@@agnirelaxgaming it is important to do this because it helps to raise our level of consiousness...notice how when we sleep our gaze goes downwards, and when we are inspired we look up and our entire posture changes. So this is one way to understand how the posture and the position of the eyes can help us raise our level of consciousness and helps us go deeper in meditation. Hope this helps!

Namaste, Thanks for the help, just had one question... In the posture section, the basic elements were: 1. Straight back and head. 2. Gaze uplifted. 3. Hands on thighs, with palms upward. But, in some videos, the instructors said to tuck your chin in a bit, while in some others, like this one, there was no such mention, so I'm guessing that subtle part wouldn't matter much?? Please let me know. ❤️🙏
@AnandaSanghaIndia3 жыл бұрын
Hi Swarnava! Chin should be parallel to the ground. I think that some people say to tuck it in because we often draw the head backwards, hence by tucking in the chin we get the neck straight. The rest of what you pointed out is correct :)
@anoridinaryhumanbeing703 жыл бұрын
@@AnandaSanghaIndia so, shall I tuck my chin in , during my practice?? What do you suggest?? And thank you soo much for replying.❤️🙏❤️
@AnandaSanghaIndia3 жыл бұрын
I would suggest that you make sure your neck is in alignment with the spine and the chin is parallel to the floor :) If tucking the chin in helps, then do so. Make sure that you are comfortable and without tension in the neck or anywhere in the body. If to do that you need to do some other exercises (like tensing and relaxing more) then do that too.

@AnandaSanghaIndia3 жыл бұрын
Perhaps you need to relax your body a little more before meditation, try spending a little more time practicing some of the techniques explained to relax completely before you being the Hong Sau practice... and also stay concentrated on the practice explained, here that will pass. Ideally our body, breath and our energy becomes very still through this practice, and maybe you just need to give yourself a little time with this practice. :)

Should the gaze be fixed uplifted on the third eye during inhalation and exlation too or just at the time of holding breath?plz make it clear.in some other places it has been found that the attention must go with the air going in and going out.as the breat goes in, the awareness should go in and as it comes out the awareness also should follow the breath..should one fix the gaze all the time during the whole process or it shoulf follow breath??
@AnandaSanghaIndia Жыл бұрын
The gaze should always be up when we meditate, our focus, however, will be on the breath, but the gaze stays steadily up. Only if you feel the breath flowing at the origin of the nose (the close to the point between the eyebrows) your concentration on the breath and third eye become one.

As my meditation strarts to settle , that is after say 10 minutes , my major focus becomes watching the breath . And sometimes , though , not always , I pronounce the Hong as Ong , i.e. the 'h' becomes silent . Is that ok ? Please reply , Thanks 🙏❤️
@AnandaSanghaIndia3 жыл бұрын
As you go deep, go with what the feeling is. As long as your concentration is deepening and the breath is slowing down, it probably doesn't matter much. But if you can, stick to the proper pronunciation. In time, you may forget the mantra altogether and concentrate purely in the feeling of peace or joy that may come.

Keep your eyes uplifted, but your focus while practicing Hong-Sau is on the breath, unless you are able to feel the breath at the point midway between the eyebrows. It may happen that your eyes come down, it is natural, you just have to keep trying and eventually it will become secondhand :) Perhaps the easiest way to do it is follow the line of your eyebrows, and the middle point is around where we ask you to focus :) Hope this helps!

Namaste The upanishads which are a part of Vedas declare that there is only One and to realize this Oneness of all life is the ultimate purpose of life. Every moment we breath, nature reminds us of this truth as each incoming breath resonates to So meaning He and outgoing breath to Ham meaning I (The Sanskrit words are split as Sah and Aham and its conjuction is Soham) Every time we breath , we can tune ourselves to this ultimate reality of Oneness by remembering Soham. Thanks.
@AnandaSanghaIndia2 жыл бұрын
"Hong" resonates with the incoming breath, the breath itself is an affirmation of ourselves. When we come to this world, we inhale, we "become us". "Sau" resonates with the outgoing breath, it is after and exhalation that one is even able to leave body consciousness, in samadhi or breathlessness, and it is during the "last exhalation" (or death rattle) when we leave the physical body altogether. The mantra is correctly used as Hong with inhalation and Sau with exhalation. We wrote a longer answer in some of the comments below, you are welcome to browse through them :)

Well, it is just an easy number for everyone :) It can easily be 5, 5, 5, or 7, 7, 7, or 12, 12, 12, or any other number you feel comfortable with. But if 6 is the comfortable amount, then I wouldn't be worried about the meaning of this number in other places, just think of it as three separate sixes instead of one all together.

Hong Sau was previously Ham Sa. And was traditionally So Ham. Can you explain why Yogananda changed the spelling/pronunciation? And why he inverted it?
@AnandaSanghaIndia3 жыл бұрын
This is what Yogananda wrote in his Autobiography of a Yogi when he receive the title of "Paramhansa": Ham-sa (pronounced hong-sau) are two sacred Sanskrit chant words possessing a vibratory connection with the incoming and outgoing breath. Aham-Sa is literally “I am He.” Swami Kriyananda also mentioned that Yogananda even pronounced it a little bit with a Bengali accent... but probably it is not something we have to pay attention to right now. As for the "reversion", it was actually changed afterwards, it was always originally "Hong-Sau". Yogananda explained that "Hong-Sau" is for when one is trying to offer the ego into the infinite whereas "So-Hum" can be said once one has already realized his oneness with Spirit. I say: experiment with both and see what's the result :) If you are interested, here's something Swami Kriyananda wrote: 'In India some years ago I visited Swami Muktananda at his ashram in Ganeshpuri, near Mumbai. He insisted very firmly that the mantra should be “So-hum.” I don’t appreciate people taking issue with my Guru, which Swami Muktananda did. In fact, there is a Hamsa Upanishad. At the Ardha Kumbha Mela in 1960 I also met a saint, 122 years old, whose name was Sri Hansa Maharaj. I met an old Swami in Delhi who was extraordinarily learned in the scriptures (he could quote exactly from well over 100,000 scriptures, citing the exact verse). I asked him about Swami Muktananda’s asseveration. He said, “It should be Hamsa.” “Why then,” I asked, “is he so forceful about insisting it should be “So-hum”? “Some people,” he replied deprecatingly, “are simply ignorant.” The mantra “so-hum” emphasizes the ego. “So-hum” should be repeated only after one has realized the Self. In this case, to say “He is I” can be said with spiritual legitimacy, for then “I” no longer means the ego, but the soul. There's also this video if you want to go further! kzbin.info/www/bejne/g3mtXnyQp9-MppY
