HKS Supercharged BRZ Finally goes back on the Dyno!

There appear to be a lot of HKS superchargers failures for this kit from lurking around forums. It is a shame because it is one of the cleanest centrifugal supercharger installs for the 86/brz. I like the way it retains the existing airbox. What is your experience of their reliability?

I'd recommend a flex-fuel kit and get it tuned to run E85. My normally aspirated BRZ w/JDL catless UEL header, Nameless 2.5" exhaust kit hits 205 wheel HP when running E85. Then per the many comments below suspension (coilovers, endlinks, etc) and better rims and tires. Great video. Interested to see how the FRS proceeds.

Turbo boys on 86gt and brz usually go straight E85 which will see most gains and benefits for the motor. 98 on supercharger should be ok but will need ecu and tune.

I can handle that these cars are NA, but you would think that manufacturer would have sorted out the torque dip. Great results guys on the dyno.

It’s not a torque dip, more like a torque hump before it. Gives you more daily torque while shifting at ~3,500 RPM. The alternative would have been a gradual ramp up of torque, which is what most cars do normally.

I rode in a car back in the day that weighed about 2700 lbs and made 240whp. It was an really nice power level. Would love to drive a twin with 250whp

What is better turbo or supercharge? Atleast for drivability because we all know that the sound of the turbo is just orgasmic. Stutututu Could you make the car have liniar power output with an turbo? Im sure that with some headers and a tune you could get rid of the torque dip but i was wondering if you could still have a liniar power output. im talking 250-350whp max.

Just get a centrifugal supercharger. Belt driven turbo essentially. Makes all the whistle and air escaping noises but keep smooth linear power throughout the power band

I'd really like to see the UEL catted header on a dyno run. But what I'd REALLY like to see you dyno is the UEL catted header with an FT-86 Speedfactory V1 Cat Back (resonated) exhaust running an OFT 93 octane tune. This is what I currently run on my '15 BRZ Limited. It sounds awesome, has no torque dip, and drives great

I have the Tomei Catless UEL on my 18 brz, it added about 18hp/10tq overall, and flattened out the curve to where its almost unnoticable. EDIT: with the OFT Stage2+ Tune as well

@@deadeyed373 Odd coincidence: +18 hp and +10 ft-lbs of torque were exactly what I had estimated from pouring over countless dyno runs (of other BRZs and FR-Ss) and excel spreadsheet diddling. Your set up and tune is very similar to mine. My power and torque gains are a pure guestimation on my part. I think we are in the right ballpark though. If so my 18 hp cost about $155 a per hp with all the parts, labor, and shipping included. That doesn't include the three sets of wheels and tires I now own and the new speakers, sound deadening, convex door mirrors, gurney flap spoiler, and mud flaps. I just got back from a drive on my favorite local twisty loop and I say the money was well spent: it is measured in smiles per hour.

@@etoineschrdlu9382 nice man! Yeah it was between 15-20 and 8-12 depending on he run, I just grabbed the middle numbers for convenience. Only other mod I have besides the header is a Q300 catback. I have an HKS turbo on the way so that’s next, but this served me quite well for the time being and is only a couple hundred bucks in the long run for it to run much smoother and pretty much have flat acceleration

@@YSoAggressive Yeah I disagree with that comment lol. I went Sprintex because I wanted the twin-screw torque instead of centrifugal, and couldn't be happier. Dead simple torque increase, tons of low-mid power as well which is fun for the street, it's a different animal and internals haven't been touched. Tuned on stock injectors as well. Turbo is fun, I own turbo cars, but supercharged is the way to go on the 86 platform IMO unless you're trying for dyno numbers and not driving experience. Small turbo? May as well supercharge it :D

180 hp at the wheels for a stock brz? My brz, with just a tune, makes 185 hp at the wheels, approx 250 hp at the engine, if you just add the 25% increase it got from the tune to the stock figures. Stock it make 146 at the wheels

Dang. I wonder what new gen is at the engine. I dynoed my Gen 2 and stick it put down 218 on a mustang dyno. Dyno jet estimate was like 240whp. Toyota is definitely lying about engine hp…no way it’s 228 from factory.
