I was going to cut this video in half to make two shorter vids,..... but I didn't & I think or I hope you'll understand why when you watch it.
This is an open string staircase that was going to have Oak treads & painted risers, but it was decided that Oak maybe wasn't going to look right, customers choice, so we decided to use Ash which is cheaper but also paler in colour so we would be able to stain it, it turned out we used Oak stain :) ,
The Ash boards were planed flat & square, then joined together with a finger jointing router cutter, glued together with PU fast setting glue & cut to size with a Makita cordless plunge cut track saw.
The top & middle of the strings are propped with timber, the side is plywood mitred to the risers, at the top & the bottom will be a floor to ceiling 30mm steel balustrade/frame, I've got a vid coming showing welding & fitting those,
I also bought a HiKOKI M3612DAJPZ 36V 5.0/2.5Ah Li-Ion 1/2In Brushless cordless Router which needed some adjustment to increase the plunge depth, I've got another vid to come showing how I made it fit a spiral router cutter.

I don't make these videos to make money or out of vanity, I make them to share the tips I've learnt over 40yrs as a joiner, but filming, editing, exporting, reviewing & uploading does take a lot of time, so if you have gained/learnt anything from any of my videos & would like to thank me or help me out you can show your appreciation by donating & pls clicking the PayPal link below, it has a card details option if you don't have a PayPal account, every little helps & will be much appreciated. Hi, sorry I haven't replied to many comments on my last vid about the Little stair door, I've read them all & I'm very grateful to you all, thankyou😊👍but I thought you would prefer I spend my time editing & uploading the footage I have from 2022. So here's one of a few that'll I'll be putting together, It's a bit long but my options were to leave it as is or cut it up into 2, there wasn't a natural break point so I left it as one long one, 👍,

Good to see you back mate, I had some health issues at the beginning of the year, so I know what it feels like when you can get back at it. That hikoki router didn’t seem all that either, I see Milwaukee have got one on the market now. All the best

Thanks much appreciated 👍 Yeah it's not good getting poorly, I've never really got sick so I suppose when I finally did it had to be 'a good un' 😂 I'm very tempted by the Makita ½" cordless but it's just come out, £500+ tho, AliExpress has it for £291 which is suspiciously cheap 🤔 Maybe when I've money going spare I'll be tempted but for now this Hikoki will do ok & to be honest I wasn't expecting it to be as good as a Makita but as I say it seems ok (after being adjusted)it'll do the job, Time will tell. Keep well yourself 👍

Gid great to see you back at what you do best, I always enjoy your videos very much and the practical advise you give is outstanding, a real world take on what a highly skilled joiner like yourself can achieve not like a lot of youtubers who only want to show what they are doing in their own properties. looking forward to seeing more of those videos you have stored on your PC.💪

Thankyou, much appreciated 👍 Yep, I stopped watching a lot of YT videos, I don't mind amateurs who are genuine about their skill level showing what they've been doing or learning, but finding someone who isn't an amateur in his pristine double garage trying to teach something he really doesn't know anything about is hard to find. I'm glad you recognise that, 👍 I'll get the rest of the clips from 2022, there's still a few to come & then we'll have to see how this yr goes, but I'm slowly getting back to work & ave every intention of carrying on filming & uploading when I can 👍

Did they not want a handrail installing as well? End result looks great! If it was my project i'd get some use out of the metal frame, make a coat rack out of it, but I prefer things to be functional rather than look nice!!
@Gidjoiner
@Gidjoiner 8 ай бұрын
Thanks, glad you like it 👍 Nope, a handrail was discussed but they decided against, the plan was to see how it goes but so far not a mention of it, The concept of this whole build is minimal, straight, sq & uncluttered.

Nice one. Too bad you didn't get too finish the wardrobe when you were so far into the project. I've been looking at a 1/2" cordless router. We're mostly on the Makita platform and that one will come out right around now, I think I'll wait for that one. The Hikoki looks good and the Milwaukee too, with the strap for one handed operation. Good luck on starting everything back up again. No easy feat after a long slumber.

Thanks much appreciated 👍 Yeah this was 2 yrs ago & I would've preferred a Makita but I don't think they were available, in fact I think this was the only option then., Looking online £500-ish for a Makita bare, Ali Express has one for £291.00, bit suspicious how cheap that is & I can't see if it's a return or.., I'm very tempted to buy one but keep telling myself I now have 5 routers & this one does the job 😂 Do like Makita tho so I'll prob end up buying one, it's in my wish list 🤦‍♂️😂 PS they have it listed as a "Rechargeable Polishing Machine" 😂🤦‍♂️ www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006974458486.html?src=google&src=google&albch=shopping&acnt=708-803-3821&slnk=&plac=&mtctp=&albbt=Google_7_shopping&albagn=888888&isSmbAutoCall=false&needSmbHouyi=false&albcp=17858129175&albag=&trgt=&crea=en1005006974458486&netw=x&device=c&albpg=&albpd=en1005006974458486&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwr7ayBhAPEiwA6EIGxG8kG5Wbu747gIuBri-8AZB1WB4E2mr6X9XYn1Ke6oMqmnqLJFyENRoC-UoQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds&aff_fcid=73285c654280472c8ddb3bd97c638433-1716371022384-02974-UneMJZVf&aff_fsk=UneMJZVf&aff_platform=aaf&sk=UneMJZVf&aff_trace_key=73285c654280472c8ddb3bd97c638433-1716371022384-02974-UneMJZVf&terminal_id=019a94574eb34435bb680130b384f5e4&afSmartRedirect=y

@@GidjoinerThe Hikoki was the only one then. They made a smart move with that one, probably got quite a few people on their battery platform. I think the Makita would be a bit redundant for you when you have the Hikoki already, they look quite similar. But far be it from me to talk sense into someone that has seen a shiny new toy for sale.
@Gidjoiner

Yeah, my old ½" Makita still runs well but is 110v so I have to take the transformer with me, The Dewalt I have is 240v (I only work in people's houses now or in the shed) but I'm not keen on that, bit bulky & feels a bit cheap, 2 little corded & cordless Makita trimmers & this Hikoki ½", unless this breaks I think that'll do,.... Until I have money to burn 😂

A war and Peace job LOL. You got there in the end. When the guy was walking down the stairs, wow the tread looked very narrow. Hot in the workshop??? Get used to it.. Global worming LOL. On a serious note. You are better wearing a thin cotton T shirt and letting your sweat evaporate. You will be a bit cooler. It can get up to 112f in my workshop. I have a couple of big wall fans and drink lots of water. When I'm doing a static job at my bench, I have a mobile patio A/C that I have blowing across my back. I know different circumstances. But heat is my biggest problem.
@Gidjoiner
@Gidjoiner 8 ай бұрын
Yep, I have a few thin T shirts but can never find them so last yr not being too well I bought a load more, luckily we don't get the heat problem too much here, not that high anyway 👍 The stairs yeah were a bit of a pain to fit within the space allotted but were just within regs ("Minimum Going: 220mm") Inspector didn't say anything & I didn't bring it up 😉, there was a kite winder at the top on the orig staircase that got removed so that didn't stick down into the room below reducing the Going length & the wall at the bottom couldn't be moved to increase that, also the bottom tread's nosing just before the new kite winder had to be below 2m to a bulkhead that's directly above that new kite winder, tight squeeze but it just fit.
