If they only put the car in it's proper context and frame and match it's specs with their needs , they will get the best of it. But if they buy it and expect it to be a sports or luxerious car then they are wasting everybody's time.

Kaddahy Mohamed from all reports, their engines run like a Swiss watch and if driven sensibly without abusing it and serviced properly, I can't see any reason they wouldn't last well beyond Scotty's figure, especially the manual. These cars are already gaining cult status because they refuse to follow the crowd. Instead of throwing unwanted gadgets at them and charging through the nose, they stick with what buyers actually need and want and U.S sales are reflecting that. The fact they are popular in the third world is a testament to how trouble free they are, not something to sneer at.

Davidal G don't crash and reliability doesn't lie. They are safer than small cars used to be and plenty of people drove micro cars in the past. They don't want more things going wrong with endless computer aids. They certainly don't want gadgets like Mazda's Skyactive technology.

That generation of Mirage was much better than the current one. Barrio, an car will last half a million miles of they're almost all highway. The only reasons to buy one now are price and for teenage girls they come in bright pink and purple, otherwise the Sonic (only with standard transmission) and Fiesta are both much better. The Yaris and Fit are probably good too, but I personally don't care for them. Keep in mind none of the as are e expensive cars, so there aren't many people that can afford a new Mirage, but not a new Sonic.
@djkenny1202
@djkenny1202 5 жыл бұрын
I disagree. Fit is a $16500 base car. That trim is the base LX. A Mirage at $10,000 is more affordable by far and much better mpg, warranty. Sonic is a GM product, which is not a good long term option. Plus it still cost like 15 grand.
@db60615

Let's really do the math here......A car that's only 10k, gets 44mpg, cost $20 or less to fill up, and has a 10yr 100,000 mile warranty, plus a lifetime engine guarantee.........Is there really anything to debate??? The Mirages are having several customers at the 150k-200k mark with no issues whatsoever. The car is built to last! I bought a 2015 brand new, and I now have 141k miles on it with no issues. Its really a great car. Go to Toyota, Honda, or any dealership in America and tell them you want a brand new car for 10k with a 10yr warranty, and watch how fast they show you the door!

@@amandahuginkiss4098 well the last snow in San Francisco was I think in 2011 or so, so i didn't own the Mirage yet. But on cold days the car starts very easily. But it takes a little bit for the heater to completly blast hot air. But is a very light weight car so I don't think that traction could be a problem on those cars.

Too true. I had a 2014 Mirage. It wasn't a perfect car, but for the 4yrs and 56k miles I had it, it was a great economy car. Cheap to run! That's what it's designed to do. It was slow and noisy, but it was the perfect car for puttering around on city streets where traffic is usually not doing more than 35-45mph max. Take her out on the highway and you wish you had something quieter and more powerful though. For $10k-$12k, it's a great value. A comfortable, dependable brand-new car with a 10y/100k mile warranty for that kind of money is excellent. I miss mine. Toying with the idea of getting another one, but I'd like something that's a better travel/interstate car.

Hey Scotty, Mitsubishi put a timing chain in their entry level sub compact Mirage. What other manufacturer would do if not to establish reliability reputation for the Mirage? This is a great car, I uber mine, and have 140K miles with not one mechanical issue. I changed the front break pads at 120k, serpentine belt, plugs, coolant flush and manual gear box oil change. Other than regular maintenance, this car is bullet proof. The only knock on this car would be the crappy exhaust system. The hangers wear out quick and you get a rattle at idle and the baffle is broken and makes noise around 3k rpm witch is annoying. Other than this, I've been pleased with this vehicle.
@MyWatchIsEnded
@MyWatchIsEnded Жыл бұрын
I recommend using a rubber absorbent spray such as silicone spray to treat the rubber components like those hangers in order to prevent them dry rotting and disintegrating. Honestly using these treatments for all the rubber components will make the vehicle longer lasting because it's not falling apart in regards to all the rubber components like vacuum lines etcetera.

The Mitsu wasn't built for car enthusiasts and you can't compare it to a CPO car. It was built for someone who wants a car with a damn good warranty, one that has pretty much no miles, and will last quite a long time, and for someone who just wants to get from point A to point B.

I'd imagine the Mirage is a good car for seniors, and maybe for parents that want to put their teenager in a reliable car with modern safety features and no maintenance "surprises." I can also see it being used as an enthusiast's second car. You keep your nice shiny toy in the garage during the week, and drive the shitbox Mirage to work everyday where the sun will slowly destroy it and other cars will bump into it.

All electrics, low range gears, everything else worked fine. My dad also had a mitsubishi 1.6 sedan for 11 years, no issues at all other than general maintenance... You really should think about a transmission service at every 30,000 miles. Its not a quick car, and that's okay. Super efficient for short commutes to work. The audio system isn't awful either. Back in 2010, Hyundai offered a bare bones Accent with an MSRP of under $10k. The model was called the Blue. It had a manual transmission with no radio and no a/c. There weren't many of these models actually available. I assume it was a ploy to get people into Hyundai dealerships where they could be talked into a pricier model (there were ads for it online). Well I wanted the Blue model, so I had one ordered in from a couple of states away. I drove it off the lot for $11k after taxes and fees. I installed a headunit, Polk Audio speakers and a subwoofer to turn it into a very fun car. 8 years later, I have 104k miles so far with no problems except the power steering, which I solved by chopping off the belt. A car that small doesn't need power steering, it's still easy to drive without it. Minimalist motoring at it's finest! The Mitsubishi Mirage is a compelling car. It would be at the top of my list if I was in need of a new car right now.

Bought a used '14 mirage over a year ago. So far zero mechanical issues (manual transmission) and the fuel economy is very good. Keep in mind, it's easy to get 40-50mpg with air conditioning turned off, but if you turn it on, you'll get closer to 35 with normal driving. Still pretty much the best it gets before going hybrid and you'd never make up the difference in cost by fuel savings.
@palebeachbum
@palebeachbum 5 жыл бұрын
I routinely averaged 39-41mpg in my 2014 Mirage with AC on pretty much all the time here in Florida doing suburban driving. That was with slightly fatter aftermarket tires and an out of camber rear wheel.
@StefanBacon
@StefanBacon 5 жыл бұрын
@@palebeachbum the rear alignment issue is a major defect that affects my car too. There is no adjustment and mitsu + dealers are ignoring it for the most part. That said, new buyers can just get their car checked within the first year by an independent shop when it's under adjustments warranty and then have the work done if needed. The cvt has a major advantage in economy due to it's 1:7 overall ratio spread with the low range gear. Commuting 20 or so miles to work every day, i get mine up to 75 or 80 every day and that's 3750-4000rpm in 5th gear. Any semblance of economy goes away after about 60mph (3000rpm) and that's just too slow to be safe in my city's traffic.

Mirages are most popular in Southeast Asia. So low cost, efficiency and durability are what they’re all about. You can fix the things with 2 popsicle sticks, a rubber band and a 10mm socket. It’s been perfect to learn car repair on and the computers aren’t excessive. During these times my Mirage is saving my A$$. I wish I had gotten a manual but I wasn’t as smart 3 years ago. Even with the gas prices these days ($5 per gallon) I fill up for 35 bucks and can drive up to 350 miles on a single tank. It accelerates like trash because I don’t abuse mine and the timing chain is waaay overbuilt for that 74 hp engine. On the Mirage forum, nobody has had timing chain issues, including a guy that maintains an entire fleet of them. Parts are expensive but it will be a while before you’ll have to buy them so nbd.

Hi Scott , Firstly thanks you for all your videos, I really love your show. Anyways about this video about Mitsubishi mirage, I like to attache a story to it that really happen. A friend show me pictures of an accident where minivan crash Mirage from behind with 80 KmH and the whole passenger room in back are press together like Acordeon. So I guess Mirage is one this origami Japanese vehicle right?
