The number of pubs in Ravensthorpe has declined significantly in the past two decades, with the Ravenswarf Hotel being the sole remaining establishment. I got the train from Greenfield to Mirfield and was gonna walk to Marsden down the canal and go a few pubs! Missed Mirfield accidentally and had to walk back from Ravensthope. Thought I was back in Oldham, not surprised there's no pubs when I looked around. Navigation is a nice pub though went in there. Loads of good pubs in Slaithwaite and Marsden too.

Yep, the first thing they tend to do is get jobs in the Local Authority's planning department, who being public sector are forced to hire a minimum quota of minorities, and see if their colleagues can be bribed by much wealthier rellies with portfolios of 12-20 properties into converting pubs into flats. Been quite a few landlords who have quietly reported they and their families being threatened if they don't sell up to Muslim (or Muslim-connected) developers.

I grew up around the corner from it and go in occasionally. It's not the worst pub in Dewsbury but the only thing that's changed in the last 30 years is the prices. Still pretty cheap though. £3.50 for a pint of Coors. Believe it or not, there are much worse pubs in the area.

Dewsbury and Batley used to have lots of cracking pubs and clubs. It's a totally different clientele to cater for now. Around 90% of the pubs in Batley have closed down in the last 20 years or so.

The Ravey Wobble. 1 left standing. Some are mosques or islamic centres now. The demographic changed.

The Ravenswharfe , which you visited, is the only pub, as far as I know, on the main road between Mirfield and Ossett. I think that this pub and the Crown on Leeds Road are the only two between Mirfield and White Rose.

Ravensthorpe used to be an independent town, but was never up to much. There's been a complete pub holocaust in the last few years, and not one is left! Royal opposite the church (boarded up); Ravensthorpe Hotel on the same side just to the west (Muslim charity offices) which used to be a John Smith's pub; the New Albion opposite which was Webster's; the Bull's Head down the road towards Mirfield, which was Tetley's but originally Ramsden's of Halifax; the Swan (demolished) just inside the Mirfield boundary which was good for gigs; Rosey's Bar along the road to the east which used to be the Flying Pig of Trough Brewery, Bradford and before that the Bowling Green (Sam Smith's allegedly, but I don't remember) and had the best beer recently; the Albion Hotel opposite and the Station which was up North Road towards Northorpe. EIGHT PUBS. ALL GONE! The one you went into, the Ravenswharf Hotel, is just over the old town boundary in Dewsbury proper and was a Whitbread pub. Before they had it, it was a Dutton's of Blackburn pub which did a great bottled pale ale called Green Label. I don't remember what the draught beer was like, because Whitbread took over Dutton's in 1967 when I was aged ten.
