gotta love 50F days in January!!
getting out in waves is different for every wind direction. we see some nice conditions with offshore winds around, I figured I'd talk though the process, as it's different than onshore, side shore, shorepound, etc.
it's not really a tutorial, more suggestions that I have in my personal playbook.
I pair this with some bigger waves, walls of white water, a super high tide, the new-ish HA880 and my NEW 140 Dart stab. the stab made my sesh a little weird, a little frustrating but whenever I focused on changing my stance and got that right, I was having a decent time. next sesh I'm moving the mast more forward. second sesh on the 880 and it was really nice. I started to unlock the pumping power.
gear ridden this sesh:
75L v1 Armie FG board
HA880 foil
795 HM mast
60 fuse
140 dart stab (red shim, next time going red and blue)
5:4 Mahulu Stormrider wetsuit
Kaohi double coil grip leash & padded belt
Glacier Gloves
Solites 8mm booties

haha no way! yeah we've had some great waves lately. one day was so big and the tides so high, all the roads within 5 miles of Nahant were closed so I had to find another place to have a sesh. but been getting some good sessions in... I hope the cold doesn't stick around too long! Hope all is well and I wish you an awesome weekend!

thanks bud. I'm sure I could ride with anyone who watches this channel and they'd still be surprised how much I fall. and working the camera all the time seriously messes me up twice as much. so it doesn't feel right not including wipeouts and struggle. stoked people appreciate that. I like keeping it real :) I wish you an amazing week ahead!

Shore break truly sucks. It’s a weekly challenge here and I always dread it. Last session out I got between the board and the beach (never do that), a big wave broke over me and slammed the foil into my thigh.That was a week ago and I’m just now starting to feel better. Shore break is no joke.

oh man totally. I'd say I've gotten better at shorebreak but it's always a crapshoot involving luck and a willingness to potentially break gear :P usually worth it. dude, sucks about your thigh! I hope it's getting better. thankfully it didn't puncture anything! I hope you get back out there soon and I wish you an awesome day!!

Absolute class a great walkthrough of what to do, personally i do all the things you do however my last session i misjudged the wind strength to wave size ratio did not go out in strong enough winds so when i finally got to my feet after 60 waves on my head. no amount of pumping the wing could get me on foil in the 5ft 7 sec swell. Eventually had to swim back in a long 40 mins later i got in, what a hard day but its all part of the game and another lesson learned .It's hard to get in when there is no wind but waves and your on a -5 liter board my technique kooky lay on it holding wing up best i could but mainly just swam throwing wing over the white water haha . shame about your 5.5m however soon it will be sewn up and back on the water . Another loverly video it looked a awesome wave when you got out .hope that you you fam and crew have a awesome week my friend.

thank so much bud, I always appreciate yr words! woof, that sesh sounds rough (and all too familiar). so many things happened this day, I couldn't include them all without being a 30 min vid. but twice I tried to get out and the wind went down to like 10 both times and I got screwed. it's only when the wind picked back up again that I had a little more of a chance. so many waves to the dome!! I hope it's not as cold in your parts as it is here. def taking the week off! maybe a paddle sesh but at least I have a session or two in the cans. hope all is well bud, I wish you and the fam a lovely weekend!!

yeeeooowww! thanks bud! appreciated. yup getting out totally sucks sometimes. persistence pays off for sure. I'm pretty good at it in general (luck is huge) but it's only cause I've done it a lot. tons of fails. multiple sessions I've broken my wing trying to get out, thus ending my sesh before it even starts. that's why I like a quiver that's about a meter apart, in case you shred one, you may have a wing that could possible work to save yr session cause it's only a meter off. and yeah, lineup was all mine, and a few surfers. I had 6-8 kite friends out there too but they just played in the shallows... I'm there to ride the vert, they like the smooth stuff in 6in of water. I get it, but a waste of good waves! thanks bud I wish you an awesome rest of your weekend!

yeah there was something about these conditions that made it harder than normal. I think it was the incoming super tide and decent sized waves that made these higher-than-normal walls of whitewater. I had a decent 2 hour sesh but at one point I def questioned how I was gonna get in. first attempt I was overtaken by a wave (at end of this vid) and got stuck in a BAD spot. ripped the wing. headed back out and tried to time it better with a lull in the waves, which worked. unfortunately my gopro has been acting up and somewhere under 40% battery it shuts off after 8 seconds. so I'm riding sick waves thinking I'm getting footage and I'm not. it's been a frustrating last couple of sessions. but hey, I've been getting stoked, can't complain. thanks aquaman I wish you and yr crew an awesome weekend!

sweet dude! I'm stoked for you! and the fact you are coming from the 72... that mast has only helped make you a better rider, but going to a 935 is gonna super cool and prolly a little weird for a few sessions. I went 795, my buddy went 935, we both ride kinda the same and we both love what we got. the new HM stuff is an upgrade for sure. LMK what you think!!
@antocarroll
@antocarroll 6 ай бұрын
First session on 935 on Monday. Conditions were normal choppy, messy wind swell. Couldn’t believe the difference to the 72. Everything was so much easier - foot switches, gybes and tacks. Rode for whole session without breaching…on the 72 I was breaching regularly. Definitely worth the big expenditure…now need to try and swell my old kit. Thanks for comments…keep up the great vids, love watching them.

Dude that was rad, it's awesome to see you doing battle out there. I am riding the HA 880 and have recently been trying the Dart, I typically use the Speed 180. I have found the Dart definitely makes the 880 easier to roll over and turn but it feels a lot "softer" when I try to pump, like there just isn't as much to push against there and I can feel it. I am just a beginner so I can't really give you too much insight beyond that, but I do think that moving it forward in the track makes sense. Loving your vids man, thanks for sharing the stoke! YEW!

sweet bud, thank you! I've been checking out your channel, digging what I've seen so far, keep it up. inspiring me to paddle my dw board and even dabble in prone. I've used the dw board with the 880 and it's really nice. I don't have a lot of pumping experience, but finally the 880 feels easy and natural to pump, right off the bat. def gonna get a 1080 for that board, I thought I'd love the 1675 but so awkward to turn and the pumping doesn't feel the same as these new HAs. and I did end up moving the 140 up more and the next sesh was like night and day, I love the 140/880 combo now. talk soon, and I wish you an awesome day!

I rode it after this sesh with a reb and a blue and I think I put it at 10 or 11... it solved all my issues. I love the dart, and I LOVE the HA880!! new level unlocked last sesh. so stoked on it. I'd sell the MA1000 but I think it reenters the water way better... more testing to follow on that. I need to loosen my straps a little more cause my feet don't totally fit in with my 8mm booties. the 680 should arrive any day now... what else have you tried again?

@@OCEANBOUND1awesome! I’m going to give the RB combo a try. I tried the 50Fuse and 880 a try in some very short period thigh high wind chop, it really loosened it up even more, but glide may have been hit a bit. I’ve got the 680/880/1080 combo and the 600/800/1000MAs. I agree on the reentry point with the MAs, which is big reason why I’m keeping them.

@@OCEANBOUND1 oh sick! Can’t wait for your thoughts on the 780 v 680. I just had a light wind day and went 680 to 1080 to 880 to apf1675, all with the same 5M, 6.3 DW board and 140 dart. The 1080 is sorta between the 1125 and 1325 feels, probably closer to the 1325 in terms of speed. Super slow stall speed. Turns better than 1325. Really nice cruiser for small bumps or small waves, or light wind.

@OCEANBOUND1
@OCEANBOUND1 6 ай бұрын
thanks bud!! to be clear, this is not really shorepound. these waves are breaking farther out, and the floor of the ocean here is super gradual. sometimes I think shorepound is easier, cause you can time it more from shore. but shorepound is full of it's own little x-factors that make it super difficult (and dangerous). and I like that idea about the name change... not really looking for tons of views but happy to make it easier for people looking for help in the subject. so it would prolly make more sense to mention whitewater. I like to add winging to the names but I don't like super long names, so I put it in the pic instead. but I may rename it, and if I get 100k views on this video, I'll come visit you and we can shred together! thanks bud, I wish you an awesome weekend!
