Joe Rogan is the most well known podcaster of all time, and in this video we'll use our Shure SM7B microphone and some plugins to emulate that podcast sound.
We'll use a noise gate, de-esser, eq, compressor, and limiter. I'll also show you the equipment you need like an audio interface with lots of pre-amp gain, and a separate pre-amp.
In this video we'll be using iZotope Nectar 3 for the majority of the production process, but I will also show how you can use separate plugins or a channel strip plugin to accomplish the same thing.
At the end of the video I'll show you a few more plugins that will make your audio sound even better than the Joe Rogan podcast!

Awesome vid Bro. Getting that 'Joe Rogan' sound seems to be the gold standard that most people on Forums and KZbin like to dissect and recreate. You sir have created what is sure to be THE video that everyone will definitely check out and learn a great deal from. My hats off to you. 🙂👍The other 'Holy Grail' that people like to try to emulate is Howard Stern's sound. Any chance we can get a video from you on trying to replicate the Howard Stern sound as close as possible using Nectar 3? I know that he uses high end mics and hardware, but it would be fun to see if you can reverse engineer his sound using Nectar 3. Anyway, once again, great job on the video.

It's true a lot of people want the Joe Rogan sound and this video will get you there, my personal preference is different and there will be a video on that in 2 days i think. For Howard Stern, most of his sound was a great large diaphragm condenser mic, speaking close to it for the proximity effect, and compression. Thanks for the view bro 🤘🤘

Great video. They get this sound in a live setting. So do they use Plug in the live recording?

I read that they use the UAD Apollo interface which has real time plug ins with zero-latency monitoring.

Do you have any advice for if I’m live-streaming, what programs etc
@BenoniStudio

Depends on what you are using to live stream. Some app allow you to use VSTs while streaming. Or if you audio interface has on-board DSP you may be able to use plugins that way. Or you could use something like Gig Performer to host the plugins, route your mic through Gig Performer, and take that output into OBS or something. Or, get some outboard hardware...compressor/gate, eq, etc...

does this work on the at2020 as well? i am aware that u have a seperate video on the at2020 but i prefer the more compressed broadcast sound like this one. so if i use the exact same thing here, eill it work?
@BenoniStudio

It will be similar, but the low end response will be different with the AT2020 as will the top end.

If I have these settings with Nectar 3, can I also use this sound for streaming or that my people can hear me in Teamspeak like that or is it only for the post production?
@fineresolve1540
@fineresolve1540 4 жыл бұрын
you can use it for streaming as well. just record a recording of yourself and edit with this. make sure you place your edit in a effects chain or a rack, i'm sure every DAW has one.Once you get the sound you want, you can save the rack or the chain. and then you use a virtual cable as your output from your DAW and use that same virtual cable as an input in teamspeak or whatever streaming platform you use. Don't forget to turn on the monitor setting in your DAW. So essentially the live monitoring of your audio is gonna go through the processing chain or rack in your DAW and since you are using a virtual cable as an output, the processed live monitoring will output the sound to that cable and then you use that as an input for your streaming software. essentially your DAW becomes a mixer. be aware though that because this is the monitoring from you DAW and not directly from your interface, there will be some delay that really just depends on the DAW itself, your processing power and the buffer size,etc.

To get that Joe Rogan sound you need to starting investing in a Behringer Xenyx mixer like he uses in the show. Unfortunately at minimum a single channel of this kind will knock you back nearly 40 smackers so you may have to sell your car.
