Join me today as we get ready to pull out a old grapefruit tree and put in a Holiday Avocado Tree.
Bought 2/18/21 - in the Ground 9/12/2021 - Holiday (A) is a semi-dwarf tree that produces excellent fruit in the fall and winter. The large green fruit is 18-24 oz.

That's a nice looking Holiday. I like the Kellogg palm, cactus & citrus soil too, it drains really well and cost effective. Great job on the microsprinker under the Holiday, thanks for sharing!

Finally, I should have done it earlier. I'm going to start buying the Kellogg cactus mix. I bought a bag of top pot from Laguna Hills also but this might be just as good? Hopefully your baby bear doesn't damage your avocados. Thanks for watching!

Nice Holiday. Mine had more of a sprawling growth habit. I felt a little bad for that poor grapefruit.

Felt bad too, it flowered like crazy so that's why I didn't pull it out earlier in the year. The wife said give it one more try but with how root bound the holiday was, it was time. Thanks for watching!

Can I ask what city these are growing in? I live in Anaheim and want to compare to mine as time goes on. I like the shade cover over the Pinkerton, the elevated mound for your Holiday, and the micro sprayers. However, on the micro sprayers, I would have them spray away from the trunk and not wet the trunk (the same would go for citrus). I understand that as a newly planted tree the roots haven't gone out very far yet. I might build a watering basin for 2 years and put a bubbler near the base. Whatever the method I definitely would not wet the trunk. And keep any mulch away from the trunk as well, at least a few inches, maybe a 1/2 foot or so. Beautiful tree.

We're kinda neighbors, I'm in the IE down the 91 freeway around Corona/Riverside/Norco area. I agree and do worry about the trunk getting sprayed. On some of my trees I put something to block it but some animal keeps on moving it. So far no issues since it's been hot and it evaporates quickly, will continue to monitor.

My Holiday is like Greg's, the leaves and form sure don't look like yours. It was a 6 foot #15 when I bot it three years ago, the new growth looks different too... and as a typical Holiday just wants to weep. Thx for all the great videos

I'm kinda planning the same at 8 feet apart from fence post to post as a screen. Problem is I gotta dig out a Ash tree which is a pain. People have done it.

That is a tall, huge holiday, I have three and mine don't look like that, second year in the ground, mine grow sprawling like a wide shrub, very difficult to train because of the tendency to arch downward growth, one has taco leaves the others have sorta mixed taco etc, are you sure that's not a gwen? I can't train my holiday it to grow upright.

Not sure, I really want a Gwen so if it is than I'm good. Kinda trained it to follow the stake so now that it has grown past it, seems to want to start to weep a little. We'll see.

The one 360 in the video was a rainbird, I've also bought some from Amazon, blue ones and it works good too: store.rainbird.com/xs360tspyk-xeri-spray-360-true-spray-5-in-spike.html amzn.to/3lfv12C The half pattern I got at home Depot or Lowes, any would work, they have adjustable ones too. I don't like the 6 stream bubbles, results much better with the micro sprays.

Cmay be the grapefruit tree is a rootstock that's why it's inferior

When I bought the house, the previous owner had the water off to the fruit trees and essentially killing them. There was now coming back.
