Who thought a video about trimming emerged stemmed plants could be so entertaining and informative. I probably would have left it for another 1/2 week - I'm a wimp, it breaks my heart to destroy such natural health, but George you are right you must trim, too little circulation can lead to pockets of water of such low quality that fish can develop fungus. George stick with a four foot - but let me tell you, my rear access tank is a lot harder to trim and retain such aesthetic balance.

This is absolutely the guidance the not so skilled scapers, like myself needs. However, I am wondering if you could give a short tutorial about the different plant maintenance. I. e. trimming vs. topping. I am quite often confused when to just trim a plant and when to cut and plant the top part back into the soil. Regarding the Tropica scissors, I have to admit that I just gave away mine. For people (gals for example) with small hands, they are difficult to work with. If Tropica would consider selling them with insertable rings (a plastic or rubber ring that fits inside the finger and thumb rings to make the holes smaller to custom fit a hand), making the finger rings smaller, that would be a huge thing.

Hi George, nice video tonight, good tip from Jurijs, will remember that when I give my new tank it's first trim 😉 , luckily it's in perfect condition at the moment. Your tank is looking really beautiful at the moment and the different fish top it off perfectly. Thanks as always.

@c.a.s48224 жыл бұрын
Wow, amazing aquascape! But I got a little curious... Why didn't you replant the best parts of the cut offs? Is it because you are already satisfied with how dense they are?

Star Grass Heteranthera zosterifolia makes a good groundcover for the larger aquaria George. Interesting that its sold as tall bunch plant...but cut those stems into thirds and plunge into the substrate and it thrives. Thrives so well,you have to pinch it back about every other week. I do it with the water change,and replant the cuttings as I like the look so far. That Tropica Hygrophila is new to me. It could pass for Rotala Hra. Very nice.

Always enjoy your videos. I had aquariums as a child and into my twenties. It was something I really enjoyed but haven’t done it since about 22. I’m now in my early 40’s and want to pick it back up and aquascape . I know you’ve probably addressed this but there’s so many videos, it’d take forever to find out your answer. Used to, pet stores insisted a hood kept fish from jumping out but you don’t use one. Does that ever happen to you?

Hi George, thanks for replying to my last asked questions very few a/tubers ever do. What an extremely useful tip drawing marker on the glass to shape your scape. With that do you draw on each seen or scape viewable side. In other words do you draw on front sides etc to guide you or just front for an idea? Obvious question I know just unsure looking for reassurance. Regards Duzzy from 🇦🇺
@GeorgeFarmerStudios4 жыл бұрын
Definitely draw on the sides too if you like! 👍

Hey George this is eye pleasing, kudos to you. Quick Q: do you bring down the fertilizer dosing after a large trim. I remember that you use 20 ml tropica fert daily on this one...

When are you going to live that kessil life again ? I’ve ordered 360x. I went from kessil to aqua sky and I missed having complete access to the tank that the kessil provides. I also miss The shadows and the shimmer.

Where did you get the long intake lily pipe with the skimmer built in? The ones I've seen available here in the states online are all the same brand and they are not very long, so in a larger (taller) tank like this the intake will only be about half way down the wall of the aquarium. Your videos have helped me start in this hobby so thank you!

What's your top 3 easiest stem plants to grow in lowest of light and NON CO2 tank? I've struggled for the longest time with hygrophilas siamensis 53B in my fluval flex. No matter what I do to this supposedly 'easy' plants, they just sort of rot away after a month or so :(
