Ghostface traileer has now dropped, and honestly as the guest I was sorta least excited for I gotta say NRS has blown away my expectations. Not only making "just a dude with a knife" seem really fun gameplay wise, but also using him as a vehicle to help technically return some long-gone characters as well? Quality stuff all around. We also got some balance change previews as well in the video(timestamped natch, leave a like for timestamps) and looks like more fun changes are on the way!

Loved this movie series growing up. I think its a really good conceptualization of the character despite his limited martial arts abilities. Two forgotten old characters surprising you as being a secret ghostface killer is a meta reference to the movies where its usually a character that you’ve forgotten about which in of itself is a meta META reference as the movies love making meta references lol

Over the years I have always gotten heat for my staunch stance defending Guest characters in fighting games, and its days like this that always makes me laugh cause it always turns into "well I don't like guest characters... BUT". The greatest haters always convert in the end, they just haven't found their guest character yet. When I started editing the vid that tweet had 10k likes, then processing it had 18k likes, now posting this it has 26k(edit, 27k now seconds after posting) likes. I totally agree, guest characters especially in NRS fighting games in general have always been across the board amazing and I was hoping we’d get Ghostface in a modern MK game at some point because I’m a huge fan of the movie series he comes from and I can’t believe by tomorrow evening he will be out and I will start learning the game as him and you know what, I’m still holding out hope that we will get my personal favorite slasher icon Michael Myers as a guest character and honestly, the possibility of that in either a later DLC pack for this game or even in whatever the next game is called, it doesn’t seem too far off honestly from coming true since we got Ghostface and I didn’t think that would happen and it did.

I am one of the voices who criticizes guest characters, but they did it really smart with Ghostface. Kira and Kobra would never, *ever* appear in a Mortal Kombat Game again. They're not cool, they're not infamous enough like Hsu Hao. So having them as super-powered Ghostfaces not only fits with Scream, but with Mortal Kombat. They would absolutely work together with him, they're murderous scum. And if guest characters would work more like that, a celebration of both franchises? I'd be alot happier with them.

The only reason they won't appear again is because NRS doesn't want to go through the effort of redesigning them to actually make them cool. I didn't think Movado would come back either but at least he's a Kameo. Shoehorning Kobra and Kira into a Ghostface crossover isn't really respectful or fitting, even if those characters did suck, show that you're willing to give them a fresh coat of paint and try again instead of just going for the crossover bucks.

Guest characters have to clear a ridiculously high bar for me to want to play them, and Ghostface might be the first one in any game to do it! Throwbacks to older MK characters that would be hard to justify coming back in full is so cool, and that fake out fatality is phenomenal! @natman2939 Good question! Guest characters by their very nature just feel wrong to me. I accept that they sell so many copies and I'm happy they are here to support the series. But no matter how true to their source material or how well designed they are, my brain just doesn't like the presence of characters from other IPs. I love the Alien franchise and I can appreciate conceptually how sick the Xenomorph was designed in MKX. But in practice it couldn't overcome my distaste for guest characters. I'm hoping Ghostface will clear that bar for me because 1)The character has explicit MK DNA, 2)The fatality is so cool I want to do it again and again, and 3)I have never really interacted with the Scream franchise so Ghostface doesn't exist in my mind that clearly as a character outside of MK. Is it all a touch hypocritical? Yeah, probably. And to be honest I'll likely be back to Kenshi and Rain and Sindel within a couple weeks.

I think fighting games really shine when they manage to succesfully convert a non martial artist into a fighting game character. Phoenix Wright from Marvel 3, Steve in Smash Ultimate (in terms of gameplay integration specifically) and Ghostface here is another one to add to the list (there's plenty of other examples i just can't think of any off the top of my head right now).

I love that both dbd and mk1 don’t just adapt ghost face 1 for 1, but more so integrated them into the worlds of their respective games. Dbd invented a brand new more serious version of ghost face that fits in the world of dbd, and mk1 has the other two ghost faces be actual characters that already existed in the mortal kombat world that simply took up the mantel of ghost face, just like how multiple people take up the mantle in the movies. Helps with the adaptation process to make the character feel more “at home” rather than just taking ghost face from the first scream movie and throwing them into mk1, which would’ve been much easier.

I actually like how Neather Realm tried to give Billy some ways to fight against the people of Mortal Kombat by paring him with people who know how to fight these guys while ALSO giving some old MK people some time in the spotlight. I think the other two Ghosties being from the Black Dragon was actually a really nice touch, gives our boy a fighting chance against the martial artist masters and LITERAL gods and godlike beings. When I get this games, he's EASILY going to be the character I try first.

Tbh if I hope MK keeps adding horror themed characters to their games it just fits so well and now with the case of Ghostface they are able to seamlessly combine both the elements from the Scream franchise as well as elements from previous MK games since the other two Ghostface killers in the game are previously forgotten MK characters so overall more horror characters is a must for future MK games plus start introducing characters from different horror games would be cool

I’m glad that Ghostface looks like fun for being the most “untrained” character we probably have ever had in Mortal Kombat. A great tribute to the Scream series and love that we are slowly seeing characters from the 3D era start to show up more and more. Tsu Hao is coming eventually. But yeah, while I did see some people show interest in Ghostface, the next one has my full attention. How the hell do you make the T-1000 playable in MK1? And how do you exactly kill a living liquid? Or hell, bones for that matter… either way, going to be a fun time when we see him pop up.

Sub zero didn't need buffs. He is already one of best zoning characters. You can't zone him because he punish you with armor slide on reaction and you will defend a 50/50 safe mix up. You can't jump him since he punish it with ice clone or armor slide. Corner pressure with ice clone another trouble. I don't know what to do against a good sub player. Maybe we need a guide about it.
