and yet, there is one biggest advantage that no other motorcycle manufacturer has - it's an automatic transmission... And this is what made me buy this motorcycle. Although I was thinking of buying a Tracer 9GT.

I’ve just traded in a year old 1250 GSA for a Red NT1100 DCT. I really enjoyed the test ride and 2 up it suits me better due to the height and weight of it compared to the GSA. Now to wait for it to arrive.
@CodgerBiker7 ай бұрын
I understand that. I test rode the DCT a couple of years back. I prefer manual after owning AT-DCT. But for touring it really works. Something stuck in my mind about the test ride, the engine and handling I think. Now I have one! 👍

Have the Africa Twin and agree with all your comments almost the same except for the windscreen and hand guards. Well put to Honda hope they listen.

Africa Twin is still my favourite bike I have owned. A few interface issues would never put me off, you get used to it don't you. I just think it's offputting to people who've never owned one, NT1100 included. A pretty easy fix if they'd swallow their pride and standardise things. Same in Motogp. 👍👍

Got my manual version in November 2022 now have 15,500 miles on it about to go in for it's top end service (glad i bought service plan!) Adjusted the screen once in Spain it was so hot but was like having a hair dryer in my face put it back to full and will never move it again. Having phone plugged in is a must if your on the go all day so no probs their. I only ever use Urban mode and have never had a problem with over takes and can't feel the power reduction which i think has been lost in translation and it's the way it's delivered. And at night the indicators do reflect on deflector wings??? And??? Never bothered me. Most manufacturers have the indicators on all the time extra lights and attracts attention, be seen be safe. Looking at having over 20,000 when it's 2! and i only ride for pleasure. Average mpg 57. What you haven't mentioned is the limits of the suspension 😮 on a good run and shock is nice and hot it turns into a pogo stick, still fun to throw around but with in its limits. Hope you enjoy yours as much as i have. Keep up the good work 👏
@CodgerBiker7 ай бұрын
Totally agree on power delivery. I think it's about the way the power is delivered, i.e. gradually rather than limiting it. I find the rear suspension much improved on the stock bouncy CB500X I had. So I shall look out for that, fore warned is fore armed. Much appreciated. As I said, I really like my bike. I ride with the screen highest, but have to lower it when garaged. Just a minor annoyance really if I set off after forgetting to lift it. 👍👍

Horn above the indicators annoys me every time I go for (and miss) the horn on my Honda. Also when I get off and hit the horn with my belly. I guess that's my fault though 😀 The cable seems an odd choice.

It's a quirky bike, even for a Honda. But they got the engine right so I forgive them. 😆👍👍

I’ve looked at this bike on two occasions now and each time walked away disappointed. Things I find off putting being:- left hand switch gear is a mess, cheap looking rear shock exposed to the elements which will corrode in no time, not being able to adjust screen on the fly, not to mention some of the additional issues you have highlighted. I appreciate these are well priced however for the same money should you be willing to buy used you can do a lot better. Thanks for the review and feedback much appreciated 👍

I guess it depends on where you are coming from, and wish to go. I test rode one of these a couple of years back. I'd had a DCT (prefer manual) Africa Twin so didn't really think too much about it. Last year had a spine injury, which reset my outlook. I kept thinking back to that test ride. I love the Africa Twin engine. I'll not be offroading again. So, quirks apart, it really works for me just now. A 'Forever Bike'? I doubt it. But comfortable, easy to live with, and torque aplenty. 👍

Good vid and some valid points there for sure .. I'd like to be able to turn off the indicator running lights too as they are unnecessary, it would also be nice to be able to adjust the screen whilst riding. The buttons don't phase me much, got to grips with them and the menus pretty quick .. but for sure it could all be laid out better and in a more intuitive way. The cruise controls being on the RH side is a bit of a faff ... and the typical Honda horn button misplacement leads to plenty of unintentional beeping, lol. Not finding the throttle on mine particularly snatchy, by no means is it perfect but it seems ok to me (my previous bike was a KTM 790 Duke though so maybe I'm just used to trigger throttles) ... I do find at 30mph the bike seems happiest in 4th gear, doesn't feel lumpy or like it's chugging and the throttle response to small inputs and on / off is pretty good and smooth. Certainly helps to flick it into rain mode or a user mode with as little engine braking as possible too. It is a 1.1L twin after all ... those 2 big old pistons have a load of weight. Early days for me yet though ... only had my NT for a week!! 😉

Agree on all points. Plenty of strengths to negate the niggles. I had a 790 Duke and Adv so I'm with you. She's a big, long legged girl, who needs to go on long runs. Weather has been so bad, but hopefully - here comes the sun 👍😎

@@CodgerBiker Oh for sure, fingers crossed on the weather part ... it's been so cold and gloomy so far .. there's gotta be some warmth and proper sunshine on the way 😉 I rekon Honda have held back a bit with the NT .. it gives them room to improve it a little with each generation but still keep it clear of the Goldwing. If they made it too good it would steal sales away from the flagship ....

I’m just about to upgrade my Kawasaki Versys 650 and my final two contenders are the Honda NT1100 manual or DCT OR the Kawasaki versys 1000 SE. What do you think? Both comfortable which is important , both perfect for touring with pillion. (Maintenance cost, not sure) any comments welcome , thank you
@CodgerBiker3 ай бұрын
I can't see how you could go wrong with either. Both are over 1000cc so no advantage in insurance etc (UK thing). So, assuming you have test rode both, I'd be looking at A) dealership support (distance, interaction etc). B) Do you need Carplay/Auto. And go from there. Honestly, that is what would decide it for me. Not knowing any other details. If you already have Satnav, and used to it then the Honda system isn't essential. Good luck which ever you choose I'm sure you'll love it. 👍👍

2 seasons on NT1100. Before that I enjoyed life with FJR1300 for 4 years. Two things that I totally miss in NT1100 are shaft drive and electric windscreen. Everything is clear about the shaft drive - for objective reasons (built on the basis of Africa) there is not and will not be one on the NT, but what the hell is the windscreen not electric or at least easily raised/lowered with one hand from the driver's side?! And, of course - overloaded buttons on the handle bars...
@CodgerBiker7 ай бұрын
No such thing as a perfect bike I guess. Otherwise we'd not keep changing. 👍👍
@Stratocasterhead514 ай бұрын
Have had the NT since January. 9000 miles on it. I heard shaft drives eates into horsepower figures and the bike is already fairly limited as it is. I havent got sick of lubing the bike every 2 weeks yet but, we'll see in the long run. I do find the complaints about the screen tiresome though. I understand it can be a good luxury, but no one really moves the windscreen at all. You find the good height for you and leave it. Boss has an RT1250 with an electric screen and he only ever changes the position when he has rain. Also, i know some blokes like complaining that the forza 125-350 have the electric screen. Yes they do, and above 85mph, the screen litterally will not move due to the wind. So i cant imagine it being fit for purpose on a 125mph NT. Only REAL criticisms one can have of this bike is the vibrations, engine lacking flexibility especially in town it will lug constantly and the rear shock absorber seems to be made of papier maché and is really not fit for purpose.

I looked at buying the NT1100 and a number of things, most of which you have mentioned put me off. I absolutely detest the Horn/Indicator position - I no longer buy new Hondas just because of that. I don't like the Manual Screen. I'm not that interested in "tech" on a bike, I want to just enjoy the ride. I want a Shaft Drive on a touring Moto.
@CodgerBiker7 ай бұрын
I'd say look elsewhere then. None of the things for me really matter. There's far more benefits, for me, which I'll get to once I've done enough riding on it. 👍👍

DCT perfect, exhoust fantastic, u can turn off traction if u go to offroad ( u dont go with NT )... that is alll good... Issue with Center stand - heavy bike, weak motor, clunky, high consuption, heating issue legs balls etc, no good ergonomic, creapy aerodinamic, design? Its subjective... Luggages are useless at all.... No underlight buttons...
