In this video i show you how to fix a common power steering hose leak. The small leak occurs when the stock clamp is not applying enough tension on the hose allowing small portions of fluid to escape. By replacing the stock clamp with a new one it can stop your leak and save you $$$. If you found this information useful dont forget to give the video a thumbs up and like always thanks for watching.

Wait a minute dude, like you said the hose swells over time and the clamp CUTS THE HOSE so why not REPLACE THE HOSE instead of putting another style clamp on a hose that has a CUT in it. If this is the case that clamp will not help your problem. Mine did the same thing and I had to REPLACE THE HOSE. My hose was swollen but new clamps will not help. Ten dollars says your hose will leak again down the road. For everybody watching this, if you went as far as disconnecting the old hose and clamp then go ahead and REPLACE the OLD HOSE with a new one and put it back together and never worry about it again. This is the best thing to do.

This means it swells up, and the oem clamp no longer keeps the same amount of tension so it leaks not because the hose it's damaged. This worked perfectly for me and others that have commented down below. Thanks for watching.

The factory constant tension clamps will do a better job. They won't start unwinding because of heat and oil basically lubricating the worm screw. Those garden hose clamps you're using are the worst at damaging hose. If you must use that style, use Norma hose clamps. Threads are only on the outside and they have rolled edges.

in this video you can see it has constant tension clamps and the hose was leaking so it only works for a few years but eventually they will not hold tension and leak

The clamps screw tends to loosen after a while due to vibration. Hence, applying a thread locker while tightening the screw helps reduces loosening.

Just did this. Confirmed the leak was from a hose that was loose because of the old clamp. Put the new clamp with thread locker on the new clamp so the screw doesn’t get undone. Also used power steering fluid stop leak fluid as a just incase. Will tell y’all if this works for me. Mechanic quoted me a couple hundred and said I needed to replace everything cause of the leak.

Similar thing happened to my Nissan Altima, I took it to have the leak on my steering wheel fluid repaired, they replaced the hoses because that's why it was leaking, a few days later it was still leaking when I took it back to the shop, they found the problem, it was a loosen clamp, they tightened it up, and that what stopped it from leaking anymore!
@andrewcoulter525
@andrewcoulter525 Жыл бұрын
This will work but the real reason that it's leaking is that the hose is failing. Hoses get brittle over time with heat cycles. When this happens they fail to conform with the mating surface of the pipe they are connected to and a leak occurs. Using an adjustable clamp as done here allows for greater compression to stop the leak but the risk is that over-tensioning the clamp can damage the pipe (especially if it is an old plastic pipe which may also be becoming brittle). A better solution is to replace the hose and reuse the original clamp but this is more expensive.

Hey I have a couple videos I just took of my problem areas such as the power steering leak, but also a coolant leak I Just now noticed because I actually put coolant in this time instead of water. Don’t hesitate to tell me no to this question but is there a way I can get these two short 10-15 second clips to you and or maybe a easier chatting method, I mean technically it is kinda your fault that I do not trust taking the car to the repair shop lol, so I mean if you can sleep at night not knowing if I’m pouring brake fluid into my radiator or something amateur like that then by all means tell me no..🤣

HELP....I have a 2004 Volvo V70. The power steering fluid is leaking. Mechanic said it's not the pump and, says it's the Rack and pinion??? I tried Lucas Stop Leak and, it did not work. PLEASE HELP

I have this same issue. Been dealing with it a very long time & MANY mechanics have looked at my vehicle. One told me rack & pinion as well & I changed it after changing my power steering pump. I had lost contact with my dad & he also fixes cars... he told me it's my hose. He is the only one who's mentioned that's what it was & I'd bet my money on it. Try that before waiting so much as I have dealing with this. Recently because of the leak it caused my serpentine belt to slip & break. Its spraying so bad it was everywhere even on my hood.

@@tasha9650 Thank you for your comment. Unfortunately the so called, "mechanic" that mentioned a hose, doesn't know how to return calls. The one that first said he thought it was the pump is the one who switched it up to the rack and pinion. I don't know who to trust because they take older women for fools.

I completely understand. They take WOMEN in general as fools, no matter the age. I'm female also but I know quiet a lot about cars. I can change a tire, oil, tune up, power steering pump, I changed my hood, headlights etc... Many try saying rack & pinion because with the parts & labor your looking at at least $900.00+. My father works on cars but I'm from Ga & currently live in NC. He told me mine is spraying everywhere because it's the hose. Again, my rack & pinion & pump were changed. In fact, my pump was changed twice thinking maybe they'd given me one messed up from the auto store.
