4 1/2 months and 9k miles later I can say none of these are actually issues at all.. the radio buttons are easy to read and see. if you can't figure out how to use the push button for the shifter then you honestly shouldn't be driving, also fingers naturally fall to the correct button positions after a few drives in it. The door locks, honestly we just use the remote 90% of the time anyway. the button to set following distance is right on the steering wheel, you can choose between 1-4 car lengths distance for it and will show on the instrument cluster.

So, my wife’s new 2020 palisade limited. Talked me out of getting another explorer. Her car, her choice, but I can tell you some things I don’t like about this car. 1. I’m an airline pilot. Pretty used to complicated equipment and procedures. But this car is seriously more complicated than any we have ever owned. It’s not just a casual browse of the user manual, but we literally sat for about 4 hours in the car with the manual to go over things. The good news is that there is very little that cannot be customized or changed. But the bad news is that it’s a long process. And with multiple drivers having different opinions, etc... since I’m not the usual driver, I don’t have the menus down pat and it takes me time to refamiliarize with things when I drive the car. I can also say that at first, there are so many distracting things overloading your brain, it’s easy to get distracted with all these gadgets and stop looking outside. New pilots are prone to this phenomenon and it is a deadly combination on the ground or in the air for us, and the remedy is lots of training. So discipline yourself to this condition and read and study things in a safe environment. Trying to turn off the lane keeping or fiddle with menus while in traffic is a bad idea. We all know this, but I’m telling you this car is far more complicated than any we have ever owned before. Just be careful. 2. Much of the equipment that caused us to upgrade to the limited, turns out (to me) to be useless. The blind spot cameras are not aimed where I would like, and your visual cross check when changing lanes is taken out of focus when you try to draw that tiny little screen into focus while driving in traffic. I find it’s worthless (however the blis system definitely chimes in if you turn signal into someone in the blind spot. ). It’s true though that the interior of the limited is quite nice. Pretty nice improvements relative to price, and gets easily into the league of a “luxury” car. 3. The lane keeping assist and warning system literally fights the steering wheel. It tends to fight any driver tendency if you are avoiding a bump or pothole. Worse yet it chirps and fights you when groves in the road or repaired tar cracks in the road don’t agree with lane stripes. Worse yet during interstate driving, at exit ramps, it tends to drift right of center as the exit lane appears, then jerks and chirps a few seconds later when it realizes it has taken you slightly out of your lane. In general I far prefer to drive without this feature. Which, back to the settings for different drivers, you have to dig through menus and disable that, and then remember to turn it back on later before giving car back to wife, who prefers it. This would be my most major gripe with the car. When it works well, it’s great. But at the end of the day, I like to sway a little here and there to the smooth parts of the road, and the car no like that. 4. Cameras everywhere, but they do not give you a very good idea of your position relative to objects. For example, you can switch to a front view when parking up against a concrete wall, but it’s very hard to discern your distance from an object. Since the nose is so huge on this duck, you have no chance of knowing when your nose will run into that concrete wall in the parking garage. The cameras end up being just slightly better than brail. In short, they give you some information and allow you to see objects, but they aren’t good enough to use as a park aid. You can laugh at me if you like, but there isn’t a single corner or bumper that you have a clue exactly where it’s at. So running into stuff with this metal boxcar is pretty easy. Better camera placement and a brighter picture would go a long way with today’s smaller parking spots. 5. Back up camera has these same issues. On previous fords, I can use the backup camera line guides for almost perfect positioning. The Hyundai isn’t nearly as accurate. And the guide lines are graining and ambiguous. Ford has everybody beat hands down with this. Incidentally, the Palisade side mirrors can be programmed to steer down to the ground when you place the car into reverse. And that is a seriously handy feature. 6. Wheels. I’ve tried to like the wheels on the Limited. But I just can’t get used to them. As for the Telluride wheel, I hated the ones that have heart shaped cutouts in them, which you don’t notice until you notice them, then you can’t notice anything else. Horrible design. And the black wheels on the telluride are no bueno. One of the reasons we steered to the huge nosed Palisade. I’ve looked at after market wheels, but that’s a crap shoot, so will probably just stick with these at the first tire change. 7. The push button transmission. I hate this more than anything. It’s dangerous, awkward, and tacky. For example, you back out of your garage, and stop. If you don’t have your foot on the brake and completely stopped just right, you hit the drive button but it doesn’t engage into drive, or maybe you accidentally hit the neutral button.... next thing you know you step on the gas to find you are not in the gear direction you had hoped... dangerous. With a gear shift lever, my right hand knew what gear I was in with absolute certainty. 8. Tow hitch. The factory tow hitch is just ugly. So ugly I just couldn’t do the Hyundai one. Which means I have no tow hitch. After market ones show more promise. But Hyundai could have at least disguised this ugliness into the rear bumper somehow. They did not. 9. Oil filter is a cartridge design. I do my own oil changes. This requires you to remove a plastic housing that looks pretty flimsy, but I can guarantee a big mess over a cartridge filter. 10. Size.. this car replaced a 2013 Ford Explorer. It is bigger. From a weight and size comparison, not a lot of difference, but it’s physical presence, both from outside, or from driving inside, is significantly bigger. It’s bigger on the road, bigger to park, bigger to wash, bigger in my garage. The upside is that it’s more comfortable inside (although I think it’s a slight bit noisier than the explorer, which was a tad quieter. This might change with my first tire change if I can find a good known quiet tire. So, should you get a Palisade? I don’t really have regrets. No car is perfect. The interior comfort of the palisade overcomes all this I discuss. It’s really really really comfortable and nice. The front and mid row seats cooled and heated, quiet, usb chargers out your ears, plenty of room, going down the road is effortless and quiet (especially if dad has the lane keeping assist turned off and I’m not yelling back at the car trying to drive for me😂). The only other car I would even consider in this size and price would be the 2020 explorer. (Did you know they are all rear wheel drive now, to get the front occupants back their legroom they had stolen with the transverse mounted engine). We looked at Audi, Mercedes, Ford, Telluride, Toyota, Lexus, Lincoln, and some others. Nothing came close but the Ford. And my wife just wanted to try something different. At the end of the day, she was sold by the interior, and I was sold by the warranty. The fact we have a brand new dealership 5 miles upwind was a selling point for the warranty. Best of luck!

First world problems. People are lazy and like to be hand-fed. Have vision issues while driving? Wear glasses and learn the positions of each button. Usability issues for the adaptive CC? This is all solved by actually reading the instructions and practicing how to edit the distance between vehicles. It's not autonomous driving. No crazy wind noise on highway so idk what the reviews for that is all about. The adaptive cruise control is amazing and very easy to change distance from other vehicles. It honestly drives itself like a Tesla minus changing lanes. You can literally take your and hands and feet off and it will drive for you. Maybe the test drivers were incompetent elderly people. Idk. Seems like more needs added to list.....Anybody else hating the front vents...way to small and limited adjust options. Plus the buttons on the upper roof panel impossible to see and distinguish, AND lastly ....due to the keyfob programming .....this will NOT let you lock the car immediately entering or exiting until you are clear of vehicle or have engine turned on. This is a BIG safety issue for me....because what if a car hijacker is trying to take your car at gas station (like happens frequently here in Atlanta) and you need to quickly lock doors as you are getting back in or out?? Plus I cannot leave my car running with doors locked for the rest of my family (teen kids) when I need to run into a store quickly while they wait. I know this is all so you cannot lock keys in car....but I'm trading safety and convenience for the rare chance of locking keys in car.

Total BS. I have an AWD Limited with over 5500 miles. I would not want to drive with anyone who could not immediately learn where the shift buttons were. BTW, since all you have is D, R, N, Park, and you need to have your foot on the brake to shift gears. At that point even when you're learning you can easily glance over and look where the buttons are. Now that I'm used to them, I prefer them. The different buttons on the dash are hard to read in sunlight. Got me there. But most of the functions you might want are accessible via voice command, so there's not a whole lot of need for the buttons while you're driving. And the touch screen itself is available for many functions. Want to change the adaptive cruise control follow distance (or any of 1000 other settings), do it while you're stopped. These are not things you should be doing while driving anyway. I don't even understand what CR or this video are saying about the door locks. no problem for me or anyone else I've heard from except CR. I have written to CR to complain about their reviews of the Telluride and the Palisade. If you read the two reviews, it is clear they were not written by the same person not after consultation between authors. What is praised about the Telluride is not mentioned for the Palisade even when shared. What is panned on Palisade and shared by the Telluride is not mentioned in the Telluride review. The superiority of fit & finish and bells and whistles on the Palisade is nowhere to be found. CR seems to have a major hangup with push button shifting, one wonders why. This video is more or less a 100% audio voiceover using the CR review text, adds no value of its own, and one wonders if the producer/author have driven a Palisade long enough to have developed cogent opinions that aren't plagiarized from elsewhere.
@stevepowsinger7334 жыл бұрын
Of course advocates would say there is a learning curve - but if the buttons are hard to read they will always be hard to read, if the keyless door lock keeps locking when you want it to unlock that's a problem, if you have to take your eyes off the road to find and touch the correct area on the screen to change the radio station playing that's and annoyance, if the distance-pacing cruise control keeps flashing "brake" when the car ahead turns off that's always going to be a problem, etc.

I find the Voice Over completely annoying. I recently purchased 2020 Palisade Limited, I have never owned a Hyundai before, I was also looking into the Lexus RX350. The Hyundai Palisade offers LOTS of room inside especially with the 3rd row which is very easy to get into and out of considering I am 6'3" tall. I also considered the Kia Telluride which I think has a handsome exterior. The Palisade Limited has a beautiful interior and I like the dash with integrated nav screen, I believe it is better integrated than the Telluride, (just my opinion). I am very pleased with the Palisade, there are a few negatives I do not like, nothing is perfect, but the positives outweigh the negatives. I have owned this vehicle for 3 weeks and my combined mileage is 23.1 mpg, which is great considering I drive up an incline to my neighborhood everyday. Overall, I am impressed and happy with my decision.

David Houlden It’s not a Highlander or RX correct? Even still, it is not even in the same league as the Palisade. Cheap interior, infotainment from the early 2000’s , lack of headroom for any tall driver, why, besides fuel mileage would you buy it? Toyota keeps production on that hybrid artificially low to keep the price up and demand high. A loaded RAV4 hybrid at 45k is a ridiculous amount for such cheap materials. Hyundai/Kia were taken by surprise by the demand of their top SUVs. People know quality when they see it. Paying nearly 50k for them, with build quality and technology that embarrasses the RX. This comment is from someone whose family has owned Toyotas for 50 years. I have a good idea about them. Current Toyotas need to step up their game.

Annoyed..continued: I have the Limited version and I NEVER use those buttons. My wife's car and she didn't even realize what they were for. She uses the touchscreen exclusively. Yes, the door locks are a pain. Especially the "double-tap" unlock of all doors. You need to learn Korean's button pushing cadence to get it just right. Your left locking and unlocking multiple time. My wife also complains of the "ice warning". Most cars do it upon engine start up. For some reason, they programmed it to do it after about 1 min of driving making you frantically look around because you thought you were about to hit something or someone. Rear seats are super slow to go down or up and for some odd reason the HVAC settings for the rear have to be turned ON EVERY TIME you start the car. It will SYNC with the front ONLY AFTER you turn it on. The auto high-beams HAVE TO BE TURNED on each time you start the car by pushing the stalk forward even though the setting on the stalk is on "AUTO". Adaptive cruise control works perfectly as long as you have it on "Slow" for reaction time, the "Normal" and "Fast" reaction times are worthless. Slow the car WAAYY to quickly and puts the car in kick down rocket mode once you move over to pass. Took us 2 months to figure that one out. Lastly, the overhead light buttons are not illuminated and impossible to see at night.
@ThisGuyRides4 жыл бұрын
Seems to me you don't want the rear HVAC to be on by default, unless you have rear passengers all the time.
@danielgoldberg21293 жыл бұрын
There is actually a setting for the rear hvac system. I keep mine on all the time, and then use the SYNC mode to keep it the same as the rest of the vehicle. If someone is sitting back there they can adjust it if they want to. Of course with rear heated and ventilated seats they’re pretty comfy already. The ice warning flashes on the screen for about 3 seconds and makes no sound. I have had zero problems with the door locks. The electric third row seats is a bit of overkill for me. I would have been happy pulling a lever and pushing them down. That said, the speed is not a issue because I leave them up 99.9% of the time and only raise them if I need a 5th and 6th seat. If I had kids back there all the time, I would leave them up. The adaptive cruise and lane following are a dream and work really intuitively. The only issue I have had is when I am in the right lane of the highway and there is an off ramp. Sometimes the vehicle wants to stay to the right and take the ramp. Not really an issue if you keep a hand on the wheel.

Hello EverymanDriver, You mentioned the 8" infotainment screen twice...wrong...it is 10.25" on the vehicle with the 12.3" gauges. Also, I don't get the consumer reports thing...try it yourself, I sell Hyundai's for more than 5 years and I consider myself as a Master Hyundai Product Advisor and to be honest, the adaptive cruise control is AMAZING and the Lane Keeping/Following is one of the Best in the business and all that without copy and paste Consumer Reports but from my own personal experience and demonstrating it every day to customers...too bad you don't check the facts by yourself! Cheers, Ds

Ok, but he was quoting a CR review. CR must have tested a lower trim model with the 8" screen. You are definitely correct about the Limited having the 10" though.

You learn where those buttons are in about 5 minutes of owning the vehicle. I've not had a problem. I just drove 500 miles in 2 days. I do NOT like the multiple MAPS on the same 8" screen. The ACC was fine. Never a problem (see 500 highway miles) I do NOT like the over use of tech. I'm a smart home automation business owner and there really is zero need for 2 MAPS in the same display. It seems redundant redundant. So far - we love it (family of 6) over our 2018 VW Atlas SEL 4 Motion Premium (with dash TFT, etc.)

Why would you ever change the distance on your cruise control? Looking to save 5 seconds on your trip?
@jsfbay14 жыл бұрын
Ed Kelly - If you are in bumper to bumper city traffic, you want a very close following distance. But out on the highway at 70+ miles an hour, I prefer a much greater following distance. Maybe the car compensates for that automatically, I don’t know enough about it.

g7003041 that doesn’t mean they should be dumb and put gray text on silver trim. Yes people learn the buttons, but it makes learning take longer and anyone who doesn’t know the vehicle will struggle if they drive it.

I’ll tell you why I’m annoyed, all the reviewers and automotive journals are doing nothing but praising these North American targeted twins but everyone is afraid to give the cons and opposing view. It’s like a big Hyundai/KIA commercial on KZbin everywhere you go when the people who do their research know better that it’s more going on with this company than the unicorns and sprinkles everyone is trying to force feed us. *That* is definitely annoying. I will say this company’s marketing for the North American market is superb. They were even successful with covering over their class action lawsuit that you NEVER hear about or the issues they’ve been having with their electronics and powertrains. Their NA marketing team is *GOLDEN.*

terrible. you told us why CR thinks something is annoying, wanted to hear your experience. waste of time. I own this car and do find some of those things annoying like the door locks because they look so similar to the window buttons. the push button shifter isn't a problem but it is very picky - you must have your foot on the brake anytime you change the transmission. The multimedia buttons are perfectly readable to my 65 year old eyes. Three months old and 6000 miles and my wife and I love the car.
