Our first daughter is an 8. From the womb, hardest kid to parent. Hella hard. (She's also an Aries, conceived on Independence Day (TMI), but the kid is sooooo independent and definitely a challenger.)

Our second daughter is a 9. She appears shy and reserved. (9 wing 1). But she's incredibly warm and chatty with her most important people. But man, that girl cannot make a decision. We help her (her dad & I) by NOT making her decisions, no matter how tricky.

I feel this deeply as a nine 😅 Love that you empower her to make decisions.

I wish my parents challenged me more as a kid. I’m also a 9w1 and still struggle as an adult to make decisions. I’m trying to work on that and lean more on my 8 wing.

I think you’d both appreciate that since I last wrote here that my 9 wing 1 gal has had to be assertive in a significantly challenging moment (that even her dad and I would have found very difficult) and she did it! It was very empowering, but also excruciating (& that is not an overstatement).

I have finally come to the conclusion that I am a social type 7. And yes, school was super hard for me as a kid. I was always squirming in my seat and even got notes brought home because of it. My kindergarten teacher told my mom once, that during storytime i wouldn't sit in the circle with the other students but instead would be playing with the toys across the room. My teacher said that even though I seemed like I wasn't paying attention, I would still be listening to the entire story and able to answer the questions. Lol. (multitasking as a 5 year old, how about that!) haha.

I love the enneagram. We go to church in Chandler, AZ. Love that our Pastor constantly references the fact that he is a type 7.

I definitely looked like the 5 as a kid. I'm told that when I was about a year and a half old, I DEMANDED that the phone be disassembled. My parents were obviously unwilling to do that, so they grabbed a broken one from my grandparents and let me try to take that one apart. Thankfully, the weird trend of clear electronics took over shortly after, which reduced the incidents of me taking things apart. I also had a novelty eraser collection, was obsessed with rocks for about 5 years, stole my dad's coffee filters for a chromatography experiment, read adult level books in elementary school, and picked up lockpicking in middle school. Looking back, the three biggest clues that I was indeed an 8 and not a 5 were: 1. I had a reputation for standing up to bullies, even if I did not know the kids being bullied. 2. I had an obscene amount of energy (still do). 3. I would directly disobey orders while making full unblinking eye contact.

Hey girl, I would love you on my podcast. It’s exactly the topic that needs to be discussed in the homeschool community. 💜💜💜.

I can't love this enough! I hope that you'll share some about relating to grown children. As a 2w1 I struggle to let go!

I would say (as a Type Five) that we wake up with a full battery, but we experience an energy drain more quickly than the other types

I think parents of the 9 should also know that (at least with myself), you can very easily miss your window to get to know your child. Once the 9 gets into a peaceful rhythm, their goal is simply to preserve it. They will not want to open up because opening up might ruin the peace they've got going on. I am a strong believer in Objective Personality's extension to MBTI and how it relates to the Enneagram, so especially if your child is an IXXJ like myself, it's going to be really tough to put yourself as a parent into their routine, same known facts / concepts, nothing new, preserve what I have, personal world of the 9. So please DO NOT miss your window😂
