Just recently finished watching Gunbuster, and it is all thanks to your video. I absolutely loved it, even considering buying it on blu-ray. I am glad I found your channel. Looking forward to your next video!

Loved Gun Buster. Its also one of the reasons I liked Gurren Lagann too, when it came out.

Hey, I've been looking for the name of a 90's anime that i only saw the end of when i was a kid. A woman with metal wings was fighting a giant monster with a tiny white face. Nothing seemed to work until she cut the tiny white face in half. I think it snaked out after it was cut, like the face was a head of a snake inside the monster. I think the story went back and forth between the winged woman and a small female cyborg traveling through the mountains this a big black dude. I was twelve, this was 24 year ago...

Sounds familiar - at least the part with the snake coming out of the face sounds familiar - but I can't think of where I know it from. Now I feel like I need find the answer lol.

@@VansAnime Thanks for even humoring me. It's been years and the few lines I remember from it are core memories. The cyborg girl asks the man at the end if the place they are going to will be "big enough for three," seeming to imply that she is carrying the man's baby. I was 11, so it was a big deal. It seemed sweet, even. I don't know. Thank you for even wondering about it.

Good gravy! You have to give me some notice before you drop something that awesome! My brain almost exploded! 🤯 Part of why this was so amazing was that anime used to be ready when it was ready. Now they have a release date before they start animating. Gunbuster could never have been made today. Instead, we get a dozen isekai animes a year that have all the impact of the bag of Doritos I ate in the car then spent 20 minutes looking for when I got to my own driveway. (Where the hell did they go? I would have known if I ate them...) Great anime music is pretty rare these days as well. Macross Plus is always going to be one of my favorites, but Armitage III is a masterpiece. I've gone back to my department many times, put on my headphones, and cranked out police reports with that OST blocking out all the distractions. Gunbuster has the classic sounds of the era that I miss so much. This was a truly great video. Your editing, writing, and humor are criminally underrated. Yes, the anime is one of the best, but without presentation, it's just some old Japanese cartoon. Glad to see you back, and it was certainly worth the wait.

I thought about setting this one as a premier, but after having to re-edit several times due to copyright issues with KZbin, I just threw it online once it finally passed the checks lol. Nothing blocks out distractions quick like a good OST. Although, sometimes they can be distracting in their own way lol.

First I found a Macross II.. now Gunbuster! I don't know how you only have just under 600 subs.. but count me in as one more! Showcasing the show, clips, and music really shows what these had to offer. Sucks you have to fight with copyright, but I think you handled it in one of the best ways! Usually folks just cut out or use stills, but actually seeing a blurred version of the video gives a WAY better impression than a still would. Im also impressed with the delivery, if your reading from a script your crushing it, i've only done it a few times and people don't realize it's kind of a skill. Awesome vid, I'm sure they take a lot of work, but keep em coming!!

Thanks! I used stills on my most recent Ranma Christmas video a lot since most of that got snagged by copyright. Eventually I had to take it down and will eventually try and re-upload it. But, I much prefer blurring when I need to. Yes, I read from a script. IMO it's one of those things that you get better with over time. I can notice a big difference between my earlier videos and my recent ones - but then again I think we are always hyper critical when judging our own voices lol.

In my admittedly very limited experience with anime my most common issue has been with the pacing. There's a lot of treading water and plots that go nowhere. This show, which I saw for the first time today, felt like such a breath of fresh air with a plot that was moving forward the whole time. The only thing that really didn't work was the whole bit with the boyfriend, but removing that part (which I think you could) would make the pacing even more breakneck.

A cool thing about Gunbuster is that it's production was right before the economy bubble burst, so you see all these subtle jingoistic and imperialistic Easter eggs throughout the show, including the fact that Japan purchased Hawaii from a decaying America. It's something that would be absolutely laughable to consider now but not back then.
@VansAnime Жыл бұрын
Agreed! There was a lot of worry about being overtaken by the Japanese economy on the news here in the states when I was a kid. Something like that was certainly an understandable prediction of the future back then.

Man, we just don't get greatness like Gunbuster like we used to. Gunbuster alongside Evangelion, VOTOMS, Macross, Gundam, etc. are very much what made a good chunk of us huge anime fans, and the fact that it couldn't get made nowadays when anime studios would rather subsist in cookie cutter isekai battle shonen garbage with storytelling as deep as a shallow puddle on the driveway and characters so annoying you wish for the sweet release of death. Anime back then had actual depth in regard to storytelling, world-building, character arcs, human drama, high octane action sequences, the whole shebang.
@VansAnime Жыл бұрын
Indeed. And I have not forgotten about VOTOMS ;) Just FYI
