I give mad props to Johnny for turning his life around to Jesus Christ. I grew up in Detroit back in the late 70s - 80s where there weren’t many Asians and even less Koreans for that matter. I remember growing up as a kid and getting in so many fights with Arabs, Blacks and White boys since there were no Asian gangs but God blessed me with athleticism, size and strength (6’6” 250lb by the time I was a sophomore in high school) so I held my own but took my share of beat downs too especially when it was 4 on 1. But I made it through and earned respect since I could hoop and an honorable mention all state football player. Therefore, I was embraced by my Black and White brothers in high school and college. Now I am an old man nearly 50 living in LA. Glad I didn’t grow up in LA as a kid cuz I know for sure I would have been jumped into KK or AB and probably dead or in jail! Jesus Christ saved my life and continues to do so everyday!

I agree with you when you say that it takes a lot to speak out on certain things. im asian and I noticed that in our community, we don't talk about our problems because of the way we were raised. we end up keeping everything to ourselves because our families believe that we are too young to even have real problems so when we grow up, we keep that same energy because that's what we were taught. it's good to finally have people speak out about their trauma. it makes you feel like you're not alone and that your feelings are valid too. we definitely are raised with a lot of tough love and it's good to educate people on that so when we have kids, we don't treat them the same way.

You can talk to the mailman and they will tell you to avoid certain areas of Rosemead, etc. People that aint from the area think its all burbs but when you dive into the trenches of El Monte, La Puente, Baldwin Park, and parts of Montebello they still active. East LA is literally next door to MPK. Gang activities aint like how it once was in the SGV but for sure for sure you aint from LA if you didn't know about gangs.
