I have questions. If for example, there was an American scientist/ tree farmer who got really sick of the politics at home, and decided to move to a relatively drama-free zone, would Icelanders be okay with that? Also, I'm only very distantly related to you folks, being mostly of Norwegian ancestry with some other stuff mixed in. So with dating, nobody would have to worry that I was related too closely. Is Iceland going to be an okay place to move to?

Sweden still ranks among the highest in peace, happiness, security and infrastructure indexes, even surpassing my very own America. I loved the point with the last names, but I must say, depending on the name it could bend. So for example ; Bjarki, it would be Bjarkadóttir, because Bjarkidóttir is not correct Icelandic. Same goes for me, my dad’s name is Tjörvi, which would make my last name Tjörvadóttir instead of Tjörvidóttir. Some people can also choose to take their mothers name, this is most of the time when the kid is born and the parents decide that the kid will take the mothers name but some people, including my friend, changed their last name from their fathers to their mothers! For example ; Guðrún, Guðrúnardóttir. Hope this helps! (If this is incorrect please tell me! Im pretty sure i am correct but if i made any mistakes please educate me on them❤️)

You can find a job in Iceland pretty easy there if you are into trades, travel or vacantion stuff or IT and you are from EU. People say nordic countries are expensive to live in (yes it's expensive but you gotta know that the pay it's A LOT more then it's in the EU). The key is you need to be qualified, learn the language of the country u wanna move (learning the language IS A MUST if you wanna settle there and if you wanna find a job) and you gotta find a job oportunity before moving to the place, seriously NEVER COME HERE TO SETTLE IF YOU ARE TRYING TO FIND A JOB, YOU WILL RUN OUT OF MONEY FASTER THEN NORWAY'S OIL, FIND A JOB OPORTUNITY FIRST NO MATTER WHAT. And BTW If you are from US or outside sorry but you gotta kiss your dreams goodbye cuz it's next to impossible to get citizenship there or any nordic countries if you are not Einstine or a god send worker. MIsspells probably.

Just everywhere where are good living standards. Although it's not bad here but being really satisfied costs huge effort and sometimes it's easier to emigrate. Plus if I considered emigration I would add conservative model of our government which I don't like (our society is like splited in this area). But it's still getting better.
@surrealsoul91207 жыл бұрын
Of course, I don't think you guys would mass emigrate to Africa or Asia. But still, around 8k Poles chose to move 3,000km away from their home, learn Icelandic and integrate into society there. That's insane!
@M3SPL7 жыл бұрын
Surreal Soul 8k is not mass emigration considering that we are 9th biggest populated country in Europe (including Turkey) and when you compare it to more than 2000k Poles in Germany it seems that it's not popular destination. I think it works like domino effect. Iceland is in EEA and English is well known there, unemployment is low plus we know what airplanes are ;)
@surrealsoul91207 жыл бұрын
I guess it's more surprising that Poles would choose Iceland. For me, 2000k in Germany is somewhat not surprising. Well, after visiting Iceland, some people just wanted to stay and work there :)

þ makes the voiceless th as in “thing” and ð makes the voiced th as in “the” and English used to have these letters until the Germans (who’s language lacks the th sound) invented the printing press. As someone who’s studied lots of languages, I have to say Icelandic isn’t that much harder than a scaled-up German. It’s easier than all of the Slavic languages for sure because of less noun cases to memorize. Definitely not one of the hardest in the world. Its syntax and many words are also similar to English because they’re both Germanic languages. Ég hef heyrt um þann skóla I have heard of that school
@gaevar666 жыл бұрын
Im from Iceland and man, are you correct about the language. Just for and example, the surname thing is way more complicated, Alex with a father named Bjarki would not be called Alex Bjarkison, he would be called Alex Bjarkason due to the fact that nouns "bend" in icelandic (yes, names are classed as nouns in icelandic). For example (again) Bjarki like all nouns bends in four ways Bjarki - Bjarka - Bjarka - Bjarka its way more complicated than this and even icelanders have a difficult time grasping all the linguistic rules (school was a nightmare!)
@andriandrason13186 жыл бұрын
Tell me about it :)
@johntate65376 жыл бұрын
Ah Icelandic, two numbers, three genders and four cases for every adjective! Vowel gradation and consonant mutation. Irregularity everywhere you look. It's right up there with languages like Finnish and Basque for unnecessary complexity. Really pretty though. I need to go back and brush up on some!

@@patxepi They both inherritaged the Norrøn language from Norwegian Vikings, and while modern Norwegian languages has been inflicted by Danish and modernisert compered to Island who kept it more to itself. The son or daugter endings of your sirname was more common in the rest of Scandinavian up to about 100 years ago. Still many names exist today, thought the daugter names disapered, and replaced with -sen in Denmark and Norway, and -son in Sweden. In Norway you would put the name of the farmes they came from after the -sen names, but to makes it better to familiouris the register just the farmnames would be used in modern times. My name would have been Gunnar Oddsen, but I only use Gunnar Kvinlaug since that was the name of the farm my family arrised from. English is littarly Norrøn with Latin influence, Frensh for the mostly.
