Another 150+ HP Lowrider S leaves the stables at DDHD.
Featuring a Cycle-Rama CR540 Camshaft, T-Man Hi compression +8cc Pistons & along with a Bassani Road Rage III 2 into 1 exhaust, This beautiful 'Midnight Crimson' 2021 Lowrider S got the full Screamin Eagle treatment from the word GO!
The customer opted for the Saddleman seat with the gold stitching to really tie it in with wheel colour & add his own personal touch of style.
The oil pump in the 2020 models & up features an 8 lobe gerotor on the scavenger side to eliminate the dreaded 'Sumping' problems from the early days. This oil pump is more than capable of the demands of the 131ci stg 4 kit so just for the added security for the high lift cam, I fitted a 'Fueling OE+' Cam plate & S&S Tappet cuffs.
The speed limiter on the 2021 models has been a difficult hurdle to overcome when tuning, however Technoresearch has worked day & night to get the ON / OFF function working as a selectable option in the tune setup.
During filming I was not able to achieve a full wide open power run due to the fact I was hitting the speed limiter in 4th gear at 190km/hr at roughly 4800rpm.
I was able to cut the signal wire for the speedo to overcome the issue & get the tune fully finalised. The wire has to be reconnected after tuning so the engine will idle properly once coming to a stop at the traffic lights ect. The reason for this is the IAC motor relies on inputs from the speedo to calculate how many 'steps' are required to provide engine idle speeds when the throttle is closed.
Thankfully though, the speed limiter in 2021 models is now longer an issue as Technoresearch has the function available now.
Please note viewers, The motorcycle gets heat cycled numerous times before the dyno so please do NOT assume the freshly built engine gets fired up then immediately revved up the dyno.
Once on the dyno the tuning process is very carefully carried out monitoring the AFR's etc while the tune is being built.
I edit out lots of footage from the heat cycle stage & early tuning stages just to keep the video flowing so you guys are not watching 20mins of a motorcycle getting warmed up, cooled down & warmed up again etc.

Anyone that wants a bike built. Give Tommy a crack at it. This bike is fucking incredible and to be honest I haven't been able to open it up properly yet. Price / customer service and big bore builds are what sets these guys apart from the rest. 👌

Hi Tommy …!build looks great! On my bike I followed you down the path with the CR512… I’ve stayed with the SE pistons.. and I have had the speed limiter issue. I’ve pulled 154tq and estimated to be 142 or a bit more on HP but I get cut at 123mph. How would you compare and contrast the 512 vs 540? Btw … I have a similar bassani 50th anniversary pipe… gives me a dip down low but I honestly don’t feel it… That 540 lope sounds more like the S&S 475 arguably the best sounding cam out there…

It just depends on how you want to ride the bike. If you just want a big cube street cruiser that you occasionally have a play on then the OEM crank is fine. If you're after a racing biased engine that you will ride on the street then you should consider a welded crank

Complete engine kit, plus the exhaust, air filter, tuning device & labour is around $10,000aud these days. Prices have gone up by a few grand in the last 2 years

So you can go straight from showroom to stage 4? I thought you had to build thru stages. I'm new to Harleys so my question may be strange.

I'll try and explain to help you understand. Stage 1 is when you swap the stock system & air filter assembly to aaftermarket Hi flow systems & by a tuning module so the ECM can be adjusted to add more fuel to higher flowing engine. Stage 2 is everything from stage 1 plus adding a performance Camshaft. Stage 3 is everything from stage 1 & 2 but also increasing the displacement by swapping the stock piston & cylinders to bigger bore oprions. Stage 4 is everything from stage 1, 2 & 3 but adding hi performance cylinder heads. So yes, you can go from the showroom to stage 4 because this particular kit comes with all the components that are required.

The complete 131ci Stage 4 kit is covered under warranty when purchased and installed at a Harley-Davidson dealer (T's & C's). The WISECO pistons are NOT part of the Screamin Eagle stage 4 kit. I have added them to this kit. They 2 thou oversized so the cylinders require torque plate honing to size.

The wide open full throttle air/fuel ratio should be targeting somewhere between 12.5:1 & 13.5:1 it just depends on how the the engine combo responds when being tuned. I would expect your cruising speed air fuel ratio to be targeting around 14.4:1 & 14.6:1

Hi Ron, 10.8:1 is on the lower side of compression for this CR540 Camshaft. You won't make as much low end and mid range Torque & the Peak HP numbers will be slightly lower too. I would suggest a CR480 or CR483 for huge low to mid torque. If more HP is what you want with not much of sacrifice on torque then go for the CR470, it will provide a little more mid to top end HP than the 480 & 483. All 3 cams I just mentioned use stock valve springs too so they are a direct fit or in your case, a direct replacement.

You can keep them on there if you like. They give you a good 'hit' off the bottom but you will sacrifice the top end Hp & Tq

@@MasterTechMiller 2 brothers exhaust and tune using a TTS tuner. It was done at Morgan and Wacker. It’s currently got about 95hp. Can’t remember the torque figure.

Do have any experience with the SE oil pump and cam plate and how it stacks up to the S&S or Fueling?

I'm not a fan of the S&S cam plate or the new Screamin Eagle one. Reason being is because they run a brass brush for the crankshaft to fit through. Anymore than 5 to 6 thousandths of run out causes excessive wear to the brass Bush which then in turn, starts to chew out even further leading to oil passages being blocked and then ultimately catastrophic engine failure. My advice is stick to the Fueling OE+ Cam plate with the updated 8 lobe gerotor pump from Harley (stock in late model 2019 models and up). The fueling race series oil pump and cam plate combo is really good but I don't think it's worth the money when stacked up against the OE+ Plate & updated oil pump from Harley

I am using the S.E tuner and auto tuner on my 2020 Lowrider S with the 131. Can the speed limiter be turned off?

With the SE stuff there is not as much adjustability as Technoresearch. It has never been a selectable option with SE however, I know with some of the older SE stuff as soon as the tune was loaded the speed limiter was turned off automatically. If you can go faster than 120MPH or 190KM/HR then your speed limiter is turned off.

The SE 131ci kit retails at approximately $5600aud. Plus install costs and dyno fee. Also depends on what other extras you may want included with the build. But as a rough idea you will be looking around $8500aud ride in ride out

I've never taken it out before so I can't give you an accurate answer. I know on other pipes, especially 2-1 pipes with the baffles out it doesn't help too much

Harley is scared of these guys who take their Screaming Eagle engines apart because it reveals the garbage parts that are truly inside which really shows how your SE engine only comes with bare minimum SE parts. That way they can rip you off with external badges that show what a moron is riding the bike with no clue as to what is really inside the engine.

I dont think that statement is entirely correct. When you buy a SE performance upgrade you know exactly what you're getting because it tells you EXACTLY what is included. Many folks are happy with the kit and the power it produces. When you can watch a bike being built by a Harley Technician that is experienced at high performance builds, has evidence and experience with what works well and what can and cant be improved by adding different engine components from other manufacturers, it gives the customer added confidence that the build should come close to his/her expectations. I've known exactly what to expect from 2 different SE stage kits. The first one being a 117 stage 4 and the second being this. Oh FYI, this moron had to buy the external SE 117 badge for the cam chest. The 131 badge comes with the 131 kit.

@@epgaynor no mate, you can drain all the oils on a M8 into it without any concerns. Just make sure you undo the bleed screw when you drain the oil into it otherwise it can sometimes bubble up a little bit.
