Being both a moccer and a collector that loves displaying each and every owned set, I've perfected my ultimate sorting strategy: I have all my sets built, except for duplicates, and when I wanna make some mocs, I just take apart the sets I need. I find it easier just remembering by heart the pieces from my entire collection related to the sets they're from. The side effect is that I also can rebuild something like 150-180 different Bionicle sets without instructions. It's weird and unoptimized for many of you, but to me that's the right balance between building and collecting imho. Ofc, this wouldn't work with system sets and mocs.

I feel like having knowledge about your own collection is really cool and helps with sorting. I pretty much always know If I own a piece whenever it was in any set of my childhood collection and with categories that make sense for me, I instantly know where to find it.

The timing of this video is incredible for me. It just so happens that next week I am gonna start sorting my very own "pile of shame"...and while over the last decade I have developed what I like to think as a practical sorting system through trial and error...you have given me a couple of nice ideas. Wow, at this 7:08 point, I actually started considering trying that out, because - I FEEL liek there's a bit of a problem of me having many boxes with many spaces, sorting all the pieces by TYPE, and so, system pieces, when I am surrounded by all technic, CCBS and Bionicle, are harder to reach, where there are STILL pieces I could use, so MAYBE, I should re-sort a bunch of it, (not the technic stuff though I don't think) try to do it this way that you've explained here thank you for opening my eyes on that, these are really helpful videos, I know I watched your older one on just sorting in general, and I really was hoping for more (I'm not sure I ever commented, maybe I did, who cares though really) Have a nice dayyy! \(^- ^)

Always interesting to see how people sort. I'm more of a "sort by type" kind of person. I also am a floor builder, so everything's in ziploc bags and stored in a big storage container that I drag out whenever I want to build something. Maybe someday I'll graduate to a desk and drawers lol.

After bionicle was canceled, I moved on to Lego technic and that is amazing to sort. A couple years ago, I tried sorting my system pieces and that's absolutely horrible. I personally can't imagine sorting my bionicle pieces, as I don't actually have enough to make large piles

See i want to have more in depth sorting like this, but for right now I don't have the space or part quantity to justify it. I have a bunch of mismatched hardware containers/organizers where most things are more generally sorted, and stuff like technic pins/axels/etc are all sorted by size variety, friction/no friction and such.

I have spent hours meticulously sorting my technic pins and axels into their own mini drawers...this made me stop and ask if I should just save time and use your method! Would I save time more time not sorting, or by not having to dig through?

I would suggest to not mix small and large pieces together. Also, pieces like Krana, kraata, squids, ammo from shooters and Masks deserve separate containers.
