@@babu357 in my experiences over 40 years either people I've had discussions with and commenters on social media have more often than not been very harsh and critical of her performance. I've heard everything ranging from "she's nothing like King's description in the book" to "she's so annoying I was rooting for Jack to axe her." Ridiculous! Her meek exterior makes everyone underestimate her inner strength. That's what Kubrick was striving to get from Shelly and she delivered.

@@ronaldh8446 Yes, I have heard, "she's nothing like King's description in the book" But I also heard that about the movie. There is always book loyalists to say that. Since then I haven't paid much attention.

Shelly Duvall MADE The Shining. That movie performance was pure genius on Shelly’s part. As the child of a very abusive father, she nailed the anxiety and the uncertainty of a woman who is walking on eggshells around her unstable husband. In my opinion, Shelly deserved an Oscar for that portrayal. Every nuance and fidgety movement was the nervous energy of a woman afraid of her every move. I Love you, Shelly! You’re so beautiful, inside and out! Also loved her performance in The 4th Floor as Martha the nosy, building, manager, opposite, Juliette Lewis! ❤❤❤

@@Penny-nd9ze I read the book about three times. Don't assume! And I know she's one of the main characters. Duh! I said she was the weakest CAST member.

Please let her know how many of us were touched by this interview (which I applaud you for doing in the manner you did) - it brought back so many memories of what a power house actress she is, and will show the world she STILL is. Such a genuinely lovely human being. I was in tears for half of this because I could tell she sincerely accepted all your kind words and compliments. She took them to heart. There are so few people in Hollywood of her caliber of acting skill and genuine goodness. I could listen to hear talk about her career all day! So many great stories and memories. Thank you for doing this, for posting this, and for being compassionate interviewers. I rarely ever comment but you did a great thing here and I'm so grateful.

Wow great job giving Shelley the respect she deserves 👏 Kubrick made her life hell on set and Jack Nicholson always gets all the credit but without Shelley's awesome acting and commitment, there's no way that the Shining would have been the masterpiece it is! Her eyes alone instilled fear and that's hard to do.

So glad people get to see Shelley here vs. that awful Dr. Phil episode. Grimlifecollective did a fantastic job of letting us see the real Shelley. Shelley was such a sweet person. She was talented and wonderfully gifted. I cried when I heard the news she died. RIP Shelley.

Shelley was an amazing actor. I wasn't sure what to expect with this interview after hearing all the press over the years about her mental health. But she was so well-spoken and charming. Whatever troubles she has gone through in the past, she seems to have overcome them. I hope she is happy in her life now.

No one could have been as good as Shelly in either Popeye or The Shining. Shel captured those characters to perfection. I am so please to see that she is still out there in the world; You can tell that she is a very kind and gracious person. It is sad when someone who has given so much joy is treated in such an exploitive way, as she was, years ago. This interview gave her the respect that she certainly deserves.

Thank you guys for showing her the respect she deserves and spending time with her off camera. She has been extremely disrespected in interviews I’ve seen, especially within past 5 years. But the love and admiration for her, I felt that through the screen and in the tone of your voices. She is such an icon and inspiration and she was put through so much as an actress. Hollywood should have treated her better. But I’m so glad to see her getting back into acting and I can’t wait to see her in “the forest hills”!!! Though she has aged, her beautiful bright eyes have always stayed the same. ❤ That’s cool you guys got to be coproducers for the forest hills as well! Love Shelley and kudos to you guys on this awesome interview!!! ❤
