I seen what Boyz was going for as it kinda gave a 2000s vibe and song but something in the song is missing. @@adrianmikelboyz is a nice clubby song. It is a bop sonically. I personally feel like the whole black phishing controversy was just a bad played out case unfortunately having Leigh and jes fall prey to other’s actions. It ultimately turned from the central issue being “black phishing” to a Jes(bad) vs Leigh(good), Jesy never said anything about Leigh, she just chuckled when Nicki made remarks. And I personally feel like there was never gonna be a win in the situation for either. Jesy might have grown around black culture, but I agree she along the lines became insensitive/blind to what she was doing. Leigh even though pushed to front the rage, also has her own controversies surrounding race. Race is relatively, black in America is not the same in the uk, and in SA for example, so multiple pov all chimming in was bound to be a mess
@AbracadabraBipipityBopotyBOO3 ай бұрын
@Das644 I agree. I think the UK fans already had the well poisoned against Jesy from people like Mnek and other executives and the drop around Boyz was the perfect storm to ostracize her for leaving the group sort of like how they attempted to dump on Zayn when he left 1D. If we objectively look at Boyz and compare it to the Bad Boyz version frame for frame, it was clear what Jesy and her creative team were doing with the video. I personally look at Leigh-Anne sideways as well for trying to make that video into something it wasn’t with her note to fans after the video dropped and penning an open letter to Jesu as if she made all Black men in the video into “degenerates” when it was more white and mixed race men in the video than not. What’s more it’s hard to say Jesy is blackfishing for me as a Black woman when she has never claimed to be Black as others who black fish has or to be racially ambiguous. She’s also claimed herself as a white woman and to me Leigh-Anne used this incident much like the X Factor incident with her rival Black competitor as a “woe as me moment” to win sympathy for her own career.

It’s so sad how Jesy ruined her image with this terrible debut. Her other song is much better and should have been the image she led with. Moreover, the way she left the group was awful and messy. You don’t bash the group you came from because that’s where most of your fans will come from. For example, when Camila cabello left fifth Harmony, she was smart enough to always say nice things about the band and not piss off her audience. That’s why her debut was successful.

Another thing in common, is that both releases were so selfish and egocentric. Jesy's departure from Little Mix got her a lot of sympathy, along with the understanding that she needed time away from the limelight. So when she came back (too quickly) with a worse version of what she was already doing at LM, seemingly contradicting her own statements, it did not feel like a genuine new start like we were wishing for her, but instead like an unjustified divorce that left everyone worse off. It's as if she was "finally I am free to do what I want, now where's the fake tan !?" Jojo's debut is also treating her fanbase as irrelevant or even a burden. You like me? Too bad, now I am BAAAAD. I have no doubt Jojo got stuck playing a (cringe and immature) role which was not comfortable, and which she needed to shed, but she chose instead to go for something even more cringe and immature. Why ? Clearly because she wanted to be the center of attention, instead of being open and transparent and honest in her new era. Jojo wants to break away from her persona, but where it would be beautiful and sweet to be herself with her fans, instead she treats it like a game. Now, selfishness and egocentrism in music is very common, but those two situations were so blatant that I am not surprised it turned out bad for them.

@chiara8822 You’re rewriting history. From the X Factor days until almost the second to last album, Jesy was the girl who would fight for all of the girls if anyone said anything to or about them. She got in trouble for defending Leigh-Anne against the other Black contestant on C Factor and told radio DJs off for bringing Zayn up when he and Petrie broke up. You are right though that it’s clear she was scarred and never seemed to enjoy her time as a celebrity because of how nasty the UK press has been to her and other celebrities.

What surface level commentary. Surprised he didn’t mention the fact that Jesy did a hard 180 into 50s/60s nostalgia (white) Americana aesthetic after her cosplaying with black culture failed so miserably.
@blueprint01623 ай бұрын
Honest, you have to play fair. When it comes to the Diddy cameo to be fair to Jesy, this was 2 years (2022) BEFORE all the stuff came out about him so I don’t think that it’s fair to say that by him makng a cameo (at the time), was a bad move on Jesy’s part for a debut solo song. Now, if she had released the song AFTER the Diddy stuff then I would agree with your point however, as it was before I don’t think it should be used against her. Jesy didn’t navigate her departure from Little Mix very well at all. She had already fallen out with the rest of the group and was bashing the groups sound. Fair enough that she was more into r&b than pop, but it was the girly pop sound that gave her the platform she has to make music. She shouldn’t have parted with the group in a negative way and bash her former group members. Then to say that you needed a break to take time away, when in fact you were planning on releasing solo music, is what made her not come off well. The song and video in (terms of her look) is what gave negative feedback. I guess some Little Mix fans didn’t like her anymore due to how she left the group and on the other hand, people felt that she was trying too hard to ger away from the Little Mix pop image to be more cool and ‘urban’. The controversy about her look relating to blackfishing also came up which didn’t help then, to add on to all of that there was more drama between her and Leigh-Anne and Nicki Minaj got involved defending Jesy-which caused more problems. The song didn’t land well due to Jesy try too hard to be cool and urban and people found her image and the song corny. Jesy is lost when it comes to music. She shouldn’t have burnt bridges with her ex group members and really should’ve taken time out to figure out who she is and her sound because by doing that, she would’ve had an authentic transition into a solo artist. Maybe in the future she will come out with more believable and better music but for now, she needs to find her way.

People in the industry have known about Diddy for years. There’s a reason his appearances in songs started to dwindle even before the allegations came out Not to mention she worked with Nicki and all the stuff about her man was definitely known and an issue but jesy didn’t care cuz she was starstruck
@AG-fg1uk3 ай бұрын
@@LP-ct9nkNicki brought hype to the song as this was her first feature since a 2 year hiatus. Everyone liked the single when it dropped. Things went downhill when Leigh anne brought up blackfishing to obviously rain on her release. That's what white pop stars were doing at that time including Ariana Grande.
@amoreweasley53022 ай бұрын
@AG-fg1uk That is quite a lot of lies. Everyone clearly hated it. I’m pretty sure there’s an article from Harvard talking about the song being horrible. The reception to the song was so clearly negative. And it’s weird to say things went downhill from Leigh Anne talking about the blackfishing cause that’s another lie. Everyone already talked about it after her first picture after the announcement she was leaving the group when she was still dark. Then more people talked about it after the teasers for the song came out. Then much more people talked about it right after the music video was released. People didn’t start talking about it because of Leigh Anne. You’re twisting things to take blame off of Jesy

@@OrkunPisirgen-kj4oi Miley did promote her music, just not as aggressively as other artists. During her Bangerz era, she gained massive attention due to the controversy surrounding it. Coming off Hannah Montana, she transformed into a wild persona with a short pixie cut, which drew a lot of attention. However, after Bangerz, her Dead Petz era didn’t create much buzz because she had fallen off the charts, and people had grown tired of her outrageous behavior-sticking her tongue out and being vulgar constantly. Her Malibu era came and went, with the only memorable moment being her Billboard performance. She attempted to regain momentum with *She is Coming*, but the project was eventually canceled, and even songs like "Mother’s Daughter" didn’t generate much interest. Miley did actively promote *Plastic Hearts*, performing at the VMAs, pre-Super Bowl events, and more. Despite these efforts, her stardom has waned, largely because she lost a lot of fans during her "wild" phase, and many of them switched to other pop stars. It’s not accurate to say she didn’t promote her music, as she had many live performances and appearances at events like the VMAs. Her last album only gained significant attention because of the success of "Flowers," but it’s clear she’s no longer the "it-girl." She remains an A-list celebrity, but that’s about it. Even her collaboration with Beyoncé didn’t perform well, peaking at number six on the Billboard charts before quickly dropping. If the song had been with Ariana Grande, it likely would have been a more stable hit. Have a nice day! Oh, and I won’t be commenting anymore.

Jesys whole look and persona is outdated. It kinda gives justina valentine/ Chanel westcoast vibes. Seems like when older women hold on to their youth by a string hoping a pop career is going to come. Its sad because they don’t realize how underwhelming it all is. The woah vicky wave is gone but they cant seem to accept it
@jusmotheo51603 ай бұрын
With Jojo the whole Good girl gone bad persona is played out cause everyone done did that just like how sam smith, lil nas and Doja tried with the whole devil/illuminati imagery and persona, it no longer has that shock value it use to have back in the day she could've continued with the good girl image and slowly transitions to being more matured (it was gonna be seen as growth rather than a rebrand) and the whole Jesy situation really could've been handled properly cause there was no drama prior to the break up once Jesy announced that she's going solo now there's drama had that been kept under wraps it would've seemed like a amicable break up but both parties didn't allow it to be and everything got blow out of proportion anyway im gonna need the Little Mix fans to slow down on the Jesy hate tho cause none of them are innocent in this situation Leigh Anne was complimenting a friend who was clearly black fishing but somehow had a issue with Jesy black fish so what you do on the left you do on the right you cant condemn me for something you are cheering someone on for and that's what Nicki had a problem with if you going to call me out also call your friends out especially if they are doing what im also doing but how Nicki handled it now that's what I don't agree with but at the end of the day this whole situation (Jesy vs Leigh Anne and Little Mix break up) could've been handled better than how it was.

A whole word! I felt that the LM breakup was a clear instance of history being rewritten. As an OG Mixer, I remember that the original creative directors put Jesy in a Curly red wig similar to her wig the fans and others got mad at her for wearing in the Nicki interview and in Boyz videos in the pink jacket scene for the group’s original single, Wingz. Likewise, Jesy had been tanning for years and NEVER claimed to be a Black woman or mixed race. But, she magically turned into a black fisher the day she leaves the group? If the girls had that much animosity why was Jesy always the one who defended and fought for each girl in public interviews when a host came against them? It makes no sense she just magically went from being their sister to being their biggest ops and a culture vulture. I also couldn’t get behind the black fish rumors because Ariana Grande is an even bigger a black fisher than Jesy and she’s STILL thriving to this day and and no one ever called her to the carpet to say that she actively spent years cosplaying as a Black and Latinx urban singer when the girl is Italian. 🙄 But, Jesy tanning was the sign of a girl who had mental health and body dysmorohia issues and no one cared.

I honestly don’t think the songs were that bad. So, I’m not sure why everyone is so uptight about it. But it’s just preferences. Also- Jojo Siwa was trying to break into the “adult” world. Most of Jojo’s audience was mom and children. Moms are extremely critical. What teenager or adult was listening to Jojo? Also, about the little mi girl- she can be deemed unattractive to many and was overlooked in the group. She was easy to bully and ridicule. Miley audience was growing with her and she already had some risky moments on Disney channel.

I feel like Jojo's attempt at rebranding failed because she was very happily telling everyone she's a bad girl now. it worked for other artists like miley because she didn't actively talk about her rebrand saying 'guys! look at me! i'm different now! :D' she just, changed naturally and shifted music sounds
