There are several definitions of mass shooting but most of them require 4 people to be shot, sometimes excluding the shooter. So this event wasn't bad enough to count on some of the definitions.

It might make sense if these sorts of shooters were logical actors interested in self preservation. Then it would be like nuclear deterrence between nations in that if everyone were armed, nobody would open fire in public for fear of being shot in return. The problem is that most of these men have a death wish.

I wish people would remember Emantic Bradford's killing. He brought out his gun to defend himself / protect others (he was active military, I believe) during a mall shooting in Alabama. But he was shot, instead of the actual perpetrator / perpetrators (I don't quite remember the exact details). The difference between Emantic and the 'good guy with a gun' in this situation? Emantic was a black man. So a police officer shot him, instead of the assailants. Man was active duty military, protecting his own life and others, and the reaction of police was to immediately kill him for being the 'good guy with a gun'. Let that sink in when you consider that the outcome in this situation in Indiana was 'good'. You get to be a good guy with a gun - as long as you look the part to law enforcement.
@greenbackjack768

A cursory Google search will show that it has happened plenty of other times in instances where the "good guy" bends down to remove the gun from the attackers arms, or to eject the chambered round/ remove the magazine to make sure the gun isn't a danger anymore. Sucks that this has to happen at all.

That was right down the road from where I lived at the time, I believe one of my wife's coworkers was there with his family (probably on the other end of the mall at least, they were fine aside from the whole "hearing gunshots in the mall you're in" thing). Nothing to add to this very good point, just chiming in with the usual "this can happen to literally any of you reading this right now, we should probably address the problem at some point" humanizing comment.

I like that most of the media was around the guy that stopped him, and ensured the attackers exit to Hell was a slow and painful one. What little we know about the attacker is enough for most people. He left a suicide note on 4Chan with photos including N@z1 wedding. It seems he thought that his life would've been better if if were under the Axis. If that were the case, his dad would probably been more encouraged to beat him and his warehouse job would've been offshored to literal slaves in camps, once again making an eviction a certainty. This is the typical reality of a good guy with a gun can look like on those rare occasions it works at all. Some lives saved, still 3 people dead. Make no mistake, the guy who shot the shooter is a hero. An extremely rare kind of person who steps up and puts their own life at risk to save others. The majority of people are more like the Uvalde cops when crisis strikes. The lesson to learn here of course is that America are currently in a barbaric scenario where you're relying on armed civilians to restrict the odd mass shooting out of the constant flow down to only 3 dead. It has been shown time and time again that the solution to gun violence is gun control - I know Vaush is not a fan of this fact but that doesn't change it from being so. The USA has a cultural illness with regards to guns which means that gun control to a sensible level seen in most Western countries (i.e. very few civilians owning guns and strict conditions surrounding ownership) is not possible, but surely something can be done.

You can homebrew a gun out of pipes and old fertilizer but that wont be as easy as just buying it and grabbing it off the shelf when you feel the urge to murder. The vast majority of people who do these kind of shootings do it as a spur of the moment thing after fantasizing about it. They generally dont have the energy or money to do 3d printing of firearms and even if they did thats the sort of red flag that people could look for. Australia did a massive gun buyback and their gun violence plummeted. So did their suicide rate. One of the reasons the US's gun violence is so out of control is that guns are everywhere, legal, and easy to get. Whenever the urge comes up to hurt yourself or someone else, well the gun is right there ready to go.

The movie theater analogy is happening all over the country. Everyday I read about mass shootings at places where people are gathering. Police always claim it was because of an altercation that escalated. The problem is that there are so many people with guns that as soon as one shot is fired, everyone in the crowd pulls out their gun and starts shooting. This video was recorded before a lot of the information came out but there's something very hinky and suspicious about the account that authorities give. I won't have any confidence about how this thing went down until we see security video. If it went down the way they said it did, then credit to the guy who stopped the killing, but giving everyone a gun is not a solution to ending mass gun violence but increases overall gun violence to the extreme.

@@thinkharder9332 You are not engaging, can you give an example of a gang encounter that resulted in a MASS SHOOTING? You're literally arguing in a reality that doesn't exist. What happens if there are 4 good guys with a gun zeroing in on a mass shooter's position? Do you think it's only the shooter getting killed in that scenario?
@TheCamps10
@TheCamps10 2 жыл бұрын
@@thinkharder9332 Here we go 1. Fine, I'll grant you that. Unfortunately, it's not the gang fights that concern innocent law-abiding citizens. 2. And wrong, unless they pre-organized, the four armed guys will only see more than one armed guy as soon as they see eachother. That is of course, unless your idea is that the good guy would have to wait to see the shooter kill someone first, which, idiotic risk, but if that were the case, how would they know they're seeing the mass shooter and not the good guy with a gun?

Most Black, Asian, & Latinos in Greenwood live in the neighborhoods immediately surrounding the mall, where I lived in middle/high school. The 20-yr-old shooter was, in fact, a White boy (SHOCKER), & several victims were Latino. Despite my shock, this really is no great surprise to me.
