Boy can I agree. I'd like to like this over and over LOL I have a housekeeping business and people already treat housekeepers like crap(not all but more than you'd think) so imagine how they are when calling about housekeeping. The shit I hear is Mind blowing. People dehumanize housekeepers left and right, get weirdly sexual towards them, and pissed for charging reasonable pricing for cleaning. If your housekeeper is letting you go as a client, good chance you're a dick.

Absolutely love the "Joseph and Mary were homeless" thing this plot hinges on given that they were just... travelling? They had a home???? But who am I to question such an *Unusual Santa*?
@Manigeitora2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, poverty as we see it now didn't really exist in the times of Jesus, because the world wasn't industrialized yet. Joseph was a carpenter, so he likely built their home and offered his services to others to barter for other goods and services, and carpentry certainly wasn't in low demand at the time. Lots of people had their own small farms and/or gardens and rarely needed to purchase or barter for basic needs such as food, shelter, and water. Sure, they were poor by today's standards, but anyone other than the richest people in the Roman Empire were poor by today's standards. There is even a line of scripture that states that even though he *was* rich, Jesus *chose* to be poor to show people the virtue of poverty: "For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you through His poverty might become rich." 2 Corinthians 8:9

I think a lot of people misunderstand what is meant by "Joseph and Mary were homeless." I could be wrong, but I don't think anyone actually believes they were in Bethlehem to begin with because they were homeless, since Luke pretty explicitly states that they were there for an Imperial Census; rather, they were homeless when fleeing Herod, from Bethlehem to Egypt -- i.e. they were quite literally homeless refugees.

I'll give you a bit of the inside scoop on this film. It was written, directed, and produced by the director who also played the mean guy in the bathroom who shoved paper towel down the neck of Jack's penguin costume. He and his wife also did the casting. The director also edited the film... The casting was mostly done through cattle calls in NE Indiana. There was not a lot of direction going on during filming so that's the only defense I can give to a lot of the bad acting in the film. Nothing like "project," or "try that differently..." There weren't a lot of takes on the film either... meaning, each scene was only shot a few times...sometimes only 2-3 takes. I believe the budget was something like $10,000. The members of the cast were only given the scenes they were in. We knew zero about the film other than what we'd read in auditions and the scenes we appeared in. So there was no context given to anything we were doing. None of the actors were paid. Not even the leads. The leads were given... I think 2-3% of the proceeds of the film? Something like that. None of the supporting cast or extra were paid anything. They didn't even cater food during filming. Being on set wasn't much different than being in a community theatre production - except there wasn't any rehearsals. I've done a lot of theatre, playing leads and large supporting roles, and was extremely disappointed in my own performance. But again, we weren't getting much direction so none of us really had any idea we sounded or looked that bad. Wardrobe... came from our own closets...there was no costume department. There was very little to no make-up done. Props were off the cuff...no prop dept. So, again, 10K budget... very little direction... And an interesting tid bit... the mean mom and the fighting kids at the restaurant were actually the wife and kids of the actor who played Wesley. So... there's the dirt.

Fun fact: That whole "work for free for a week" part is actually, uh, *very illegal* (in the US, at least). Unless you are doing an internship through an accredited university or trade school program, or volunteering for a nonprofit, companies are *required by law* to pay you at least minimum wage. And even in unpaid internships, companies have to be *very* careful about what work you do - basically, if you are providing anything of value to the company (such as designing a shirt, flipping a burger, or yes, even tendering payment from a customer), then you *must* be financially compensated for it. The department of labor has very strict rules about what constitutes an internship vs. employment. This is also why many companies in the US have stopped doing unpaid internships - in *2015 alone,* Warner Music paid out 4.2 million dollars, NBC paid out 6.4 million dollars, and Viacom paid out 7.2 million dollars due to lawsuits involving unpaid internships. As a Smart, Professional Hardworking Bad Dad and Business Guy, Jack should fucking know this. In fact, he could have stood to make a fair bit of money trying to get people to work for free and then suing the burger joint. Homeless for the Holidays? More like Class Action Christmas, baby!

restaurants still do this kind of shit, they're called "stages". i once worked for free at a restaurant for a month on the promise of later employment like a jackass bc i was naive and thought it would make me look good to the prospective employer, who fired me immediately after that month for being 10 minutes late. it's illegal but the way labor is treated in the US and neoliberal capitalism as a whole, this kind of stuff happens regularly in many industries, especially food service.

Keep in mind that some people have absolutely made great or even funny songs in 24 hours or less. The difference between them and Jake Paul is that the people who write these good songs in a day know what they're doing. Excellent script writers can write a decent script in 3 weeks. Maybe it won't be the best movie script ever written, but it'll be good. If you hire a bunch of no-skill writers who don't understand jackshit about poverty, homelessness, or the work force, of course the script will end up being horrible. 3 weeks, months, or even YEARS wouldn't help that.

As someone whose lived through homelessness for three years. I am legitimately offended by the portrayal of being unhoused. Like, it’s not a playful romp through a tent city in a park. 3:19 Is nobody else concerned that this Santa literally cursed someone (and by association, their entire FAMILY) to be homeless because that person didn’t donate ‘enough money’? I mean, how did the Santa even know it was being selfish? What if the guy didn’t have a lot of cash money on him? What if he had already donated to a different charity and didn’t have a lot left over? What if he was poor and didn’t have a lot of money to spare??
@Manigeitora2 жыл бұрын
Not to mention, people in Santa costumes would not be collecting money for a church. Santa Claus is an American recontextualization of an old European legend that's based *very loosely* on a real Bishop from the third century AD. People in Santa costumes almost exclusively raise money for The Salvation Army and similar nonprofits. In my experience at least, churches rarely send people out to collect donations unless they're doing a food drive - and that money's for the food, not for the church. They get plenty of money from the weekly donations from their members. Now, if they showed him being stingy with the collection plate at church every Sunday, that would make a lot more sense, and also remove the inconsistency of someone in a Santa suit being out in fucking September.

Does not represent homelessness at all. Looked like a normal camping trip I'd go on with my family. There is an actual homeless tent community in my town and it's nothing like this. And I feel awful for them because we get bad snow and low temperatures at this time of the year. The churches do offer overnight shelter, but during the day is totally different. Nothing is glamorous about being homeless and we didn't have as big of a homeless population until COVID hit. I know they use an abandoned house as well because they've set their tents up behind it, but there is no way without heat it's any warmer in the winter. So this actually irritates me. I may not be homeless, but it angers me to see them almost glorifying the tent community.

Exactly. I’ve never been homeless myself, but I do a lot of work with homeless people and in poor areas, and it just made me so angry. At least it seems like most people see right through it though. I’d hate for anyone to actually think it’s accurate :/

The 'I won't hire you cause you're not my type' part just reminded me: There was this hardware store in a nearby town where the manager only hired attractive twenty year olds and teenagers. For years this went on, and it seems no one had a problem with this, just laughed about it. This stopped recently and there's like guys and old women working there now. Maybe he left. But I could never figure out if the manager was a creep or if this was a conscious business plan and he thought this would get more customers.

@itsmeyaboi67213 жыл бұрын
@@LautloseLebwerwurst3000 Sure, I’ll explain it! In the US it’s normally considered most polite to wish someone “Happy Holidays” in December since you can’t be sure of their preferred religion or celebrated holiday. There are people, though, who get offended by this and think that you should only wish people “Merry Christmas” because that’s the Christian/traditional way of doing things. They feel like saying happy holidays stifles Christmas somehow.

That's exactly what I thought when he said that. I was like, what's with this movie?? So, my husband looked up the ratings, and there weren't very many, but the one "critic" who gave this movie a good review (5/5) was a Christian reviewer who was like, "Yayyyyyyyy!!! Finally, a wholesome Christian movie for faith-based families!!" We seriously wanted to vomit.

Quality Assurance and former Regulatory (labeling) specialist here: A company will _absolutely_ throw you under the bus if it was directly your fault that a bunch of people got sick due to your negligence. When the FDA comes cracking down on your factory, everything gets flipped upside down, everyone's in a rush to cover every @$$ that can be covered, and if they narrow it down to one person, that person (and probably their manager, possibly going way up the chain even to the VPs) is on the chopping block. If you put "peanut free" on something and some kid goes into anaphylactic shock and dies, someone's going to jail, and everyone's shouting "not it." At best, if no one's dead, the FDA will be breathing down your company's neck for years and the brand will lose public trust, and at least someone will be asked to resign.

Craziest story I have for when I was homeless is the night I almost got shot. I was sleeping in a car and saw two guys fighting like 10 yards from my car. I just laid back and hoped they wouldn’t notice I was awake and watching. Next thing I know one guy ran to his truck after getting knocked down and other dude was running after him. Next thing I know other homie is running away. Now I lived in the hood, I know people don’t just run. Other dude comes around from the truck and has a whole ass colt 45. I laid back mad fast and just clutched my sword, my biggest comfort I’ve had since I was 12 and swordsmanship saved my life. Like 10 seconds later I hear the gun go off. Next morning when I get out of the car the bullet is in the door. I’m still convinced that the soul of my best friend saved my life that night. Being homeless is not some fun time that’s easy. It’s dangerous and is one of the worst times in a persons life
