Too bad the total war series really underestimate Iranian factions and never do them justice. Parthians historically speaking were a very powerful faction the only other faction that rivaled Rome. They were an advanced culture, and their military ingenuity defined warfare for centuries to come. Everything from Knights, chainmail and composite bows were developed by Iranian cultures. The Parthians really defeated Romans and Hellenic factions on many different occasions while heavily outnumbered. The Iranic cultures and civilizations have always been really powerful. Its too bad total war historians and researchers dont do a better job with them.

If it would only be the "power" of troops i wouldnt mind it that much, but they dont get anything right in those movies exept some names. The second 300 movie was the worst ! They literally didnt do anything right, exept naming the protagonist Themistokles...

poisonedtanto They certainly "Asterix and Obelix"ed it up. Parthia was the one place Rome truly wanted to extent its empire with, all barbarian land beyond the Danube, Rhine and Hadrian's wall were deemed untamable and not very prosperous, besides, it would really stretch Rome's resources even thinner. Persia, on the other hand, was the one place that was rich and civilized. And, of course, bragger's rights for having Alexander's Empire Extended.

I totally disagree here the Iranian factions on this game are very devastating if used properly I think the issue is people just don't know how to use them I feel they are very powerful in this game.

Yeah. The one biggest complaint I have left about the game is how finicky cavalry is when like one of them gets hit by a light infantry man, they all stop their charge at the archers. They need an ignore contact option.

HeirofCarthage I actually have an army that I like with using Parthia. Only used it once but I think its a good mix of what Parthia can offer. It's not a one dimensional all cavalry army, has great range and good flexibility. 1 Noble Horse Archers 3 Parthian Horse Archers 2 Elite Persian Archers 4 Eastern Javalinmen 4 Persian Hoplites 3 Median Cavalry 3 Eastern Cataphracts What do you think, Heir?

My army comp for Parthia is only cavalry once I get to mid game. You can move around the map soooo quickly it’s insane. The downfall is that you cannot auto resolve the battles, you have to play every single one. It’s a lot of micro but I’ve obliterated enemies when auto resolve said decisive loss with only 10% remaining troops.

Heir do you remember Graal Knights from Rome 1 Barbarian invasion. They were a heavily armored cav unit for the Romano British and they really look like the cathafracts. So the screen shot isn't that strange. mostly because 1 in 5 Rome 1 barbarian maps had a stonehenge like structure somewere on the map. Keep Up The Good Work

The reason the Eastern spearmen are not necessarily poor spearmen is because historically the Persian-Eastern civilizations were actually very wealthy compared to the other civilizations. This however did not make them better warriors as you can see with their quality.

Well the sun was the sign of Mithra ... the Parthians or Iranian people were generally considered to be the guardians of Mithra and the mythical land of Ahura Mazda (Aryana aka IRAN). They Parthians or other Iranian armies often considered themselves to be the army of light ... hence the symbol of the sun. They also marched under that symbol

14:00 Heir The Parthian Cataphracts in front of the Stone Henge was an inspiration for my 250 turn long Parthian Campaign, with 3 generations of Parthian nobility to Conquer that Briton settlement that has Stone Henge. 😇 That was 5 years ago. BTW I killed everyone on the way Except Gauls and Carthage, out of empathy for the inspiration ;D P.S I would have saved the Iberians as they made up a bulk of Carthage army like Gauls, but the Gauls killed them already 🥲

One of my favourite factions...my army usually is: HA general, 3-4 chep HA, 5-6 swords, 2-3 eastern cataphracts, some camel spearmen for fear effect, 4-5 cheapest archers and 1 elephant units. Versatile and balanced build. Works wonders against virtually any other faction, even Bactria and Seleucids, though it may be challenging at times.

Just some things you forgot to mention. Noble horse archers are the only horse archers that decisively beat rhodian slingers in shootout. I think it only works one on one but they win by a fair margin. Not bad melee attack too.

Do you think that ca would put in the total war series where you can creat your own custom unit for campaign? you can make the ststa what you want or a point system and pick what they look like, shields, colors, type of weapons... i think it would be cool what about you guys?

***** You could fairly easily edit the units in empire, in the txt files etc and there were mods that permitted you to edit them I believe. My Swedish units in Empire for instance did not use bayonets, because the Caroleans were all issued rapiers, hence I gave them swords and this significantly upps their damage.

you can't leave shock cav in melee in patch S&W, even cataphracts. They last longer in melee than other shock cav, but that doesn't mean that it's smart to stay in melee with catapracts.

When you do start your unit focuses, could you do one on the Nervii Fierce Swords? Maybe have them face a unit of Naked Warriors. But either way, you'll see that their stats make them pretty worthless compared Celtic Warriors.

I love how people counter pick so often. I understand that you want to win the match, but it's just useless to even try to play as cav faction, since they will always counter you with spear faction. They should hide the faction logo, or at least force you to pick specific faction before the match, and then you'd have to play as that faction. I've just given up with the MP since I always get countered, no matter what faction I play as, and if I try to counter, then the match just ends up as a huge counter fest, filled with tears, laughter and curses.

I respectfully disagree man. A mix of horse archers, shock cavalry, and cavalry can easily take out a spear armed faction. Circle the army and shoot at them. split them up. take out their skirmishers so they have to run for you. use cavalry or horse archers on other cavalry. then they will just chase you with their useless wall of spears with no skirmishers and no cavalry to help them. the next part is beautiful. SURROUND AND SHOOT THE HELL OUT of them. and surround and get flanking charges with Cataphracts. You don't know how to play as Parthia if you don't know that Parthia is the strongest faction.

omid nasrollahi well skirmishers like archers can counter archers so all they need to do is protect their archers and the cavalry will be forced to find a opening to defeat the enemy army

Probably the best way to use Parthia is as a calvary-heavy army,but that requires a far bit of micro-managment as well.

The problem with that is that's what everyone expects Parthia to do. More often than not, you'll end up facing a pike box with slingers or archers on the inside. To counter that, you need to bring your own foot skirmishers, and troops to protect those skirmishers, or else you just can't crack open the box. I usually bring Parthian swords to protect them against infantry and Persian hoplites for the cav. Heir did something similar here, except he bought elephants as his infantry killers instead of swords, which would have been great if it weren't for the fact that his opponent brought archers instead of slingers, which from what I've seen are rather uncommon online. His elephants did more damage to him in this match than his opponent did, and in my opinion that cost him the match.

Rellana1 Almost cried when he sent Elephants to finish off cavalry, going for his troops, instead of Cataphracts. I mean... here enemy has lots of archers and sees Elephants in range and among enemy troops. I wonder what will happen. That, and he lost Cataphracts on eastern flank without racking up that many kills.

I've yet to see a battle where elephants have justified their cost. Cheap pike units and skirmishers have such an easy time killing them that their cost rarely justifies their threat to sword infantry and melee cav. Most factions have multiple avenues of attack on them. Often, as above, they are more of a liability than an advantage owing to them being liable to run amok...

Installed a mod which required a new game maybe? or uninstalling a mod with which you have been playing your campaign? Usually it has something to do with mods but if youre not using mods i dont know. Try verificating your game cache through steam.

There's a reason why the East got owned by the Hellenic Factions. Most of them rely on Calvary and skirmishers while using infantry as fodder, all of which Greek military can counter.

Striker345ify Who says it has to be 100% accurate? I don't know where you are getting your info, but historically Greeks and the East have been rivals for many years. It wasn't until the Macedonian phalanx came around from Phillip II that made them overpower both Greece AND the Achaemenid Empire. And yes, the phalanx is good in this game. By the way, it's not calvary, it's cavalry.

The main problem in this battle wasn't anything you said, it was that the difference between your losses and the actual number they killed was about 300 men elephant stomped. i think if you'd kept your elephants back for the whole battle you would have won

The problem with these kinds of videos is that they focus on just one aspect of the game.....military units.....the game is not just about sending one stack of units against another and hoping to prevail....u must learn to approach the game holistically......spies....subterfuge....intelligence about the enemy....the terrain on which u are fighting....the fighting experience of each unit.....building up a network allies and client states so that an enemy will not just have to deal wit u but a dozen other factions who support u.....once u take all these things into account the game is really really challenging and fun.....if u just focus on only the military aspect u wil have a hard time winning.....even with factions like rome.....

the whole point of the faction focus series is to look at the factions from a multiplayer prespective... which is only military. Maybe watch some play-thru's if you want a more "holistic" viewing of a faction but this series is purely for mutiplayer
