I have been a life long Cubs fan, grew up watching games with my Dad and grandfather, My Grandfather loved Harry, which in turn taught me to love him and his antics. My Grandfather passed in 96. then Harry in 98, Those both were huge losses to me. Never getting to hear Harry call the Cubs in a World Series, seeing them win, calling that final out in 16' I never thought someone I never met in person would ever live in my memories so fondly. Harry was one of the greatest of all time at what he did. The real fans will never forget you, you will always live on through us! Holy Cow

Great clip. His Cubs finally won it all this year. I'm sure he tipped a beer (or many beers) to them in that great diamond in the sky!

Harry was himself in a time when one could do this...He was not concerned whether you liked her or not?? Did you listen to the broadcast was the main thing... We were all lucky to live in the 60 and 70 s when Harry/Jack Buck-Cards...Ernie Harwell/Paul Carey-Tigers/Herb Score-Cleveland/Scooter and Bill White-Yanks and Ken Coleman-Boston were in their primes...Holly Cow...great times...These men are all Hall of Famers to me as broadcasters and human beings....

pa Millar I live in N. Indiana... my father bought one of those BIG TV antennas to watch the Cubbies in the early 60's. Every so often the Tigers would show up from the Grand Rapids station with Ernie and George Kell....

Was Paul Carey related to him?
@nalvarado13848 жыл бұрын
aquariex24 no. no relation. Harry's actual last name is Carabina. the station manager at WCLS in Joliette thought the name Carabina would sound awkward on the air. and suggested the name change for Harry. So no. Paul & Harry are not related for that matter.

It as the first 4 letters of his last name and add the y for Caray from the name Carabina. I am sure a lot of people the first time are surprised that Caray was not his actual last name, as that was the name they are used to, and you would expect people more of the lines of either an actor/actress, or even a singer to have a fake name if they have a long name that is hard to remember, but of all people you wouldn't expect too many sports announcers to have a name like this.

I never liked baseball when I was a child, or even now, as a near elderly man. The only reason I even listened to those Nort' side bums was because all the fun was happening in the broadcast booth with Harry. I have yet to hear another announcer (with the possible exception of John Miller, when he was still calling the game in Baltimore for the O's) that was as entertaining as Harry.
