It's all very well to have black and white stances on everything, but as we grow older we realize that most things just aren't that simple. In regards to Ethan’s opinion on Jonah Hill: I think Ethan is giving Jonah too much credit with his interpretation that he was saying “hey I’m crazy, these are my boundaries take it or leave it.” I don’t think Jonah is aware how crazy his demands are, and I don’t think he’s being genuine when he says if she doesn’t like it she can leave; he’s trying to guilt her into complying with his demands. If you’re the girlfriend and you’re in love and don’t want to lose your boyfriend, it becomes much more complicated than “just leave me if you don’t accept my boundaries”, there’s incentive for the girlfriend to give into what he wants in order not to lose him.

The Jonah Hill part is a perfect example of why i love the podcast. Ethan had an opinion, the crew didnt agree with him at all like "yes men" but they didnt shame him either, they explained their ratinale and with more evidence and explanation he started to get the issue more. Emotional abuse is still abuse and a lot of us, like ethan, probably dont have enough experiences or conversations to know more about it. Great Job Crew and a big hug to the family sharing their stories and opinions.

Agree that people shouldn't be shamed for ignorance. The issue is that sometimes the things people are ignorant on are very sensitive and/or personal subjects and people with experience with those subjects can be triggered. It's important that other people who don't have those triggers also learn about issues so they can advocate and explain when others can't. We should all try to help each other whenever we can
@carmandirda
@carmandirda Жыл бұрын
It also gets easier to see as you peel back the layers. The chat was pretty annoying during that. 😂 I get that Ethan wasn't quite seeing what we were seeing, but to make such giant leaps about his character is a little goblin mode of chat. Being ignorant or asking questions isn't the same as being evil.

Agree! While I don’t agree with Ethan, berating him for his initial feelings is so counterproductive. It won’t change his mind, it will mean he won’t ask for opinions and education or thoughts and will lead to less conversations which is the opposite of what we what to happen. Additionally, there will be other people who have the same thoughts and Opinions, or worse (like saying she’s a clout chaser or something) so having the conversation is the best way to educate and share experiences so people can be more informed, without feeling attacked, stupid or shamed for asking, especially when they (like Ethan) have be shown to WANT to learn and grow.

Jonah Hill made those “expectations” known while they were already dating. He also called them “boundaries,” something he learned in therapy and is using as a mechanism of control, which is manipulative. Also, “boundaries” can be placed and enforced on yourself, not others. If she denied those “boundaries,” Jonah would have accused her of not loving him or he would have found another way to package these terms to continue to have control over her.
@Musashi944

@@risenjoker923 Again, these aren’t “boundaries.” Boundaries are things you place in yourself, you cannot place boundaries on others because they have autonomy (duh). These are demands and restrictions. Also, it doesn’t matter. You don’t make somebody invested in you and then begin restricting who they can speak with and what they can wear. I mean, you shouldn’t do that in any capacity unless you’re an abusive, insecure fuckhead.

agree with everything you said but boundaries can absolutely be set for others as well, and should at times to maintain a healthy relationship! just the other day i set a boundary with my boyfriend that it was okay with me for him to go to strip clubs for a bachelor party, but i wasn’t okay with him getting a lap dance. you could have a boundary with your family to not talk about politics or religion. there’s many ways to implement boundaries in a relationship and not just on yourself.

On her channel, it says the video came out 2 weeks ago. The song was on Itunes on July 1st. This means the song had to be uploaded to CDbaby around June 15th. 2 weeks before the song was available to the public. Also, as a member of Cdbaby, I know that you set your own prices.

I did a little digging. The ISRC for the song is QZNMU2336854 from this we can see the country code QZ is USA. The registrant code is NMU, I can't verify this is CD Baby but it probably is. 23 is the year of publishing and 36854 is the designation code, which can't be repeated in the same year, which probably means it's the 36,854th code registered in 2023 by that registrant. But also, Spotify says the content is unavailable and many ISRC code lookup sites do not return results for that ISRC nor the title. Which is suspicious, and may indicate some form of fraudulent activity. But then there's the remaining claim on only the H3 podcast... which if the song was in the takedown process, should be lifted like everyone else's.

Loving her outgoing and independent lifestyle. Now that they are in a relationship he is setting these unrealistic boundaries based on the person he is. It is classic abuse. Policing of her body, isolating her from her colleagues and shaming her for who is she at her core. It’s sick and twisted. I’m so tired of the “respecting privacy” argument when it comes to abusers…. It’s so common in families to keep hush hush about the creepy uncle or the terrible grandparent… it just opens the door for more abuse to take place! We need to expose these people, not only for our own validation, but to keep possible future victims safe. Abusers do not deserve privacy 😠
@samysnes
@samysnes Жыл бұрын
Yes I think Ethan was giving him too much credit. I think a big part of it is that he is more sensitive to privacy as a relatively well known person. It's coming from someone whose breach of privacy has led to some doxxing, swatting, serious death threats, a lot of very unsafe situation for him and his family so I'm willing to understand why he would be more sensitive to this stuff. I think he was wrong but he has a point when he says, there has to be a limit where it becomes not okay to breach someone's privacy and he tried to see where that limit is. In this situation, yes, Jonah Hill was over the limit and Ethan found out. But you have to admit that there could be scenarios where it would not be warranted.

In no way is that the situation happening with jonah hill and his ex. Please do not conflate the two. Jonah hill was obviously a manipulative jerk But in no way was their situation some hush hush family secret thing. She was talking to her friends about it. She was talking to a therapist about it. She was talking to all the right people about this and they broke up. And in no way, do we have any right to know about their situation. She's still thinking about their relationship 2 years after their break up. It's something that deeply bothers her and I hope that she speaks to somebody about this but that someone is the entire world.

I wish there was a way people could understand emotional abuse is not only incredibly hard to prove, people consider emotional abuse to be different. Physical is usually more transparent; there’s scars, bruises, etc. I am a survivor and I didn’t think to record any emotional and verbal abuse I experienced. Also, Jonah’s ex just posted a video with a great point, if you’re someone who is okay with survivors showing photos of physical abuse, this is how people prove emotional abuse. Agree! I think it might be quite hard for Ethan to empathise with people who aren’t famous and aren’t in the public eye, because he is famous, so the idea of releasing private conversations would feel like a much bigger invasion of privacy to us laymen. I don’t agree with his opinions at all, it’s clearly emotional abuse and a great example of common emotional abuse that could happen to anyone. It’s not extreme. So it’s harder for some people to accept It as abuse, when this type is far more common, much more stigmatised and much hard for the victim to even identify. And that’s why it’s important to educate, so people can see the signs before it’s too late, before it escalates

As someone who was in a very abusive relationship, it doesn’t matter if the abuse is physical, sexual, emotional, mental or financial. Abuse is abuse. If you were to walk into any woman’s shelter and they asked what type of abuse you’ve been going through they will accept you for all the above that I listed. Even if the abuse isn’t physical it is still very traumatic and messes with your brain and how you think. I can’t stand it when someone says “well at least it wasn’t physical “. Even if your partner has never hit you before, if they are treating you in an abusive way, it’s abuse. Talk like this makes women think that if it isn’t physical than it doesn’t count. Help is out there, even if you don’t have a safe place to land you can go to a Women’s shelter. They will provide room and board, meals, clothes, even help you find a job and therapy. People are willing to help. ❤

Ethan consistently made it clear that what was being shown on screen was not ok. You’re getting it mixed with him not being able to take a solid stance on whether or not the screenshots should have been released. I agree with Love about how difficult it would be for Sarah to watch Jonah be so successful and loved, call himself a feminist, put out a documentary about how therapy changed him, etc. If sharing the messages that showed how emotionally abusive he was provides her any comfort or healing, I 100% support her sharing them. She should not have to hold that secret just so he won’t be “ruined.” Abusers don’t deserve to have their reputations protected. Major props to Olivia, Love, and Dan for really pushing back against Ethan’s take on this. All three had really good points.

Just leaving a relationship similar to this, and to respond to Ethan’s “he’s saying he’s crazy” and being clear with it. When you like someone and they say something like “don’t talk to people who make me uncomfortable” you think ok, that’s reasonable, why would I, and then it slowly becomes controlling and you don’t realize that the expectations have become abusive and isolating because it started off as an understandable request.

Yeah but it's weird for him to take that position when he's all over DM's, private conversations, and gossip when it's involving people he doesn't like. In every "drama" story there is someone who is exposing private conversations. If you feel that strongly about it then what makes Steven Crowders video at home getting leaked any different? Both Crowder and Jonah are public figures. Both Crowder and Jonah were abusive towards their partner and did not agree to private conversations being seen by the public. It can't only be okay because you don't like the person it's happening to. Either you are all aboard for this expose "drama" content or you don't touch it at all. H3 podcast covers a lot of stories diving into personal details, if he truly felt bad for seeing private conversations then don't cover any drama at all.

@@Plutonium.2you gotta be pretty smart to get as famous as she did and stay semi relevant throughout all the years….even while doing some awful and stupid things. She’s a theatre kid and actually made her character based on some girls she went to school with who thought they were talented and made the account to troll them. Singing an apology ensured that it would basically break the internet, everyone would talk about it, parodies were out in minutes, and every commentator on the site would react and discuss it. Not only could she try and copy right it for the money, but she could do it to channel with less chance of disputing it who may just take down the video or have to cut the clips of her completely. It was an absolute insane choice to do the TGT as an “apology” but she’s gotten one last boost of attention that has people talking more than the actual allegations, and she can try to profit or silence based on it.
