There's no fear associated with fomo, but also, every single week there's something new. It could be tomorrow that we have a new stratagem, or new objective, enemy, anything. One of the major reasons why HD2 has been able to pump out so much content is because they have a big content backlog that is already mostly made and just needs polishing. They made a live service game and then ensured that the "live" part of live service could actually be provided. All the leaks we've seen, all the vehicles and guns and what not, the only reason why modders were able to mod that content in and play with it is because it was already there for the most part. Arrow Head studios made a finished game instead of a "rush now, finish later" disappointment and they are now being rewarded for their years of effort. Knowing that things are only going to improve from here fills me with a ton of excitement for the game

One reason I think this game in particular is so successful at keeping itself fresh, is that they don't have nearly as many production concerns as most PvE focuses live games. No highly produced custcenes with detailed facial animations, no need to pay celebrities to voice NPC's. That stuff costs a ton of money and time to polish. That and I'm sure most of what we've seen in these couple of months was more or less complete when the game launched. For YEARS I've been looking/waiting for something that had a sense of purpose in it. Unlike games such as COD - DMZ, selling me shit every other week for more then third of the price of the game then wants me to extract 7 screw drivers and 20 bottles of wine while being chased by some dummy campers snipping all session from the roof of one building ... fck that!!! ... Thank You Arrowhead for bringing out Helldivers 2 - this game is a freaking life. It is not a money grab but real content for gamers, it is one of the few games that would make sense to play and the only one game I'd actually put on my daily priorities ever!! There are three exciting things in my life - my super hot wife, my Audi S5 thats breaking my neck and Helldivers 2 that let's me blow the shit up for democracy !! There is not any other game to deliver such satysfying feeling as of calling an airstrike, whether a clusters or 500 kg bomb - it is hillarious when pieces of shreded armor or torn parts of bugs bodies would then land near me as an outcome and just alowly burn away. Fck yeah - nothing like sacrifice my life to safe my budies running away from bunch of Automatons because theyve run out of ammo or aint havent got time to reload ... just cut these dawn the way youd like - shoot them, burn them, microvawe them, laser them, electocute them, blow them up, drop the pod on them ... that never gets old And why? Because when the major order is done people go on discord and celebrate together their colective success while weeding out posisble bot or bug sympathisers ... Ive never seen anything more life like worth then Helldivers 2 ... here, take my money, I'd buy 3 copies of this game just because Arrowhead deserves every penny ... with their effort and rolling out stuff and story twists and - of course - they have Joel cooking scenarios for us ... no other gmae has Joel - Joel is a legend !! And Helldivers 2 will go down the history as one of the most genre cutting and entertaining games in history ...

I think Arrowhead has a ton of content that was already ready to ship when the game launched and they're deliberately holding most of it back so it can be rolled out over time. This would explain the amount of content being added in such a short time. There are stories of Joel dropping into random games and calling in vehicles that aren't officially part of the game yet. If so, it's a bold and risky move that shows how much faith Arrowhead has in its core gameplay loops to launch with just a fraction of the content and features available.
@ABFPV5848 ай бұрын
I had that happen to me once but idk if it was him, different gamer tag. This person dropped the vehicle then got into passenger seat and waiting, so naturally I just started ripping that shit around assuming they wanted to see it tested. It got stuck about due to the terrain, and I’m wondering the newer more open maps were a response to findings like that. Not solely from me, but just saying how cool it is they design reflexively to the player, seeking to understand first rather than just giving us something broken.

Its quite simple why Helldivers 2 feels so different from every other live service game. All other games in the live-service, or in the game industry in general, focus on offering the same experience to all players, and to be able to catch players up on old content as well. They live in a constant battle of delivering new content and also maintaining old content because they usually set up a campaign, or story, or something and that's the game! Everything is built around a single pillar experience. What makes Helldivers 2 unique is that it is built on the experience of NOW. Whoever you are, whenever you join, what happened in the last season, in the last month, in the last week, in the last patch, doesn't matter because there is an on-going storyline. This is the same reason people love D&D, because it not just a live service - its a live experience. There is someone directing the thousands upon thousands of players and they tell you that even though you may be doing the same mission types over and over - each time you do it - IT MATTERS. You watch the map change, you get new orders, you see everyone around you cheer and jeer as the situation changes. All other games feel like a single place. You have to go in, learn all the streets, learn how to survive in them, learn the best deals and the way to thrive in a single place that slowly expands. Helldivers 2 feels like you are on a freak'n mobile command center with thousands of other players hanging on for dear life and shooting absolutely EVERYTHING that gets in your way. Ride on Helldivers. We all ride on.

I love the way they brought in the screeches. It starts with a major order to cull the bugs with a new mission spreading neurotoxin. Then some rumers and the occasional flying bug in a someone's game. Now they're a standard in most bug missions and the propaganda around how it's DEFINITELY not due to the neurotoxin but inevitable evolution. Man I love this game!!

@TankHunter6788 ай бұрын
@@cobaltss50 Well as for Lore, Helldivers 2 takes place 100 years after the first game. The Cyborg Rebellion was put down, though they had managed to hide the automatons they had designed. The first contact with the bugs went poorly but the Element-710 they decomposed into turned out to basically be super oil and they were preserved for the sake of the Super Earth economy. The currently yet to be released Illuminate faction was had their tech, including the WMDs they had, seized following their defeat. In HD2 Super Earth acts like they were wiped out, but given that the Illuminate were capable of mind control they were most likely simply convinced they had wiped out the Illuminate so that the Illuminate could prepare to bring some payback. Overall the lore is not particularly deep, the game is basically a satire of militarism and various military campaigns.
@cobaltss508 ай бұрын
@TankHunter678 I appreciate the deep dive into the lore, I've always wondered what was true and what was not, so many fans have made crazy good fake lore content so it's hard to know what is true lol. It's crazy how simple it is by design but it makes me think deeply about the truth and what is really going on I question alot of the actions, probably intentionally done by the developers for players to possibly think like that. I instantly thought about star ship troopers and the military aspect with the wmds and the patriot aspect for the cause.

About a month or two ago, a friend had asked me if I was going to buy Helldivers 2. I hadn't heard of the franchise before, and with no context. I was lukewarm on it because my friend group tends to bounce around games from week to week before I can really get settled into and enjoy any one particular game. I told them that I was worried that I was going to buy it and then forget about it in a few weeks when the group focus shifted to something else, like with what happens every time we try to play Destiny 2. Weeks later, I may not be playing it everyday, but I'm still logging in fairly regularly and playing an op or two because I'm excited to see what happens next in this narrative, and what crazy things might happen on the battlefield this time. I've never felt like this game is demanding a commitment or my attention unlike all of these other Live services. Arrowhead has done something wonderful here, and I hope and pray that it lasts for a good long while. At least long enough that other developers will get the hint about what makes a game good and what will get them new, loyal customers.

The game mechanics won't really allow for something like this due to the stratagems and how important they are to the game play. I have thought of similar ideas to this that would be sweet to see, but then after thinking it through further I always come to that same conclusion. One of my favorite ideas being cave systems. Imagine how cool it would be to be forced into a bug cave system to actually DEAL with a hive. It would be dark and almost horrific at times having to rely on flashlights but then how do you access any stratagems. The same would go for boarding ships unfortunately once you're no longer out in the open it basically breaks that gameplay mechanism. 🫤

We all gave each other hugs, then dropped into the mission, blew up a shit ton of robots and worked as a team. This beats the hell out of a competitive shooter where the person with the best aim bot or cheat wins and you keep getting smashed by someone who does nothing else but play the game, and you have to have a life. Hell divers has created a community but forcing people to work together in the structure of the game. They were horrible and not practical in battle but it showed us that the developers are part of the community. They do not claim to know what the player base wants, rather they are listening and learning just like the players. I feel like most game developers have the tendency of insulting the intelligence of the gamer by creating content that they assume is good for the gamer. The political commentary and real-life issues, celebrity cameos, and expensive skins at the expense of actual gameplay.

SES Eye of Conviction reporting in. I am happy to say that this game is incredible. it has helped me through a very rough month, and it continues to provide me with a much needed escape from reality. There is no politicking. There is no bait and switch. I play this casually (about 1-2 hours a day, which is about 1-2 full mission sets a day) and I am fully satisfied with it. I log in every day to check the personal orders and the major orders, and to see what shenanigans are happening that day. I don't need much else. The game isn't perfect, but it *IS* above and beyond pretty much every other online game on the market right now. I only hope that I don't get burnt out, and that the Ministry of Development don't forget to do their solemn duty and provide us with the best they can give. So much so they have had to re-release upgraded versions of their iconic first warframes to keep them relevant. Warframe has a grind you also cannot ignore. There are best upgrades for every frame and every weapon. You will grind for those hard. It is not like HD2 where what you start with is absolutely worth using everywhere. I have done a Helldive mission using the starting armor and rifle already and been completely effective. You absolutely cannot do that in Warframe.

The major orders absolutely must be the priority. Failing them will always increase the difficulty everywhere.

Another big reason why helldivers 2 proves that live service can work wonderfully comes down to one word, passion. Just the amount of passion Arrowhead pumped into this game made it clear to me in the first hour of gameplay that taking risk AND keeping passion alive is what separates good games from the bad ones. we need more passion in modern gaming. proud to be swedish when a small indie developer from stockholm knocks it out of the park like this. They don't know how to operate in the market at a double A level much less a quadruple A level. I think I've spent 90 dollars on Helldivers 2 so far. It will be 90 when I drop in 10 for the new war bond. Got no problems with that because they didn't try to FOMO me. It's not a very hard paywall so I feel like I could earn the SCs in game if I wanted to. I feel no pressure to pay them money, so I have no reservations about paying them money. Pressure stops me from giving live services money. You pressure me, and I won't pay.

@@WeeWeeJumbo If the game were free with MTX as their only source of income, I'd agree, but the game does cost $40 up front. And given the _millions_ of sales the game has gotten, that's _tens of millions_ in revenue, amid only around 100 employees. It's all about ratios; when a company has many hundreds of employees (as well as investors, publishers, etc.) and the production of the game costs potentially millions to make alone, the game needs to sell many millions of copies just to break even. Meanwhile, if a game is produced on a reasonable budget by a fairly lean company, without oversight from greedy investors or publishers, then it doesn't need to sell nearly as many copies comparatively. So long as they put the money they've already earned to use intelligently, don't overstep their bounds by getting greedy, and don't become a bloated company with too many employees to pay, as well as getting at least a bit of a drip-feed of income from MTX purchases, they should be fine pretty much indefinitely. All they really need to do is stay the course because they've already got a winning formula.

Sure, there’s satirical, political undertones to the story, but it’s done from a place of humor. We can ALL get behind it together, as it’s not divisive in the least. Yeah. ME3 was great because the content (new levels, difficulty, weapons, and characters) were "free". As in everybody got access to them. But everything but the levels were only accessible through loot boxes and while you got them at a steady enough pace if playing on higher difficulties (in game), paying real money felt incentivized. It just wasn't as manipulative as many games have been since. I will say one thing though. The TYPE of fun I have in HD2 reminds me a lot of the type of fun I had in ME3 multiplayer. As a fan of the Starship Troopers book. First movie too. I digress. I want to see the exosuit get some options like swapping an arm with a flamethrower or 3 mini nukes instead of 15 rockets(maybe could be a ship module rather than individual strategems). A larger "hypersonic" spear like weapon that requires a backpack and targeting grenade that you and/or teammates would need to equip at start but could be used from anywhere on the map. Teammate on other side of map throws grenade and as long as you fire in the general direction, democracy is brought the enemy. Also an event based mini game or that happens at the beginning of a mission type where you are being shot at from the ground still in your pod and have to deploy chaff and avoid being shot out of the sky. Could be fun. Honestly could be awful too
