However, in general, it seems the general consensus is that it's good to be handing over more and more power to the state to determine what is good and bad and what the "correct" narrative is for the next generation. That leads to authoritarian rule, whether it's on the left, right, or center.

@@davidkelkins510 I agree that authoritarianism is bad, and that carries with it the implication that many authoritarian regimes are that way for the sake of being authoritarian. It is, of course, a moot point as to how much a government should or shouldn't intervene. The two areas under discussion were mental health and physical health. In the first case, that of bullying because of differences, if there is an equalities act, what use is it if it's not enforced? If we scrap it, however, we will be giving the green light for prejudice to have free rein. In the case of vaccines, we've seen a big increase in childhood illnesses, endangering whole communities where outbreaks occur. We are awash with laws, but we trade off some freedoms for the freedom to live lives untainted by unnecessary hardship. The difficulty, of course lies in the question "Who decides?" Not only that, but how can we be sure that not only the decision makers, but the whole population are fully apprised of the facts? Muslim communities for example seem to think that homosexuality can be taught or caught, yet there is no evidence to support this notion. Shouldn't we be saying, as Hitchens said "You are entitled to your own opinions, you are not entitled to your own facts", and it is facts that government should deal with.

@@OxAO I should have said "In the case of rejection of vaccines...." This, of course, only applies where one unvaccinated child passes it on to other unvaccinated children. Often it depends on how active anti-vaccination rhetoric is in any particular area. Strong activists, be they religiously or otherwise convinced, can affect how people in local communities make their decisions.

Very good points made here I can't believe this happened so long ago and I'm only seeing this now. Great point made about the event being an bit of am echo chamber. I think something that would add to part of this discussion is Muslims in Britain are still not fully accepted. The acceptance is much higher than it used to be and I believe this is due to the inclusion of Muslims in schools and Muslim ideas in the curriculum. Many bigots want Britain to be as it was (when they were in schools) but it's inclusion that allows society to progress. So now that Muslims are more accepted, and I'd suspect there would be figures that suggest this can be partly attributed to education, LGBT people are in the position Muslims were decades ago. Where there are few and as inclusion and education continue they will be more accepted.

I do disagree with the children's rights argument to a certain degree. Because then we are in Dangerous Ground when a three-year-old could determine that they don't want to be a boy anymore. If at 16 they don't want to be a boy... anymore sure fine.. you have a bigger understanding of who you are... but at 3 years old... 7 years old I have an issue..

I don't think that's what we meant, we so simply meant a child has some inalienable rights that even a parent cannot take away. I don't believe a minor should be allowed to decide on gender reassignment, the same way a child can't get a driver's license or a tattoo.

When it comes to vaccines please allow me to ask you to reconsider. The truth on this is buried very deep. You don't want to be on the wrong side of this issue influencing folks to go forward because you may have made a miscalculation. The health industry has shown its hand when considering our health. Stents, Statins and the death rate of prescription drugs. When it comes to vaccines stay skeptical. Don't advice on this one. Allow people to come to their own conclusions. You and those in your community should step away

But this is not black and white Much gray area because humans are unique For that reason one drug doesn't fits all. What works for you may not work for me. If you want to dive in that is your choice. This was pointless. Not one person knew anything about why people have scientific reasons for not forced vaccination. Other then "fear" which isn't the reason. "studies" have shown that Thiomersal (organomercury compound) that it has no ill effect on children. The studies are correct that Thiomersal in the compound form can not hurt the child. It's not hard to figure out why mercury compound's get broken down in the body. Thiomersal is reactive with Acid, oxidizing agents and Alkali. Examples of oxidizing agent would be iodine found in cranberry juice. or Alkali such as magnesium, calcium, strontium and barium brakes the bond. No study on Thiomersal has been made into what food react with the compound. Again the compound itself is not harmful. Reactivity Profile MERCURY((O-CARBOXYPHENYL)THIO)ETHYL, SODIUM SALT is incompatible with strong oxidizing agents and strong bases. The oxidation of this compound is greatly accelerated by traces of copper ions. Incompatible with acids, iodine, heavy metal salts and many alkaloids. Can be absorbed by rubber caps. (NTP, 1992). Stable in air, but not sunlight. May discolor on exposure to light. Dilute aqueous solutions are fairly stable to heat but sensitive to light. Solutions are less stable to heat when acidic than when alkaline. Solutions are most stable to light at pH 5 to 7. Solutions are unstable to heat but not to light in the presence of copper, iron or zinc ions but not in the presence of calcium or magnesium ions cameochemicals.noaa.gov/chemical/20596 Thiomersal is used as a preservative for many vaccines. That it doesn't brake down in blood? They're right Thiomersal doesn't brake down in blood. Look up "Iodine allergy" which was also a myth not long ago. It's not an allergy. It's a reaction in the blood with foods that react with iodine. Again, which we know for a fact Thiomersal reacts with Iodine yet not one study has been made to check Thiomersal with iodine in the blood 25 micrograms of mercury per 0.5 mL dose which bypasses your digestive system. Example Tuna Fish will have more mercury in it but your body is able to process it. To answer your question. Yes because it goes directly into your bloodstream it is very harmful. Don't ever mix up foods with something that is directly injected into your blood The empirical evidence of autism being cut it half statistically contradicts those reports in the real world environment If you wish to talk about Aluminum Salts that is fine we can talk about that preservative
