We make it usually on ekadashi day as we are free from heavy cooking on that day. .... My mother used to prepare it before her dooram * time so that we children were equiped in advance.

This is amazing. Thank you. Can Kashmiri/degi mirch be used for colour? It is available here in the U.K. I am originally from the north but have a special fondness for foods from the south and like making sambhar powder and keeping as I don’t use it everyday. Bit concerned about the flavour of Kashmiri mirch added to sambhar powder although you did say use any chillies.
