar had a large dark room that was pitch black. I went in the dark room twice and, after two attempts, I can say a pitch black dark room isn't for me. The absolute darkness felt generally unsafe (and I didn't like repeatedly bumping into random guys or getting my feet stepped on). And while I understand that other senses are heightened in a pitch black room, sight is my primary attraction factor, so I couldn't get stimulated without seeing who was around. Having said all that, I'm definitely open to visiting a clean and well-maintained dark room that has some ambient lighting.

I think the most important point here is that dark rooms are for men, who cannot attract other men in the common areas. I don't mean to be "too" judgemental, but they are usually full of older or heavy men, looking for free groping. I went into a dark room in the Barracks once, and was nearly "pawed" to death.. Many will not take 'NO' for an answer, and it can be most uncomfortable. I did my own little survey of b/houses in Toronto, most of Europe and Thailand/ Japan. It's the same.. the people who go in there are demographically different and find their courage in dark spaces. Not for me, I'm afraid.

Then again, since there are vaccines for both COVID and Monkeypox, along with others that are good to have (hep A, B and HPV), unless you're against that sort of thing. Getting checked for STD's regularly is also very important. People take chances with lots of things.... sports (especially extreme ones like skydiving, deep water diving, parachuting, parasailing, etc.). Some people consider sex a sport and there's nothing wrong with that.

Having visited several bathhouses over the years, I have only ever been in 2, somewhat dark rooms. Once was in a bathhouse in Las Vegas (it wasn't busy, so no real action) mostly to see what it was like. And another in a city in Texas where I decided to just throw caution (and my towel) to the wind. I actually remember very little about either encounter. I prefer a bit of foreplay to just random touching and/or sucking.

I have a question Patrick: obviously Dark Rooms have to be cleaned just like the rest of a bathhouse. How often is this done, typically? And how is the room "cleared" for the cleaning? Do they give a warning, or just flip on the lights and all the boys scurry? 😊

In a Bkk sauna the dark rooms are cleaned by the hour. And the arriving cleaners will shout out something as a warning with flashlights pointed downards to the floor. It doesn't take them to cleanup longer than 10 mins

Sex clubs are so fun. My partner and I just moved from SF to LA and we checked out one not too far from us pretty recently. Cool vibe, decent setup, good, diverse crowd. The energy is great… my guy and I have been together (exclusively) for just over 10 years, and we’re very happy together. Going to places like that and seeing each other in a different light, combined with the sexually charged atmosphere generally helps fire up the attraction and desire between us more so than during our regular routine. @@PatrickMarano Absolutely- at least for us. When we were there, my guy said I could go off on my own for a bit if I wanted. He knows that a good number of years ago, about 4 years into our relationship we took a break from our relationship. Maybe it was we needed some time to think about stuff, maybe to see if we’d gravitate back together with time to miss the other. I’m the younger of us, and I’d come to SF from a much more parochial, conservative place, and hadn’t had a chance to explore my kinks. In those few months apart, going to the sex club I found a little exhibitionist, entertainer streak in myself… slings, patio tables etc. I enjoyed the experience of it with multiple people at a time, feeling desired by gorgeous men with no reason to fake it, and making each feel like they were the best and hottest, as others watched. It was important that I had that. When we did get back together, having taken the time to recognize how important we are to each other, I had a new peace of mind that I could be in a monogamous relationship indefinitely without any wonder whether I had missed out on anything. I think that’s what he was thinking when he said I could feel ok to go off on my own for a while. But that wasn’t quite what I wanted- whatever I did, I wanted it to be us plus whomever else. I know that in my younger years I’d never have been able to enjoy that. I’ve grown out of a lot of my jealousy and binary thinking. Being part of a great, fulfilling relationship certainly helps. And it gives us the opportunity to keep things hot and meeting those needs while maintaining our trust. Keep up the great work with your videos. So many people would very likely benefit from such places and sides of ourselves becoming less taboo.

Although there are the inevitable cruel and judgemental gays there that are everywhere, there will also be a group of sexy guys that are looking exactly for your type. There has always been ridicule and rejection in everyone's life. If you want to go, then go! Start out slow, stand back and observe. Get comfortable with your surroundings. Go hang out in the hot tub for awhile. Im almost sure you would have fun. The eye candy alone is worth the price of admission! I don't go there with ANY expectations. Well, the bathhouse was originally a place to bathe. To clean yourself with water and socialize. The ones I talk about and review are Gay and their purpose is sexual. In Europe though, they are called Saunas.

I just wanted to add that I agree with you that getting a room is the best option, the first time I went to a bathhouse I opted to just walk around and, I had a lot of sex but it was in the open. The next time I opted to get a room, I got settled, left the door ajar, and there were guys looking in but passing me by. I started to get upset, so instead of facing the door I got on my stomach with my butt slightly in the air, and within two mins ( for real) I had two tops come in they used me, and my butt really well. Sometimes it's a small thing that you can change to have things come your way, smile.
