Please use some additional PPE when working on rusty or clean sheet metal… lots of very sharp edges, protrusions that can bite you… gloves and a long sleeve shirt to protect your hands and arms would be good start. Love your channel and projects 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

The way you both work together is as much of a drawcard to me as the cool cars you build together. The enthusiasm you have, Liv, is amazing and Danny, your approach to teaching Liv is great to see. You guys are awesome. The charger looks great even with the one new quarter. Can't wait to see it progress. I'm replacing the trunk floor in my 72 t/a, and you're right there doing this! Imma keep watchin' from New Zealand!😎🤙

Wire brush the spotwelded area. The spotwelds become visible after doing so. And cleaning this area is prerequisite before welding again. Good luck

You could have helped > Chris birdsong < by giving him the left over sail panel for one of his charger's. He's currently making a 1969 charger Daytona and that whole area was gone someone cut it out with a torch. You could look at his video's as he has worked on many 1968 69 70 for pointer's. You have to wire wheel the spot welds so u can see them clearly. If u had a big piece of cardboard makes it easier to clean up pick it up bend it like a V and dump in garbage can, so u don't walk around with debris from car stuck to clothes

The fun begins! One little trick I use to find spot welds on rusty panels is to lightly run a die grinder with a 2" 80 grit sanding disk over the surface and most of the spot welds become super visible.

Bravo! You’ve started on the Charger and you accomplished a lot in one day. Those spot welds take a long time to drill out. Done that before myself. As far as the color to paint it, those earth tone colors look good on the second Gen Chargers, so don’t be afraid to go gold again. I don’t know what your painting experience is or how pretty you want to make it. If it were my car, I would put a gold metal flake paint job on it. I shoot custom paint myself and am doing a 73 Dodge van at the moment and she’s getting a full blown 70s custom paint job with murals, a name and theme and lace, candy and flake. On your car I would straighten it out and body work it, then lay down a black base coat. Then lay down a silver flake base coat, then shoot some bigger flake (.015) and maybe even the next size up on top of that. Clear that with a couple layers. Scuff it and shoot the gold candy, then clear again three or four times. Lol 😅that would be a lot of work, but you must know someone out there who could help you with the paint to go that route. It would get a lot of attention painted that way, especially with some 15x10 Cragars on the back. Till next time!

This one's a keeper for future reference! I've got a bit of body work staring me in the face - nothing this involved, but a fair bit of cut & fit. My major hassle is trying to get it done before the first snow - which for us here in Cornhusker country could be within a few weeks {or days - 2019's first snow was Oct 15!}. Black is a tricky color - gloss shows every flaw in the skin, but a flat or matte finish is more forgiving. However, a good shade of dark / Navy blue might make a good substitute. I've owned three dark blue vehicles, and with every one you could literally bash out a door ding with a rubber mallet, scuff the repair area with a Scotchbrite pad, and shoot some Dupli-Color from a rattle can - and it will blend in!! Don't even need to color-sand afterwards. If you're after something a bit different, "butternut" yellow is trending at the moment, and it looks good on just about anything. If you're bold enough to be silly, Panther Pink {which to my eyes is more magenta} hasn't been done to death on '68 Chargers. Hell, why not go for true pink - the shade Mary Kay Cosmetics made famous. Jay Leno has a '69 AMX that actually was born a Mary Kay car, and it looks gorgeous in pink. Just sayin'. KUTGW!!!😎

Got a '69 Swinger (in R-4 Red) that came from the original owner in central, west Texas. Back about '78-'79, they put the 383 powertrain & rear axle (with the help of tall shackles) from a '68 Road Runner in it along with buckets (I believe was a Pontiac). They drove it a little bit, then parked it in their "Back 40" for about 42 years. I tried to see if they had the original 340, but he had no idea where it went. Unlike your car, the body is very solid, including the spare tire well- what wasn't solid? The front footwells, due to the fact they ordered the car with the full rubber floor covering instead of carpet. Watching you work on this reminds me of cutting out the entire floor of the car, lol. Didn't need a full floor, but did it and put in a 4-speed hump...since it'll never be a numbers matching car, it's getting the restomod treatment. Except for the rocker reinforcement, US Car Tool chassis stiffening catalog was thrown at it (after a quick check on a jig). It is much, much more rigid. Your car appears to originally have been TT-1 medium green poly, if the person who painted it red stayed in the color book for '68, they used PP-1 Red

Hey knarlee speed shop i saw at one point in the video yall mentioned gold paint under the orange thats a cool find also go to the dmv and have them look up the previous owners for you may have yourself an actual general lee car from the show theres always tell tale signs left behind the easiest to find being where the roll bar was cut out of the car you can see evidence where it once was just behind the front seats if you start noticing oddities like that the value of the car goes way way up

Frame will be next then the cab.. I.ve sprayed everything blasted with rust killer that leaves a coating and seals it. So nice for welding patches and straitening. 10 years down the road you will wish you had.

Drilling the spot welds are a pain in the ass but it is the best and proper way of doing it unless you overlap everything and then it really becomes a pain and then you have to use lot's of bondo at least the way your doing it will save lot's of bondo and fitment issues in the end.

Drilling out spot welds sucks. Finding them is the hardest part for me. I bought a body panel knife which is pretty helpful for separating panels and finding the spot welds, similar to using an air chisel just manual and the tool is a bit thinner. Did you end up just air chiselling right through them or did you stop and drill as you got to them?
@GnarlySpeedShop

On the less delicate parts like trunk extensions, we just chiseled through them.

I've always thought you should paint it matt finish black like Stunt Man Mike's. If that rivet remover is a bit incased in a steel or titanium case that is spring-loaded and had a stop-brake on it that prevented drilling past the bottom edge of the rivet you'd be done quicker with no drill-throughs. The brake would look like a tiny valve lifter.
