Should have made a jack shaft with the center of the clutch disc welded to one end for the splines to adapt to the transmission shaft. Use a 40 series torque a verter kit with plate on the 420cc engine. Run chain from driven clutch to sprocket on the jackshaft. This will give you a neutral when idling and also allow you to shift your transmission to reverse when needed. You would also be able to start your engine with the electric starter or pull start and the car would not jump ahead. No more pushing to start your car. It would run even smoother at the correct rpm/ power band. All you would need is a 40 series converter kit with backing plate and jackshaft made correctly, and appropriate sprockets. And you would have a smooth running and controllable power source for your car. The torque converter kit, pillow blocks and sprockets are off the shelf items. Not much more of an expense.

ya that seems like an easy step for more control rather than direct drive. An engine is an engine, i mean an ATV or UTV with 20-30 hp 325cc single cylinder engine (ie polaris sportsman 330) will do a lot of work around most farms with an even smaller engine, so not sure why people are so shocked lol. An ATV can have a lot more control, 4x4 etc so not shocking at all.

You can put a cheap chinese engine in a econobox, and it will get you places, as long as you have another, larger vehicle to follow behind you, and push start you after every stop light. Would have been a lot more impressive, and entertaining had the car been actually functional and not visibly cut up. For instance, the reactions at the Wal Mart when you walk up to the car, open the hood, pull start the motor, then drive away.

@@mikemarler8224 in all fairness, that was just a rushed job. Most of these little engines come with electric start on a 12v system so its quite easy to get electric start. Even my 7hp generator has electric start with onboard battery. Clutch solves the push start issues, and you can get some sort of exhaust to go into the original outlet of the car's exhaust system. Again most of these motors will move a car, drive around etc, but longevity of the vehicle will be relatively low.

Yep! The predator v-twin is 33 ft lbs of torque and rated at 22hp. Most say that’s low. Can be had for under $700 with coupon. For reference a 84 CRX 1.3 only had 60 HP and that was a legit car.

In terms of CC you are close to the first gennerations of Citroen 2cv the 2cv4 which had 425cc. You have actually created a pretty fuel economic vehicle there. You should develop this idea! Hook up the throttle cable and add some clutch mechanism.

@@thedriven1415 These engines have fixed ignition timing. they quickly lose torque when revved up beyond 3600 RPM. At 18.3 foot pounds of torque, that engine produces 12.543 brake horsepower@3600 RPM.

Later a 602 cc version was introduced and that made a world difference from the 425cc earlier version. I drive a 602 cc Citroen 2CV and it can easily cope with modern traffic. The lack of volume only really shows on the highway when I overtake.

They just fall on their face at anything above, because of venturi size of the carburetor, and small valve size, the engine was never intended to go much faster. their best torque, is usually right around 2800-3000 RPM. At 3600, they don't produce as much torque, but make up for it in speed, to produce their rated horsepower.
