Give Me An Answer with Stuart & Cliffe Knechtle

Күн бұрын

Cliffe Knechtle has a great conversation with college students at a campus in the southwest US.
The "Give Me An Answer" ministry began as an outgrowth of the dialogues Cliffe Knechtle has had with students on various university campuses throughout the United States. These universities include the University of Maine, Harvard, MIT, University of Florida, University of Texas, University of Wisconsin, University of Minnesota, University of California Los Angeles, University of California San Diego, Berkeley, Stanford, University of Hawaii and the University of Washington. Cliffe spoke on these campuses in front of the Student Union or Library at noon for five to ten minutes. At the close of his initial remarks, he'd open up the time for questions and answers, which usually turned into a two to four hour dialogue with students. His crowd size ranged from 25 - 500 students at a time, and between classes, new students would join the discussion. This is an extremely effective way to reach a large number of university students with the Gospel of Christ.

nadoeloiskat... Could be. But for me, it was science and reason that solidified my faith rather than drawing me away. It forced me to do my homework. My high school biology teacher taught macro-evolution as fact rather than theory. One day, after he crushed a Christian in front of us all with the threat of a bad grade if he disagreed with that theory, I felt frustrated... like Christians hadn't a chance. I almost got angry with God and denied him out loud on my way out the door. But just as quickly, upon hearing myself, I took it back and realized that the teacher was wrong, not God. I shoukd have been angry at the teacher. I vowed to search for the truth, even if it took a lifetime. I got a D- grade for disagreeing with the teacher and I had to retake the class in order to make it count toward college. The next biology teacher was a Christian. I received a B+ grade from him. Had I not gotten sick and missed so much, I would have gotten an A+. We covered macro-evolution, but it was taught as theory, and the teacher didn't threaten his students. He was patient and respected everyone's personal beliefs. God sent me the right people when I needed them most, like Joe Lessin, father of Roy Lessin, founder of Day Spring Greeting Cards. Joseph was my tutor and mentored me in college. He was Jewish like me and wrote his biography about coming to America. He prayed for a long time for his sons, who eventually believed. His other son became a Missionary in Mexico. Joseph is with the Lord now. What a patient, joyful man. I wish I had spent more time listening to him.

nadoeloiskat... Exactly... Science and the Bible don't contradict each other at all. I love science and I love God. They go together. The people I mentioned were my friends. Joseph passed away years ago. But His son Roy sells a book about his Father on the Day Spring website here: www.dayspring.com/sons-from-afar-the-true-story-of-roy-lessin-s-father?gclid=CJS7laae%255F9ACFUU7gQodaUkL7Q I think a movie could easily be made about his life.

@@invisibleinkling1474 I want you to know that I read your comments and it is absolutely astonishing how God even works thru time, thru the timing of your comment 4 years ago, to my inner thoughts of just the last week or so. I heard the word "Dayspring" in a worship song the other week. Some how, that Suttle word has been stayed in my mind, and of course one of the first cultural relevant things I thought was "huh... I wonder if Dayspring cards have anything to do with the Biblical word form of it.." So that is to say, I thought of that, and lo and behold here is a wonderful peice of knowledge from you... and to hear you actually met the family, or was tutored by the father of the man who made them? Wow. Praise God. You mentioned you're Jewish decent. I encourage you to read the Gospels if you haven't already! And the Old testament prophecies of how Jesu Christ is! I'm amazed by how many unbelievers think that it's consistent to think that Jesus is just a good teacher and not the Son of God. If Jesus is not the Son of God, then He was either one of the most irrational people in the history of the world, or He was one of the worst false prophets to have ever lived. Either Jesus is the Son of God, or He was either crazy or a liar. As C.S. Lewis said, the idea that He was a good teacher and not the Son of God is nonsense.

At about 19:00 Cliffe says "ultimately, it doesn't matter if you're a doctor or a terrorist according to your worldview if you don't believe in God, it's all relative". Well, I'd disagree with that, it matters a great deal to those around us how we choose to live our lives, our actions have consequences which can have massive repercussions to those around us. Obviously, the difference between a terrorist and a doctor are massive in terms of their effect on others. Yes, you could argue that in a billion years time or when the earth has run it's course it made no difference, but we don't live our lives like that, we live in the now, whatever actions we do now affect others, and that does matter a lot. Far better to help than to hinder our species.
