You are correct in the fact that they are allowed anywhere in international waters, however, the Russians sometimes forget that there actions could potentially lead to even more strain on international relations, and sometimes they behave in an unprofessional and dangerous way, they have been known to fly lower than is safe and manoeuvre to a point that a midair collision was more likely than if they just maintained their course and speed. The fact is that most interceptions carried out by the RAF are in airspace that is very close to our borders in terms of territorial airspace, and just one error by their navigator or pilots could lead to a much more serious incident by entering our airspace.

They, the Royal Navy and R.A.F, do know the boundaries, but sometimes the Russians conveniently forget them, especially since the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the NATO Alliance growing in numbers and territorial expansion that NATO can use to get even closer to the Russians border and territorial waters, and the Russians do not like it, it wouldn’t take much for a pilot of either side to make a mistake. But, as you said, they do know the boundaries, just hope it stays that way.

Yes they do have a very advanced avionics system, but they don’t need to use its full capabilities in situations like this, why use the whole bag of tricks when they are not needed, using the whole capability would give them the opportunity to analyse what we have up our sleeve.

And your point is?, if a radar is good enough to detect stealth aircraft then there would be know reason for stealth aircraft, the whole point of stealth aircraft is because they can project a very small radar cross-section. I don’t know if ANYONE has a radar system that can easily detect stealth aircraft, they are NOT invisible to radar, they just don’t appear on a radar screen with a large return, something that someone somewhere is trying to invent a system to detect stealth aircraft or vessels.
