I really wish would talk a bit more about how harmful misandry is, especially when it is directed at children. I feel like most of us associate the target to be some super privileged macho man (or some weak man that garners even less empathy) and think it's either "not real" or "not a real issue." But my issue has always been with the boys that get affected by it. I remember being a teenager and seeing boys around me get bombarded with the whole casual misandry thing that was a trend on social media back then. Most people dont see how they get affected by these things, it's really only something you see if you are somewhat close to them and speak with them every day.

Speaking about how it affects boys would maybe shift the tone of the discussion from the natural state of being critical of men to that of empathy (at least I would hope so). Asking for empathy for men has proven to be a difficult point to argue in the past, unfortunately.

I don't think it's acceptable at any level though. I was a very sensitive kid and when I walked in on my mother sharing an embarrassing story that I specifically told her to never tell anyone about, I felt so mortified and betrayed. Children deserve dignity, even when they're too young to understand the concept.

I’m pretty sure kids can be manipulative if they want to be, especially over their parents. But it’s usually predicated upon the parents having that behavior so naturally the child picks up on it and then learns how to do it. It’s usually not something you’re born with.

@neonhalos8 ай бұрын
highly unlikely they'd do much other than a quick visit, and that's if they've got a particularly low case load (which almost never happens). CPS is one of the most underfunded depts and they simply do not have the time, resources, or staff to go and investigate every single instance of a parent saying dumbass shit online. nothing she said would indicate to a CPS official that she *must* be abusing the kid at home. she said tasteless, trashy things, but there isn't a "smoking gun" that would tell a CPS dept that she needs to be deeply investigated beyond a quick cursory glance, if that. think of it this way: they're stretched incredibly thin as it is and need to pick and choose by severity and urgency. let's say they get a set of cases that come in around the same time. one case where one child has documented evidence by a third party (such as a teacher) that they come to school with unexplained bruises and other suspicious symptoms that could indicate abuse (shyness, avoidance, etc). the other case is about a mom complaining online about their kid getting sick at school and needing to pick them up and how it's an inconvenience for them and their sex life. there's no indication that abuse is occurring. there's no indication that she's neglecting her child outside of exaggerated "jokes" (which are in poor taste and not funny, but that's beside the point). now imagine that there are hundreds of cases like the first one and a handful of cases like the second one. which do you think the CPS agents are going to prioritize? CPS has a high agent turnover rate due to burnout. they cannot keep people on staff most of the time. they also have a constant flow of reports from people who either have good intentions but are misinformed, who are overreactive and making assumptions (such as a kid genuinely getting scuffed up while playing vs actually being smacked around), or who are reporting maliciously (mostly in cases of separated parents who want to exact some sort of "revenge" on their former spouse), all mixed in with genuine cases of abuse. as a result, shit often does get overlooked because of prioritization. they're naturally going to want to address a case which has hard, documented evidence of abuse vs conjecture and assumptions based on social media posts with no images or video indicating that any abuse is actually occurring. is it possible or even likely by this woman's behavior that she's a bad mom? i believe it. but being a bad mom is not the same as being abusive enough for CPS to truly intervene. CPS needs more than just tasteless, mean jokes to go off of. they need evidence that the child is in serious danger or harm *physically* in most cases. if all of that makes your blood boil, i have a solution for you: contact your local representative in your government and urge them to help funnel more funding towards CPS. the more funding CPS gets, the better it will be for children everywhere. cases that would normally be deprioritized may actually get the attention they need if CPS had more funding to do it in a prompt manner.

Having a pathological narcissist is one of the most damaging things for a child. It typically leads to some degree of narcissistic maternal abuse and emotional neglect. The kid grows up to have serious anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, and problems with interpersonal skills. I studied this for my master's degree.
