Should Harley-Davidson put the all the Screamin Eagle parts in the CVO engine and not just some mild heads and cams?

It'd be great to have a full SE motor but as they're a business the total cost of such a motor might be even higher by the time it gets to the buyer?

You pay 10k over a special, the engine should be the screaming eagle parts top to bottom. Yes, the paint might be an extra 500-1000 at most. Where is the rest of that money going? Remort alarm with self locking saddle bags? That at the most would cost the factory 100 dollars.

CVO's are a status symbol. Harley knows the cats that buy them can also afford to modify them. After all it is about staying in your pocket until it's empty.

I bought the 2003 CVO Road King (you pictured it) 5 years ago. I bought it for $8,000 used and it had 7,900 miles on it. The only thing it needed was tires and I had the local Honda Shop put both tires on the rims (I took the rims to them with the tires on it) for $200 (mounted and balanced). Harley wanted $500 for the same thing so my money went to the local Honda shop who did it gladly. I thought the CVO had the upgraded cam chain tensioners, but as you pointed out to me 2 years ago (via the comments) it did not. So, I took it to the local HD dealership, in 2003, and they would not work on it. They said it was too old for them (it now has 15,000 miles on it). So, the local aftermarket shop will get my business, in the spring of 2024. So much for HD and their support.

Like you pointed out, for the extra cash people spend on the CVO models, anyone who knows just a little bit about torque+ hp and how to produce it, can build a base model that'll eat a CVO's lunch on the street, track, etc...for the price of a CVO I would have to be buying 4 of bikes...great advice on saving the stock parts if ever selling the CVO, as always, a great, honest, and straight forward video bro...👍

I almost bought a CVO recently. I decided to sleep on it and finalize it in the morning. The thing that stopped me was the custom paint. Accidents happen. Sometimes you drop your bike. Sometimes your son smacks it with the lawn mower. And sometimes your wife hooks the bumper of her car on the foot peg and drags it out of the garage. 😂😂 It's part of life. But if I messed the paint job up on the CVO? It might cost a fortune to fix it. Well, with that worry, I just don't think I could enjoy it as much.

When I was working with my local Harley dealer to find a used Road King the first one they showed me was a 110 CVO. I forget the year and milage It was just under 20K. I didn't understand the whole CVO concept at the time. But I knew from your channel that a 103 was the way to go. So the second Road King they showed me was a 2015 Mysterious Red 103 with under 5K miles and a Stage 1 Screaming eagle one it. It was 4K ish less then the CVO. So what looks and sounds like a "CVO" is my garage for less money. I am not very Harley mechanical but I feel smarter every time I watch your content. Thank you.

The rear cylinder sleeve moved down filled engine with bits of metal and got caught up in front lifter block where the case was severly damaged. I was on highway. If you consider mikeage which was documented it grenaded at 2900 miles. 8500 for motor not including install and tuning.

Dude I had that cvo road king with the 103, we tore it down to improve it and it has 93cc heads and the guy that did the work said the porting was good on them. He did do a 5 angle valve seat cut and titanium springs. They also installed a screamin eagle cam plate and pump, andrews cams, hpi throttle body, bigger injectors, eccel wires, kb forged pistons, 10 over bore, decked gasket surfaces, the crank had a 1 thou runout so we didn't split the cases, but he did say that motor for that particular bbike had a timkin bearing. I put a bassani stainless 2 into 1 on it with a sns stealth air filter. Put a new fuel pump and did some wiring issues it had. It made 110hp and 120tq, but the seat of the pants feeling was pretty damn incredible... Now my buddy just got a street glide with the 120r motor in it and my custom screamin eagle 103 smoked it every time! I rode the bike with the 120r and I wasn't impressed at all, and it has exhaust and an air filter on it too. I actually had that same gold road king you shown in the video, that's the bike that we did the custom 103. My recent bike is an 04 road king that had a 95" kit on it. I plan on rebuilding it in the future with a sns stroker crank and a 106 bore...

🛑🛑 Gix…..As a current CVO owner, and have owned others, the CVO bikes are worth it. 💯 The bike is alway s “unique” regardless how old they are, and are ALWAYS show stoppers at Bike Nights. 💯 I said it before…..you can take a plain Black Roadglide, and throw all the “goodies” that came on the CVO Roadglide for that year…but in the end, it’s still a Black Roadglide, and doesn’t change its value. 🤷‍♂️💯 The paint “difficulty thing” isn’t true. Gun Slinger paints the CVO’s; with the Original VIN#; they will paint the same color on new Tins, Saddlebags and Tour Packs. 💯 All you have to do is call them. 👍 Trade in Values are really nice when trading a CVO. They bring money back to you. All I can say….If you go CVO, you’ll NEVER go back!!💯

Yes they should, At least starting with the 110, And finding a used CVO with low mileage is do-able They're out there, In 2016 I came across a 2012 CVO SG (110) Bout 9K on it. the cool thing about it was on consignment at a HD dealership The owner just wanted to get rid of it. the only aftermarket stuff was a V&H power duels and CFR slipons Later I went with a stage II A complete fueling came chest w/ a 574 reaper cam plus i up-graded stock Air filter with a Hi-flow K&N, and Dynode with a power commander V so I gained about 30+ HP and approx 32FP torq over stock, all for about 28 hundred bucks, very happy with this. we can always spend more money if you have it but I think this S/2 is the best bang for the buck and BTW I had HD install their SG Hi capacity oil pan which added an extra Qt and a half of oil

Completely agree, they could do more with the engine and suspension on a CVO. I traded a brand new 2028 Street Glide for a brand new 2018 CVO Street Glide over double the cost and the stereo is junk. I should have just added some stuff the the standard and saved a bundle of cash. I had already added CFR pipes and a tuner. I did upgrade the exhaust on the CVO to V&H power duals and hi flow slip-ons. Gave the stock exhaust to a buddy, shouldn’t have done that 😮

There is a $10,310 difference in the regular two tone limited and CVO limited. There is over $15,000 in catalog parts, plus the paint, badges, locks and software that are CVO specific. If you purchased a regular limited ond spent $10,000 in aftermarket parts a person couldn't get a loan to buy it because the extra parts do not carry a value with the bank. In general you won't get a return on any aftermarket parts. If your goal is to make yourself a motorcycle, you have the cash (emphasis on having the cash) and plan to keep it, you're better off building one. Especially if you can find a low mile used black RDRS bike. You won't have electric bag locks, but besides that you can make it better than a CVO, it just won't be cheaper, well unless you do all the work.

I think that not using the good lower end bearings on both the crank and cams of the twin cam engines was a big disservice to the Harley-Davidson brand. I don't plan on getting rid of it but I do think Harley should put the lower end parts in because of the price for these things. I paid 30K for it and it listed for 41K when new. With only 5K miles on it, it wasn't completely broke in yet. I did put a 30/30 cam in it and TAB 4.5's with the Zombie baffles and a bigger breather and it really came to life after that. If it doesn't say anything about upgraded cam plates and whatnot then I'm not going to assume it does, especially because if a Harley comes with an option there is a 0% chance they won't list that upgrade.

A friend blew a bunch of coin to have a 131 in her bike. Not impressed….. and her 131 blew up after 2,500 miles. They warrantied the motor but it still barely pulls away from my stock 114

I think they give you more power than the stock bike but you still getting that reliability versus a beefed up engine that you rebuild 30,000 miles later

I don't think the CVOs are worth the money or I would buy one. The paint is cool and if they had a year of paint that I really liked, I might seek one of those out and buy it like I did with my Tequila Sunrise. The slight performance increase and flashy paint are only part of the story though, there are many other nice little accessories CVOs have, like power locks on the bags, lighted switches, heated grips, speakers, and so on. I still don't think they're worth the money, but the engine and paint are only a tiny piece of the puzzle.

I have a 2021 Street Glide CVO. I know nothing about the engine (I wish I did). Reading your comments, I really need to learn. I have a 117 engine and after looking at these videos where they race them, I want you to put a 131 stage 4 in my CVO just to have more HP. Is it worth it?

I bought an ‘07 ultra Classic in 2011, with 23,000 miles on the clock. It now has 96,000. It’s been a great bike, but the oil pump failed a few years ago, and I got to rebuild it to my specs. I was dismayed that the cam plate and oil pump were same as any other Ultra. I had an SE Billet cam plate and high flow oil pump installed, it solved the oil issues. Also had the crank welded, balanced and pinned; to prevent another twisted crank issue. It now has a S&S 552 Cams and Fueling HP Plus lifters. Nice and quiet, unlike the SE lifters. The top end is all upgraded SE. I’d never pay retail for any bike. Buy one a few years old. It’s closer to their real value. Let someone else take the hit on depreciation.

Sad thing is, I could’ve bought a CVO and I quite honestly would’ve had to purchase every one of the upgrades I purchased for my non-CVO bike….. because the CVO bike comes with all the flash and glitter and frankly doesn’t come with anything practical….. like suspension, pure waste of money if you ask me.

? 2006 was an emissions nightmare. All the TC 88s had compensator and chain tensioner issues. 2007 and older had the small fuel tank, small frame and small rear tire. 2021 with RDRS and a 124" with a decent exhaust is in my opinion the best bike I've owned. 2003 electra glide ultra was by far my favorite paint job.

Until HD starts building quility bikes you are better off skipping HD all together, they are way over priced for what you get. When HD removed the better crank bearings that was their first mistake. Why not start with a bullet bottom end like a S&S crank that isn't pressed together ?

The Problem with the CVO is its not a doo deal. I still would change at a minimum the handlebars, lights, and exhaust. If you buy a non CVO bike you can make it your own and it will be better than a CVO for less. If you spring for a custom paint. You will have a one off bike.

@@aaronzavala7464 I don't believe they do. There was an owner that could not flash his bike after installation of a stage 4 131 kit by the dealership in a state other than California. The flash withe the SE tuner wouldn't go because it had a California vin designation. No California emissions BS was listed of sales invoice.

I was thinking of putting new cams in my trike. i was told that my crank has too much run out for the gear drive cam set. I was wondering if you could recommend a crank that is better built than a stock cam. I realize that I make have to have the cases machined if I do that also. I've watched a few KZbin videos to know what I might be getting into. I just need some advice about a very good crank.
