I think he actually decided to use his intelligence, which is not small, rather than the boy teenager staple stuff of verbal slapstick, shock semi-profanity, and extreme facial features. Years ago I found him mildly interesting, but could not understand why he was soooooo funny as many of my peers thought. If you remember the first Saturday Night Live, say Oct. 19, 1975, incidentally 2-3 days before the Red Sox famous game 6 at Fenway only to lose the World Series in game 7 to the Reds, he came out flat as a pancake ... nothing was working for him, or the Red Sox. At one point in the opening monologue, someone in the crowd heckled just a bit too close to home and Carlin lost his temper coming very close to argument mode with the patron. I believe the SNL audience was just too socially mature, intelligent, and hip to laugh at stuff he was, and had been using for a long time. I'm glad he got older and changed his delivery. He had a bit part in a 1968? movie called With Six You Get Eggroll with Doris Day etc. He was supposed to be funny, but I thought his character could have been completely removed and a better movie would have been left behind. I still don't think he's the greatest, but I also think his political commentary is his thing to watch and listen.

Not only a master of edgy viscous observational humor, but also a master at telling simple jokes. I love his earlier light hearted stuff, especially now that I am getting older and I am understanding the subtleties more. There's still an element in me that relates to his older standup that was angry and smart, but I think I have kind of moved past that and I find more humor and honesty in his and others absurd kind of stuff.

@MrAngusyoungistheman7 жыл бұрын
Killmetbh I used to think George was better as an old man, then I got older and realized that he was just a bitter, sad person with an extremely perverse superiority complex. I love his early stuff and he was perhaps the greatest stand-up in American history, but he was really a much better person when he was young and less hateful. One thing many people don't realize is that he was in very bad health near the end and spent a lot of time on painkillers, and people close to him suggested that he was also abusing alcohol at the time as well. Thankfully for him, the naive American public tends to look at these kind of people as "smart" or even "prophetic." Personally I believe he was aware of that, and I imagine he got off on it in some sense.

George Carlin Again! Is one of my favorite specials he did, his voice was so chill in his young days and that one is a blend of dry and dark.
@benm52216 жыл бұрын
name He wasn't prophetic, but was, at times, brutally insightful. The older and more jaded he became, the more over the top, creepy, shocking, dark, and occasionally perverse some of his material became. In my opinion, he did most of that to register and drive home serious points. He increasingly played to people that understood his sarcasm and the point of his exaggerations. He also cared less about what other people though, because he knew he was living on borrowed time, and he had legitimate and important observations to share. People who understand this about George, miss him even more now, but we are also happy for George that he's not here to suffer the trumpening of America. He would have popped aneurysms and had a stroke by now.

George was marketed as a comedian and, at first, he was...but then he became a sage, pointing out the flaws and foibles of our society. He was a bellweather and a good warning signal for predicting exactly how the information wars and government interference in our lives will be dominating us in the decades ahead. People who say "oh, he wasn't funny after 1990" are missing the genius of his observations and his ability to be a prophet for Humankind. Miss ya, George!!!

You made an excellent point RetroCaptain… Carlin decided in the late1960’s that he would tell it like it is. He used his humor and his rapid fire speaking skills to thumb his nose at the establishment. He got through to millions about how the globalists (upper 1 %) have back then, are doing now and will continue today to push their ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT. People are waking up to what he and Frank Zappa have been saying for over 40 years. I believe the world should have woken up a day after November 22, 1963.
