Hi everyone! Just a quick note on the application order of chemical (also known as organic) sunscreen filters discussed in the video. Sunscreen formulations on the market today should be applied as the final step of your skincare routine. Apologies for the oversight in this video.

I just finished watching the full video!!! Thank you soo much Susan & Dr. Chiu!! You really opened up my eyes to the ingredients I’ve been using!! I’m ready to change up my skin care routine!! 😄 Also, Dr. Chiu I wish you were closer to me! I’m definitely going to see a dermatologist ASAP! P.S I stopped using the Kylie Skin toner a couple weeks ago! I didn’t like it either!! 😂😂 🤷🏻♀️ Also, thank you to all of the viewers for being so nice in the comments!! As soon as the video went live...I panicked a little because I knew A LOT of people would be seeing me bare faced AND on a bad skin day! Super scary!! But after reading some of the comments... I’m really not the only one battling adult acne & im glad we were all able to learn from Susan & Dr. Chiu. Love you! 💕 Thank you! 💕 Congrats on the baby Susan!! 💕

Conclusion for an acne/hormonal/oily/combination skin: -We all should read the ingredients of products we buy. Switch products on season. Morning and night routines are totally different. Inform ourselves the proper steps for face routines. Super expensive products or legacy products are not necessarily good. Pay attention to acids and use one that targets a problem. Always, always use sunscreens[buy physical or mineral ones]. Eye creams are better for days and makes your makeup to be smooth. If you do use it then buy it with caffeine [Ordinary brand carry one very very good and affordable]. Over using Chapstick can cause acne around lips area, use exclusively night only . Use a toner with exfoliating ingredients, make sure it's one strong enough that does the work. [Try Ordinary or Ren]. Simplified the products and be smart how to layer them. Ordinary 'buffet's seem a good recommend product to add in your routine as a humectant serum. Vitamin C serum is very very important. Jesus 🤯!! Its a lot to learn and personally I think this should be my routine because I have this type of skin with similar problems. I am agree to say that I wasn't doing it correctly, which means is time to buy new products and separate them from day and night, but I will go simple. Thanks

Hi Susan, I have been watching your videos since a long time , and i try to imply as much as I can , but all the products you recommend do not retail in India and if I have to import them they are way too expensive . I have Hormonal acne (on my cheeks and jaws) , which sometimes form a lump/node in my skin, i try to keep my skin clean as much as possible but what should I do ?? I have seen many dermos for the same , but it doesn't get better. Can you recommend some products that retail in India and do have good effect? I follow you soo much and it has made my skin shiner and healthier but acne is my concern. i hope you read this.

I think this is my favorite series from mixed makeup. Giselle asked some questions that I had on my mind for a while now ie the Estée Lauder night repair serum. I low key want to send in my skincare routine now but I’m not too confident being on camera especially with my acne covered face. I had severe cystic acne for years and went to a dermatologist and it improved but it has never gone away. It would be interesting to know if there’s any difference between guys and girl’s skincare routine.

There's a supplement called DIM that helped me with hormonal acne. It takes about a few weeks to.see results though but if you're consistent it works. Also I find that if my stress levels rise for some reason, that will have an affect on my hormones. So pay attention to that as well.

I have not had acne, and I am really not sure what it feels to have cystic acne. But I sometimes get these reaaaaly painful bumps under my skin (it’s similar, right?). When I had my first painful bump, my mom actually massaged it (as funny as that sounds) and no pimple formed (or a normal, not painful version). Since then, every time I get the painful bump, I massage it (quite aggressively, might I add)and they just stop and don’t develop more. I don’t know if this is correct, or if I’m even on the same page, but this helps me and I wanted to share.

I tried curology and it didn’t work for me. I bought dermalogica cleanser and exfoliate and I’m still using it even though I don’t think it’s what that’s helping me but both are gentle and great products and expensive so I’m going to continue using til I run out lol I saw my acne improving late March and finally in May is when I started being more consistent with treating acne scars and it’s helping. I use a lot of products that are recommended on KZbin - the ordinary peel, niacinamide, alpha arbutin, glycolic acid, rose hip oil. Slow progress but grateful. I don’t cry as much anymore 😂 good luck 💖

In this video, Dr. Chiu states that chemical sunscreens must bind to the skin before they become effective. I think she may be incorrect about this. LabMuffin discussed this in one of her "myth busting" videos last year - she modeled chemical sunscreens on paper and displayed how UV light is blocked even though they are not bound to skin. Check Myth #4 in the video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p5usg5awbcxlhs0
@janiceandthomas5 жыл бұрын
@@marta537 The dermatologist was saying that she's not sure if chemical sunscreens are effective when you're layering several products before using the sunscreen because it needs to interact with certain proteins in your skin in order for it to be effective. So she suggests wearing it before moisturizer, especially when it's a somewhat occlusive one like the CeraVe Moisturising Cream. It came as a shock to Susan because ppl tend to advise to use sunscreen after moisturizer.
@AlexK3485 жыл бұрын
I would take that part with a very big grain of salt, I cannot find the source right now, but I have seen people 'debunking' that claim, doingsimple tests like putting the different types of sunscreens on fabric, using uv lights, showing how they all react and protect right away. And also other dermatologists and chemists are clear that all types of sunscreen you should wait at least 20 minutes for them to set in, and you see physical sunscreen bottles with that same recommendation/warning. And that's because it is more about them creating an even layer of protection, drying down well and staying where you put them, instead of going off easily with any sweat, rubbing and so on.

I really enjoy this series. My only comment is to request when suggesting a new skincare routine to not just recommend products that she already owns, but also other products for other people with similar problems. For example, dont just stick with current vitamin c cream, but suggest to all the other folks with hyperpigmentation other recommended products. I had a lot of acne scars, and Timeless Vit C Serum with vit E and ferrulic acid has completely changed my skin. I get that they are trying to save her money, but just reading comments it sounds like a lot of people have Gisselle's skin type and would benefit from just a new product recommendation. I want to know what Dr Chiu's favorite vit C serum is. Very impressed with the young lady who put herself out there and turned in this video. I cant imagine how brave you would have to be! But I learned so much from this video!! Thank you Gisselle!

Same here. I think what the skin care experts are not telling us is that it has to do with our diet and lifestyle factors. That's not their area of expertise so they can't advise on that. But I get hormonal acne breakouts after I eat certain foods. Like those containing gluten and soy. But those are my worst offenders.

I haven't used chemical sunscreens for years so I was fine with that comment. 😂 Once I learned that it absorbs the UV rays and begins to break down as soon as you put it on your skin I didn't see the point of it. I noticed very early on with my children that if we used physical sunscreen their skin was fine all day with one reapplication, but they burned every time we used chemical sunscreens.
@leilanidru75065 жыл бұрын
I haven’t gotten to the part of the video where she addresses his but from the research I’ve read The chemical filter avobenzone does degrade when exposed to sunlight which is why there other actives in there to stabilize it and make it last approx advertised time. Sunscreen is regulated as a drug so they wouldn’t put outlandish claims on it. Also, most people can’t wear physical spf’s because they are simply unwearable if ur anything darker than milk and don’t wanna spend 20 straight mins rubbing into ur skin for each application and reapplication and don’t wanna pay and arm and a leg for invisible physical sunscreens with advanced formulas that make it not have a white cast. So for a lot of us, it’s simply the only option.
@leilanidru75065 жыл бұрын
Ok just actually got to the part in the video. Her issue was with layering that isn’t a concensus among all dermatologists and admits they’re no studies. Not that chemical sunscreens don’t work or are lesser. They work just as well just put them as close to ur skin as possible. I don’t wear makeup and use my sunscreen in place of moisturizer so I’m really not getting the chemical sunscreen panic in the comments😂😂🤷🏾♀️ What we should all be worried about is what the chemical actives are doing in our bloodstream and to our bodies over time because nobody knows and their effects are inconclusive😬😬 not about layering to get the advertised spf. It’s not that big a deal.

What are your thoughts on DIM supplements for hormonal acne? I take Estroblock Pro supplememt and it completely got rid of my hormonal acne. My Dermatologist wanted me to take Spironolactone and I'm thankful I tried this supplement 1st and never had to take a RX.

I had horrible hormonal acne when I was pregnant and after I gave birth. I found very recently that less is more for my face. I am looking to add maybe one more serum and a chemical exfoliant but by not using a lot of products my skin is changing for the better. Dr. Chiu is right you want products that do the job and that’s exactly what I needed!

I have oily skin and am dealing with some hormonal acne (I'm 18). My current acne treatment product is Differin, and I use a 10% benzoyl peroxide cream to spot treat. Dr. Chiu mentioned something about tachyphylaxis and recommended taking periodic breaks when using products like these. However, I'm worried that if I stop using the Differin for a week/month, my acne will get worse. What would you recommend I do?
@aalexttostado5 жыл бұрын
continue using differn, if it gives you viewer skin don’t stop

My understanding was that she was referring to hydroquinone. I've always heard that you can use a retinoid every day without breaks.

Adding, I shared this video with my beauty group and someone from there commented that she was a bit turned off by the thumbnail because it looked like Susan and Dr. Chiu were disgusted by Giselle’s acne. I didn’t feel that because I knew the topic was about the routine and that Susan’s attitude is always positive and encouraging. Just sharing what a non-subscriber felt about it.
@sailorgrlie5 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I'm a little shocked at how much money these skin care routines have cost. So many steps, and most of them high end. If you can afford all of these products, you can afford a trip to a dermatologist.
@TheCatsMe00w5 жыл бұрын
But that doesnt include medications the derm may prescribed. One of mine, if I didnt getting it a specificly through mail (which comes with it's own issues cause I have yet to receive it and I got prescribed in june) was 300 dollars with insurance. Rx can get more pricey than middle class skin care.
@rafaeltlv17955 жыл бұрын
I agree she used way too many product. A person who has a skin condition or any skin problems should limit the number of cosmetics. I am surprised that a doctor almost encourages this over consumption of cosmetics which are probably detrimental for her skin.

I wish dermatologist would comment on checking diet for inflammatory foods before they start talking points on products used. Using the products is great but I don’t think it’s the full picture.
@e.starling1415 жыл бұрын
That's so true. I discovered that for myself recently. I was breaking out on my forehead a bunch and i dont normally break out all. I had been trying some skin care samples and thought that maybe one of those were the issue, but the acne remained even after i stopped using them. I finally googled forehead acne and found an article that said dairy cam be a cause. And sure enough i had been on a rare ice cream kick for the 2 wks prior. I stopped eating it and my forehead immediately cleared up. I would have never considered my diet being the culprit before this. Its crazy what a difference it can make.
@elainemayorga5 жыл бұрын
E. Garceau ahh! Thank you for sharing, reading that reminded me of my situation! When I was much younger I asked my derm if my diet could be affecting my acne and she said it’s not proven so no but be careful! And you know in the US they brand milk as a growth staple, so I continued to consume it! It’s not until I cut it out completely that I saw a difference in my skin! I’m so glad I did and wish more people would talk about changing your diet to get better skin. I find pescatarians / Mediterranean ppl have great skin cause they eat a diet rich in omega fatty acids :-) nutrition when it comes to skin is so interesting

E. Garceau Same thing for me! When I notice a “larger” break out on my forhead I can always look back on the last two weeks and find out that I had a bunch of dairy products

I have struggled off and on with severe hormonal acne for several years (since I was about 19, I'm now 23) and watching your videos has helped my skin so much! I have been seeing a Derm for years, but honestly working out which products are best for my skin has helped me manage breakouts and re-texturize my skin! If you have adult hormonal acne I suggest getting blood tests to check your hormones. I have high testosterone and it is the major source of my acne problems, after being on spironolactone for several months and figuring out my dosage I very rarely deal with hormonal breakouts I also use rx skin products like Epiduo and aczone but, I don't think you necessarily need those as long as you are treating your hormone imbalance!

My input in this is, I think she's using too much product. I don't know, just my opinion though. I always go for like less is more kinda thing. Edit: also congrats susan!!
@mustafafh44025 жыл бұрын
Aiviva too too too much, i would suggest her to stick to the basics, all her skin products should be moisturizing and hydrating, and only a serum treatment with active ingredients, +AHA exfoliation 2-3 a week, and SPF! And patience, other than that she’s over doing skincare with alot of active ingredients and thats dumb, could make her skin worse

Purito comfy water sunblock is an amazing physical sunscreen. It’s better than the elta MD UV clear in my opinion. If you have an oily skin type it works great because it doesn’t leave that shine like the elta MD one does and it’s a lot cheaper!

Thank you for addressing this weird time for your skin, when you´re in your mid-twenties! I´m 25, still having breakouts (I have "big" pores and oily prone skin that loves to get small pimples) but I´m also noticing first signs of wrinkles and aging (I have those little wrinkles around my eyes, we call "Krähenfüße" (crows-feet) in Germany). I always thought that when puberty ends, my skin won´t be this oily and breakout-prone anymore, sigh. It is a constant battle!
