As you Back to the Future fans probably know, Marty McFly was set to arrive yesterday, October 21, 2015 at 4:29PM. As tribute to the movie, Arx Pax hosted an open house at their office in Los Gatos, California. Here they talked about their pursuit to create the best, cost efficient hover technology.
The Hendo 2.0 has increased steering capabilities. Tony Hawks son rides it at the very beginning. Later in the video, the original Hendo hoverboard has being used.
Enjoy! But please remember that hover technology which Arx Pax is interested in is earthquake related, not just recreational despite how cool the Hendo 2.0 is!
See more at www.theverge.com/tldr/2015/10/...
EDIT: Over the years since the release of this video, there has been a noticeable conglomeration of ignorant people in the comment section. Because of my enjoyment in stamping out stupid, I will allow these people to entertain me every once in a while. This is the extent of my interest in the comments of this video now. Feel free to leave a stupid comment!

Needs a special surface,no forward propulsion,no directional control,can hold your breath about as long as the battery lasts,but at least that's all offset by the high pitched whining.Looks like a winner for sure.

I get that the technology is innovative and has potential applications elsewhere but, real talk, it doesn't look fun. You push off and just kind of slide along slowly while spinning... it would be cool for about 2 minutes.

+alex krueger It is very fun for some people, not really designed to be fun though. Since it was an open house, and a Back To The Future tribute one at that, it made sense for it to be interactive with the audience and to be a "hoverboard". It would not be as interesting to people if there was just a bunch of scaled downed building hovering. It might also invite someone to smash it and scream "what is this? A building for ants!"

+ConcludedFever9 I was like fuck this guy n his saying a building demo wouldn't be interesting, I like x sports but im still intelligent enough to be able to appreciate that kind of demo, I saw the destruction from quakes in Japan not just long ago, I know California is going to fall into the sea any day now and how this tech might just save California, Oregon, and my awesome state of Washington from being shaken to ruble! but then you made that zoolander joke n I decided I love you.

Its literally magnets and only works on conductive surfaces. They have never tried to hide that. It works by spinning alternating magnetic faces very quickly causing the copper plating to form a magnetic field that repels the magnets in the engines

1/2 inch thick square foot of copper costs in 2023 is around $687. A 10X10 copper floor would cost ~ $68,700 USD.

No. They use permanent magnets, put them in a circular halbach array and then spin them really fast. When that happens over a material like copper or aluminum (Not a ferromagnetic metal, like iron) current is induced - which creates an oposing magnetic field. That is whats creating the thrust, on the four round cylinders above the copper.

I will believe it when I see it. Any of it. Buildings? Anyone using a board outside of a press demo? The only thing I see if the focus being shifted to floating buildings on water to save them from earthquakes but there are so many other questions rising from that. So far it is basically hot air which, as it happens, is a far better way of getting around than a hover board!

Love all the people complaining about this without actually knowing what it is about. People these days do not do the proper research before making inane comments just to complain. This tech is not about a hover board to play with it is about the ability to move objects up to and including large buildings using magnetic levitation. This tech has been speculated about for a very long time and has even been considered one of the ways large stones were moved for ancient world monuments. Consider this tech put in a personal conveyance vehicle that has other control devices installed. With a slight manipulation of the magnetic field you could move that vehicle in any direction with very little resistance other than that offered from environmental conditions. Magnetic field propulsion is where the future is and would remove dependence on crude oil and it's products. Can you imagine the savings worldwide, just in tire production and disposal, amazing what this techs potential is. I also see this tech being used for those that are movement impaired, such as those that are paralyzed or missing limbs. Making a product that could move them without the dependence or limitation of tires and surface condition would be amazing. Now on the potential bad side, this tech could be used to develop (already has) weapons that do not require a propellant such as gunpowder. You will hear these items commonly called rail guns but they are really magnetic propulsion weapons. A gun that shoots a needle at the speed of sound that makes no noise is not just in fantasy stories or in the movies, these things exist. Just some thoughts and personal opinions.
@madscientistshusta
@madscientistshusta 8 жыл бұрын
what your saying about railguns is a little misleading, due to terminal velocity (the maximum speed an object can reach due to Newton 3rd law has a cap in non vacuumed spaces) so shooting a needle at insane speeds will still be relatively harmless to the human body. The real plan for railguns is for the speculated warfare that will arise during asteroid mining in the future. (space is a vacuum, thus in space we can use the laws of thermodynamics to our advantage and shoot a golfball made of say a mathematically realigned carbon molecules in a perfect matrix(aka a man made diamond spheroid) at say 10% of the speed of light and effectively creating a kinetic bomb far more powerful than an atomic bomb, far more precise and with zero nuclear fallout)

madscientistshusta A needle made of depleted uranium would cause some serious damage to a human body. A steel ball of about 3mm in size in a grouping of 1000 will peal the armor off a tank in about 30 seconds. I have seen some of these items in operation and they are impressive.
