Excellent video! I'm in perimenopause and started having pacs/pvcs/ day and night for months, and interestingly enough, they started soon after the pandemic hit. The last time I had palps was when I was pregnant (had to wear a holter then). I think it's a combination of my crazy hormones AND stress (pandemic) that brought them back with a vengeance. I can get bad runs of them that last off/on daily, for months! Had a full workup from my cardio, and heart itself is great he said. It's the electrical system, but after multiple tests for thyroid, etc., he and my electrophysiologist can't figure it out. I asked about hormones being the cause, and they kind of gave a neutral "uh, that could be". Watching this video confirms that vicious cycle of anxiety and palps, and the hormonal issues. Thank you!

Yes. When you get bad runs of these, where they don't stop, it's absolutely insufferable. I've had a thorough workup from cardiologist, endocrinologist, you name it, and everything checked out fine (aside from the benign pvcs/pacs of course). Beta blockers did absolutely nothing to help them and they drop my b/p too low, and I can only take half of the lowest dose. Frustrating!

After numerous appointments and countless tests, not ONE of the doctors or specialists I've seen were switched on enough to add 2 and 2 together and tell me that the PVCs I was experiencing were caused by perimenopause (I'm 53.) Every test that was mentioned, I did. Every lifestyle changes you can think of... I DID! Heck! I even payed to get a coronary calcium score which turned out to be flawless (zero artery blockage.) Thank you for uploading this video. You have put my mind (and heart) at ease and given me the answer I was seeking. Blessings from Australia.

Thank you so much for this video and the excellent information explaining these heart palpitations. I have been experiencing these off and on and am 48 years old. I believe that I am in perimenopause based on hot flashes, night sweats, heavy periods, change in mood, sleep, etc. There are times I wake up and am wide awake in the middle of the night. I feel bloated, weight gain around the middle. At times I feel a second or two of shortness of breath. The heart palpitations and occasional shortness of breath always seem to be followed by a hot flash but are definitely the scariest. I would get myself so worked up thinking that I was dying or about ready to have a heart attack the fear was almost paralyzing. I definitely do not feel the same way I did 3-4 years ago. Have never had any health problems and am glad to be healthy. This is such a transition in life it is nice to have resources like these videos available to get the information that helps get you through the process and to let you know you are not crazy and you are not dying! Thanks again so very much!!

I’ve been dealing with this for the past year around my period every month. Earlier in the year, it was accompanied with a burning sensation across my chest, up my neck and in my arms. I had an ultrasound done on my heart, a holter monitor and an event monitor. I had several episodes while wearing the event monitor and was told that everything was normal. I’ve been told that it’s probably just anxiety. No one wanted to listen when I said I thought it was my hormones. Thank you for making these videos!!

Thank you so much for this reassuring video!! 😭 I am a healthy 37 year old who started having palpitations out of the blue 2 months ago. That very night I had a panic attack and have had terrible anxiety since. It’s been a vicious cycle of not knowing where the mental and physical symptoms begin or end. This has been so unlike me and terrifying! Compounded by the fact that doctors don’t recognize it! I’ve seen 2 doctors, had the EKG, holter monitor, and blood test. Everything came back healthy, but there were some PVCs picked up on the monitor. Only through my own research and noticing that this started the day I ovulated and seems to pick up around key dates in my cycle, have I been able to piece together the cause. Why do we spend thousands of dollars on doctors and tests and still have to do our own research to get answers?! I will see my OB/GYN next and see if he can help me from here. THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

I am experiencing everything that was talked about and was recently diagnosed with PVCs and Rapid heart rate and although my doctor put me on beta blockers and told me not to worry, the feeling is horrible and I still worry. But to hear this clear explanation puts me at ease and now I can relax. I am 52 and these came on suddenly and were constant throughout the day. I am also experiencing hot flashes and insomnia so I am sure it is all part of menopause. Yay. 😑😑. But seriously, this video was so comforting. ❤️❤️

Hi, I have been already a patient of anxiety since 26 years and experience fast heart rate, PVCs , and all kind of beats. But in perimenupause it has increased and become more scary which is taking on my breathing. How are you doing and do you experience the same as me.
@AnnSarasvati Жыл бұрын
Just watching this two years after you recorded it. I have been having PVCs for years. Sometimes worse than others. I am 69 but these started probably 20 yeas ago when I went into menopause. I’ve been on metoprolol and recently doubled the dose as I was having a lot more and my chest hurt with the “flipping and flopping”. One thing that I now have is an Apple watch that can do a very clear and accurate EKG. It records onto your phone. That really helped me show my doctor what was happening and how often.

It also happened in a swimming pool a couple of months ago. I was literally just swimming in the middle of the deep end and I couldn’t get to the side. Life guard had to help me out of the pool. My doctor said I’m fine…

Boy did I need to see this video! My pvcs were triggered by lack of sleep and too many sweets and I suffer from anxiety. It's been a few days of waves of pvcs and it's soooo annoying. I'm also a hypochondriac so of course I have already seen a cardiologist and got the full testing and my heart is fine. I just have to make some lifestyle changes. When my pvcs stop, it's long time before they come back. Once I make that lifestyle change I'm ok. Hormones do make it worse as I get older. So if and when pvc strikes again, I will go back to this video for reassurance. Thanks again🥰

I’m 49 in perimenopause, Earlier in the year, I did go to the ED twice and went to a cardiologist. Did all the tests- Holter, echo, stress tests, thyroid, etc… no signs of ischemia. But it’s still nerve wracking when my resting HR was upwards of 160s earlier this year. I think as I learn more how to relax, the HR does not get as high. But your information helps me feel better.

This was so incredibly helpful and wish I'd found it months ago. I'm definitely perimenopausal and months ago began severe palpitations which I now know led to the cycle of anxiety and worsening palpitations. I never knew anything about menopause and palpitations til I did some googling. This STILL did not make me feel any better. I kept going back to thinking it had to be severe heart issues and I was going to die and leave my kids behind, just as Dr Lewis said here. I am constantly feeling my wrist pulse and feeling the irregular beat and thought this was for sure something like a fib or some kind of heart failure. This node explanation makes so much sense and putting the term PVC's to it, which I've heard of, makes me incredibly relieved. Now I would like for someone to tell me how long this could last...months, years, the rest of my life?? lol. BTW, I feel the PVC about once per minute or two BY FEELING THE WRIST PULSE. If I went by feeling the chest flutter it could be a couple per day to a dozen per day. This has been going on for 6 months now. In all of 2022 I had a few periods with my last one being Dec 2022. And the month before is about when these palpitations started and have continued and no period since Dec. I have a feeling that will be my last one ever since it's 6 months ago.

Where do I begin… this information has been a revelation to me since I have been trying to track my heart palpitations and related issues for years now. My PCP, GYN, and cardiologist have no thoughts on the matter other than wearing a halter monitor which picked up nothing. None of them has ever even heard of someone having her palpitations upon waking and during the day like I do. I did have some relief with a climara pro patch which should’ve been an indicator to someone to follow that train of thought with estrogen, but unfortunately no one did and I thought it was just masking some other issue I had. I will be seeking more help and am in the Boston area and, hopefully,I will be able to you Dr. Hirsch. I subscribed to your channel and find all of your topics so relevant and love your enthusiasm for teaching women how to feel better. Thank you!

I am 55 this July. My period came back last July after not having it for almost 2 years. My heart flutters, chest tightness, palpitations started shortly thereafter. Now I was scheduled for my 2nd vaccine that same day so I don't know if the heart issues are from period coming back or the vaccine. I took myself to the ER twice thinking my heart was coming out of my chest....had Ekg, chest xrays, wore Holter then went fir check up at my family doctor gad all the tests again and everything came back normal but I still have the chest tightness, flutters etc. It's not as bad as it used to be but it's almost still everyday that it happens. I'm making myself an appointment with a cardiologist as it's been 8 months since this first started. I was always told my heart was good abd it was all anxiety.

Thank you Dr Lewis for explaining the PVCs with estrogen crashes. I nearly went on disability last year due to having a physical job doing patient care. It took some trial and error of estrogen cream to progesterone combo patch w estradiol to oral progesterone w estradiol patch to improve my hot flashes and heart palpitations that occur all the time but seem worse at night. I would feel ‘swirling’ when the symptoms come on and then it would pass in seconds to minutes. I think I’m also seeing improvement on carnivore diet this past month, along with drinking water with salt and electrolytes.

Also thyroid conditions cause cardiac symptoms. There are many undiagnosed & improperly treated thyroid patients out there, especially menopausal & post menopausal when the thyroid malfunctions due to hormone changes. A holter heart monitor should be worn a minimum of 1-2 weeks to catch the full picture. 1-2 days may not show anything since palpitations come & go. Need to check all thyroid hormones...TSH, T4, T3. Include calcium too. Borderline thyroid values need to he treated. I suffered from years before a provider would assist me with Borderline hypothyroidism which led to full blown thyroid cancer which spread to my lymphnodes & took 2 years of my life & 10 years later still have to manage so much health wise.

@@CYndibabI No problem:) I feel good taking metropolol, but my cardiologist can’t find the cause of my racing heart. My blood pressure is normal. Some times a little high (around 135/88-138/90)because I suffer anxiety (it started after all of the tachycardias), but most of the time it is under control. I had a Dr’s appointment yesterday and I got my results for H. Pilory bacteria. They checked all of my blood leves including hormones and lipid panel. Everything was good except for H pilory and vitamin D3. My doctor explained that all of the symptoms can be caused by this bacteria (palpitations, anxiety, racing heart, weakness, etc). Metropolol works good for me because I don’t get episodes as often as I used to. I am starting a 15 day treatment to kill this bacteria and hopefully it helps. It’s interesting how an intestinal problem can cause all these symptoms. I’m just hoping it all goes away after the treatment. I also started taking vitamin D3 5,000 units because my levels were low.

Wow. I wish I could have a consult with you via virtual visit. I have spent thousands of dollars over the last year and a half for issues that i now believe are likely just hormone-related issues. It has been life-altering and, at many times, debilitating. I have been on FMLA for over a year just to keep my job. Do you ever see hot flashes or night sweats presenting as heart pounding, elevated blood pressure, nausea, trembling, and near syncope? My ER visits and primary care visits sent me away with diagnosis of panic attacks, but the episodes usually awake me from sleep, and less often, come on me during peaceful times of day, especially following exercise. Could it be a crazy sympathetic nervous system response to hormone fluctuations? Is this experienced by other women as well?

Not that I am aware of, however, its not a bad thought. You could always have it checked if your doc is checking some other labs at the same time.
