Good points on both sides and a worthy conclusion - it really is up to the individual whether you want to get married or not, I do think it can become dangerous to fixate on marriage as a goal rather than an add-on to your life with the person you love. The legal aspects don't hurt but defacto can offer similar protection depending on where you are. One thing though, I think discussing finances and housing is part of being in a healthy relationship if you're sharing a home!

That was really entertaining to watch, thanks! There are really valid reasons on both sides on whether being married is a good thing. That said, I do find it interesting that my perspective changed as I got older. As long as I could remember till my really late 20s, I thought marriage was just a piece of paper. But I am now happily married (no wedding, save that money XD) and I do think that if you find the right person, your life can be significantly be more meaningful and joyous. Ultimately, I don't think marriage is a worthy goal in life, BUT, becoming a human that is worthy enough for that special person to want to marry you is a worthier goal ;)

I think a lot of people just realise that marriage isn’t the end all be all in life, especially exploring the world and consuming media that shows alternative relationships/ideologies. That being said, I do feel it is wrong to only allow couples for them to afford subsidised houses (in the hopes they birth kids and grow the population) when nowadays isn’t the case. I personally would love to get married but I don’t think there are good options for women who are strong & independent (which is a topic for another day). If it is meant to be, it will be.

If you really look back into history, marriage has a sacred and spiritual significance. It is a relatively modern concept for marriage to be merely seen as a practical arrangement.
@clarissalin72122 жыл бұрын
Lol. No la. Marriage was always a practical arrangement. Political diplomacy among royalties, improving social status for most, finding a child bearer and someone to take care of the home for others. The idea of romance and love big the primary reason is the more modern perspective.

Marriage is a form of responsibilities, self sacrifice, give in, understanding........ so much more, even after nearly 25 years of marriage, there are still so much more to learn from the other half and our children, thankfully I have a happy marriage, maybe it looks like a glass water, simple and humble, it gives me so much satisfaction to be a better self.

All of us have a great desire to fulfill a longing in our hearts. To find our purpose, to have an encounter with something so beautiful and wonderful. Hence, many of us seek out spirituality, religion, and self-actualization. This goes beyond marriage. Hence, marriage should not be seen as a goal or as an achievement to strive for. Instead, marriage should be properly discerned as good, true, and beautiful for both parties. Marriage will only satisfy part of our hearts, it will never satisfy everything.

If its not because of my religion and my belief, I don’t think marriage is necessary for everyone. To me, both partners must have the same goals at life. The downside is that we’re living in Singapore where housing is an issue for single people like us. Even then, some of us still unable to afford housing. Working together towards positiveness and care are fundamentals for a happy marriage. I’m single …but I still hope for a partner that can truly be the ONE. Divorce happens but…thats okay. Life still moves on

Marriage is not an end-goal or anything to do with love. It is a bond between families, property management and child rearing necessity. Necessary at this current era? Where legitimacy of a child holds less stigma, or messy when couples decide they cannot tolerate each other? Don't think so.
